Billy Bunter
I don't visit here much anymore, but felt compelled to pass on some sad news that I just found out about a well-respected member of this board. http://www.sthelensstar.co.uk/news/11830569.Inquest_opened_following_death_at_Carr_Mill_Dam/ I didn't know Ray personally, but know he put a lot of effort into the promotion of the RL cause. Apologies if this isn't the place to write this (feel free to delete/amend Mods), but thought most would want to hear, however shocking the news. Futtocks
Gent was well-named, because that's exactly what he was. I never met him, but he was always one of the good guys on this forum, and his campaigning work should not be forgotten. This is a tragedy. JohnM
How many Ray Gents are there anywhere, let alone from that particular part of the country? Exactly. Just stunned I suppose. I met Ray a couple of times, one when he was collecting petition signatures at the JJB as it was then. Ray was helped me when he was a Financial Advisor. I helped sub-edit and proof read a couple of his several books, too. Just shocked.

tim2
I contributed to his "Football in its own words" book. Always a nice guy on the forum, loved the game of rugby league over and above club loyalties and was never confrontational. "I am the avenging angel; I come with wings unfurled, I come with claws extended from halfway round the world. I am the God Almighty, I am the howling wind. I care not for your family; I care not for your kin. I come in search of terror, though terror is my own; I come in search of vengeance for crimes and crimes unknown. I care not for your children, I care not for your wives, I care not for your country, I care not for your lives." - (c) Jim Boyes - "The Avenging Angel"
nadera78
I wasn't expecting that when I clicked on here! When I published my book a few months back Ray was very helpful, very enthusiastic, and full of advice. It was kind of him and much appreciated. Griff9of13
Such sad news. Like others I find it hard to believe. RIP Ray. Stan Doffarf
That's shocking news. Ray was an enthusiastic writer and promoter of Rugby League, as well as a thoroughly nice guy. He'll be badly missed. And when they found our shadows Grouped around the TV sets They ran down every lead They repeated every test They checked out all the data on their lists And then the alien anthropologists Admitted they were still perplexed But on eliminating every other reason For our sad demise They logged the only explanation left This species has amused itself to death No tears to cry no feelings left This species has amused itself to death

Futtocks
Absolutely terrible news. Gutted to hear about this. It sounds a bit phoney but as one of the longer lasting posters on here, you kind of felt you knew him. Condolences to his family. Not phoney at all; it is like losing a semi-distant but loved family member. I don't even know what he looked like, but I felt I knew him more than a bit from the years of good-natured correspondence on TRL. JohnM
Ray put a huge amount of effort into a petition about the games treatment. I am sure there are those on here who remember this, and maybe joined in with Ray in working the grounds to get signatures.
