Dear CKN,

We would like to thank you for your high standard of performance in the interview for Transformation Director with (large company).  Unfortunately, although you are an outstanding candidate we do not believe you would fit in with the culture of our senior management team and will not be offering you the role.

We would however like to offer you a role as a Project Manager working with (2nd tier manager, not a director) on a Fixed Term Contract at (rate less than 1/2 of the rate of the role I applied for) creating our new service from our Glasgow office.

As we're confident you will accept this offer to work with us on our world-leading transformation programme, we will send you the offer of employment by separate email and by post.

Kind regards.

(Junior HR administrator)

In essence, they want me to do the same job, but two tiers down for half the pay and in Glasgow rather than London simply because I don't fit in with the "culture" of the senior management team.

As you may imagine, I'm less than impressed with this.  Almost DUP Lodge at Irish border news levels of red mist.

I will follow my rule though and not reply until tomorrow.  I draft angry letters while heated and leave them as draft until the next day to see if I've cooled down and can edit it down into less angry.

This is going to be a bit of a political rant with a bit of swearing, so heads up.

Why do we keep giving racists things, or let them take away things from us? If I wear red laces in my boots, I have to explain to people that it has NOTHING to do with racism, it is just the colour of my laces

Shaved head? Still nothing to do with racism.
Fred Perry gold and black polo shirts are the new thing racists are claiming, and I know of so many people who are giving up on that style, and even the brand. Fred Perry has come out against hate time after time, but it doesn't seem to matter.

****racism, ****hate, ****letting racists take things from other people making it theirs. Things that belong to different cultures, different subcultures, different styles, religions and fashions are not theirs to twist and ruin.

I have a pair of Lonsdale slip-on shoes with a reinforced front sole grip that are great for outdoor martial arts practice.  I occasionally wear them in summer when out in shorts as well.  I was told they were racist and I was supporting racist causes.  Nothing to do with the brand or corporate stance, simply the NSDA part of the name.

I still wear them and let the slack-jawed get confused over it.

I was called a racist on the train the other day, it was a bit of a clench buttock time because there about a dozen of them. They shut up when the only black guy in the carriage told them that real skinheads aren’t racists.

I just get sick of explaining sometimes

I get this problem all the time. People that know me know that I am not racist. In fact I hold no malice with anyone, except the small minded idiots that accuse me of being a racist. If I happen to go to places that people may not know me I find a shirt like this usually helps.

Everything is racist, everything is sexist, everything is homophobic, and you have to point it all out– Anita Sarkeesian

Apologies to Anita for the deceptive quote-mining.

Social media are cutting their own throats. With their willingness to ban anything and everything, Twitter banned the New York Times World account for "hate speech" after it tweeted a story about Justin Trudeau apologising to the indigenous people of Labrador and Newfoundland. Here was the entire text of the Tweet:

Quote

"Left out of an apology a decade ago, native people in Newfoundland and Labrador get an apology from Justin Trudeau http://nyti.ms/2zAoGd6

Twitter's new policy on banning accounts will come into effect on 18 December when they will start banning people based on any and all activity, whether on Twitter or not.

In OZ we are currently enduring a tour by Milo Yiannopoulos and I cannot believe the amount of free publicity he has been given by the outrage industrial complex. Ignore him, let him speak and then he'll be gone in a week. Stop feeding the trolls!

I've been a Greens voter for quite a while but I don't think I can do it again after the Greens National Leader, Senator Richard di Natale, sent a letter to another Senator condemning his invitation to Milo to speak in a meeting room at Parliament House and calling for Milo to be banned. How can I vote for a party whose leader is such a tactical genius that he generates publicity for trolls and paints himself as an opponent of free speech in doing so?

I watched a bit of a video of the Spiked Free Speech Tour at Rutgers University where one speaker asked the audience the very same questions I've been asking:
"How many of you have watched, heard or read Alt-Right or White Supremacist material?" About 20 people
"How many of you have converted to Alt-Right?" Nobody

And, further to my first point in that last post, Facebook has finally woken up that, if you ban people for hate speech towards any race or gender, men are a gender and white people are a "race" so blanket condemnation of white men is "hate speech" and is now a bannable offence.

Twitters current policies are very hit and miss.  Cernovich is still on there despite rape threats, doxing and the whole pizzagate thing.  Britain First still have a blue tick, etc.

With the best, thats a good bit of PR, though I would say the Bedford team, theres, like, you know, 13 blokes who can get together at the weekend to have a game together, which doesnt point to expansion of the game. Point, yeah go on!

Singtel. F*&cking Singtel.

To cancel my TV subscription (i only subscribed to watch Setanta which they replaced with a channel dedicated to people playing Playstation) i have to take my set up box and remote to a dedicated store... of which there are only 3.

It'll be a 30 min cab, a 4 hour queue and i'll end up shouting at someone.

Sunday is ruined

I got an email from Garlik this morning, they're an Experian subsidiary who will monitor your details free of charge.  My email address has been compromised somewhere but they can't tell exactly which site was compromised.  That means I have to change every password linked to that email address.

Thankfully I use a password manager with a one-time very complex password securing it and very secure random password generation tool.  That password was the first to get changed, then my email password, now I'm going through the 87 other sites that use that email as a username and changing those passwords.  Yay for that fun.

The current hero among certain sections of the internet - Skeptic™Community©, the radical centrists, the Alt-Centrists - is Lindsay Shepherd, the teaching assistant at Wilfred Laurier University in Ontario, who was called before a Party disciplinary committee and denounced for problematic positionality (presumably an insidious form of right deviationism.) Rather than accepting banishment to some maple syrup collective in Saskatchewan for a period of reflection and self-criticism, Shepherd recorded the trial and released it on the internet.

In the last month, Shepherd has appeared on all the big internet shows, the Rubin Report, some other one, the other one with that guy, and the Rubin Report. I'm not sure how she got to Dave Rubin's place in California. I guess she must have swum across the river to escape from the People's Soviet Socialist Republic of Ontario. Will she be granted political asylum in USA? Or will she be sent back, presumably straight to Room 101, where the political commissars of her university will attempt to deconstruct her troublesome situationality and rehabilitate her back into a correct mode of thinking?

Can she be salvaged? Or is her crime, showing a 5-minute clip from a TV Ontario current affairs show, so heinous that she will need to be executed, if only to spare her family the continuing humiliation of producing such a deviant? In fairness to her parents, they have already appeared on national TV and denounced themselves for their child-rearing failures. Both parents read and confessed to long lists of crimes against the State, including bourgeois deviationism, backsliding and revisionist thought. They currently await sentencing.

I have two new rants...  they've bothered me for years but not enough that I want to rant about them before:

Driving back today from Scotland, from the A68 it was dual carriageways and motorways the entire journey back to sunny Suffolk so it was spent with cruise control on at 70mph to make the journey as comfortable as possible.  Now, the rant part: people who drive at 65mph then when you go to overtake them at your 70mph they accelerate when your front wheel is in line with their rear wheel so they match your speed.  You then look like a right idiot blocking the road and not overtaking.

Sometimes they accelerate to about 71-72mph and I then pull back behind them, they then immediately decelerate to 65mph and the thing starts again.

Sometimes I accelerate to 73-75mph to get past them, most of the time they'll match it.  One matched me speed increase after speed increase today until I deliberately boxed him in behind a HGV so he couldn't get out and I got past him.

I've no issue with people doing 65mph, after all 70mph is a limit, not a target.  Just bloody well keep your speed consistent so people can get past you on dual carriageways.

Those people were only second today to the 40mph drivers on the A68 from Edinburgh to Darlington.  40mph in 60mph single carriageway roads then 40mph in 30mph villages, never changing their speed regardless of where they are, the road or safety issues.  I'm sure they drive into their driveways at 40mph before emergency braking before they hit their house.

From largely being irresponsible to generally in panic mode is a short route when free speech means "I can say anything and it doesn't matter cos no one checks!"

People who can't work out how to use the "Block" or "Ignore" functions should stay off social media until they learn how. People also need to stop defining "hate speech" as "when someone disagrees with me on the internet." As for the tiny proportion of truly hateful trolls, report them. Simples.

Also, remember when your parents told you that you were a really, really, special little princess and you were really, really smart everybody loves you and thinks you're really, really pretty? They were wrong, so harden the #### up!

I don' believemy sister to be a racist.

I don't believe John O'Connor, Bowes et al to be a racists.

There are friends and colleagues who voted leave I don't believe are racist.

But I also know brexit was the only viable option for so many bigoted souls that exist in this country..... particularly right here in Rovrum

Perhaps they were using 'cruise control'?

Never.

Good.

I require flexible working to enable us to look after Little and Tiny Ginger and allow my wife to work as well. I've had one interview two weeks ago where we basically at the discussing terms stage and it then turned out that the consultant had, in fact, outright lied to the charity about that - and there's no workaround when it's a nearly three-hour drive each way.

And today it has become increasingly clear that a different agency haven't even spoken to the charity they're working for, let alone discuss any details with them. How do I know? Because, *another agency*, has just pinged me the details after several weeks of fluff from the original one.

For starters. There is more.

Build a man a fire, and he'll be warm for a day. Set a man on fire, and he'll be warm for the rest of his life. (Terry Pratchett)
