Ernie Moss, footballer and local Chesterfield hero, aged 71.

Spent much of the last few years suffering from Pick's Disease. His family have been pushing for more research and help around the effect of heading the ball on players, who seem to have a higher than average incidence of dementia.

Derbyshire and England cricketer Mike Hendrick, 72. I saw him bowl once on a grey morning at Chesterfield with a wicket like a Cornish Yarg cheese. I don't think the batsmen hit a single one of his first 24 balls. The first one who did edged it to Bob Taylor.

Very sad , I enjoyed watching him bowl as a kid . Nice action and very accurate . He induced so  many plays and misses

Sounding very Jim Lakeresque there, Tim mate.

I remember watching the 1979 World Cup Final from Lords. Hendrick was bowling to Viv Richards who was in fantastic form. Richards belted one delivery straight back at Hendrick who might have been able to pull off a sensational caught and bowled if he'd made the effort.

But instead, he ducked.

No criticism from the commentator who suggested it had been a wise move.
