I don't think it was far off when you do the maths although I'd have estimated around 6k. North Stand was about 90% (with Fev fans adding a coupe of 100) and I'd say South was more like 60%.

Sadly, I think it's a reflection of how crowds have actually been announced prior to today. I can certainly understand the bafflement because both north and south were significantly fuller than games with similar announced figures. I've sat in the south and seen the north stand significantly more sparse than today but with announced figures around the same level.

Apparently it’s fairly common to include season ticket holders in crowd figures even if they don’t turn up. So there might be 500 more people in a 5,000 crowd one week than in a 5,000 crowd another week. Maybe everybody just turned up today!

It’s probably more likely that Widnes sold fewer season tickets this season and therefore non-attending season tickets now represent a smaller percentage of the overall sales.

Halifax 18-16 Swinton FT

Sounds like another creditable performance from the Lions in the Championship as they led the game for long periods.

Bring on Leigh next week at Heywood Rd!

Halifax continuing with the same form that saw us get stuff at both Widnes and Fev and scrape home against an average Leigh team and a poor Batley team. It was a really strange game obviously you want to win every game but when it looked like the game was lost its always in the back of your mind thinking thankfully its one game closer to Marshall leaving the club.

Admission was a shambles.  I spent 15 minutes queueing for a ticket that I didn't need thanks to incorrect directions from a steward. Missed the first 5 minutes, I wish I missed the first 40 minutes, we won the second half!  Widnes played very smart football, Fev not at the races until half time.

Admission's always been daft at that stadium, having to queue up at window at the south-east part of the stadium to buy a ticket which is more often than not for the other side of the stadium, they dont like to make things simple

Annoying thing was I didn't need a ticket for the East stand.  I only found that out when I got to the window. I asked for directions to the East Stand and she said "well you know the bowling club?  It's through there"  How the hell would I know the bowling club?  What a shambles.  Not surprised they're in trouble if that's how their administration works.  I know we're only Fev fans from an inferior non SL side but I'd have though our money was as good as the next man's to a club in trouble.  Reminds me of the attitude years ago at Wilderspool when, as Fev took the field, the PA announcer said "lets' all boo Featherstone!"

"You know the Bowling Club?" ?

I wouldn't take it personally mate, it would have been exactly the same if we'd played Saints.  And your travelling support was appreciated by the widnes fans even if a daft steward made it look otherwise

Here's hoping the new regime will make things a bit simpler for away (and home!) fans on matchday

Are you serious? If you think Marshall leaving is the answer you seriously have no idea.

This would be the same Marshall who’s had us in the top five for the last three seasons? Who would you replace him with?

Not a surprise few posters take you seriously. I would love to see your choice of Coach over the successful Marshall. Fax playing poorly but still 5th and winning. What is your problem?

An astonishing comment.

To be fair to Oxy, Halifax do play an astonishingly boring and niggly kind of Rugby.

It's worked reasonably well for them recently in terms of results, but their crowds are flatlining at best. They seem to be unable to build on the success they've had and their recruitment this year smacks of a club trying to be mediocre.

Personally (as a Fev fan), I think Marshall and the BOD are doing a great job.  Long may it continue ?

I always used to say you don't need basketball scores to have a great game of Rugby League. One of the best games I ever saw ended  Hornets 5- Dewsbury 3.

An even closer and exciting one was Dewsbury 1 York 0 back in around 1977 or thereabouts- and a non existent drop goal from Nigel Stephenson (as he later confessed) to win what was an exciting game (well at least for this 16 yr old!)

This was a midweek game at the old Athletic Grounds. Hornets had been involved in a real battle at the weekend and only 2 of that team were fit enough to play. So it was the " A" team plus 2 against a very good Dewsbury team. The one with Mick and Nigel Stephenson and Harry Beverley etc. The lads tackled themselves to a standstill and just about won a cracker of a game.

Come the next Sunday the " First Teamers " we're back in for the visit of Widnes and the lads who'd played out of their skins against Dewsbury were dropped.  Widnes won about 32-0.

The ladies who for many years have sold tickets etc. were fired last week, club shop and staff also gone before administration. They weren't able to sort out the use of card machines in time either,  no access to online ticket sales and from what I hear, James Rule has not been forthcoming with information.

There were queues for much of Saturday to get tickets. It's a wonder it wasn't more of a shambles than it was. I thought we were going to have a delayed kick-off with the number of people waiting outside at 3pm. Away fans were in the South Stand for previous games.

I make it 17 of 23 remaining players in the Widnes squad came through the academy. Definitely need to get some loan signings because that is not enough players to last out the season.

As a Batley fan I thought Dewsbury were extremely unlucky.

When there is a deciding "try" so late I think that the referee has to be very sure before giving it.

There's no doubt Dewsbury played very well but the only try they scored was never a try in a million years, never grounded the ball.

I've not seen a slow motion of the try but if he didn't ground it, it was a penalty try as the TWP clearly tried to obstruct and weren't going for the ball. I was at the game and thought he'd given a penalty try. Toronto's 2nd try involved taking out one of our defenders Robbie Ward. Had that gone to a video ref think it would have been disallowed.

,It's a scrum and has been for as long as I remember.

So, on the last tackle,  just kick the ball at the ref....if it comes off, scrum and another set?

Don't actually know the rule, but it should be either play on, or return the ball on whatever tackle they're on. IMO.

edit. This is regarding the ball in contact with the referee in open play.

I just watched a replay. there was no obstruction, an attempt by McCrone by kicking the ball out of the field of play if so.

Think we followed that up with a 3-0 won over Rochdale????

Similarly, Dewsbury beat HKR 3-2 one soggy, rainy Thursday evening. David Watkinson was our captain and we played most of the game one player shirt as one was sent off.

Legs, Dews, Legs.

I looked again and the Dewsbury player is definitely bodychecked by a defender of "The Canadian Franchise team" as the report I read referred to them ☺

Which one?

The Toronto Number 1, I don't know the names.

Despite my comments I have enjoyed watching the Toronto games.

Next game is against my team Batley, but we have not started very well unfortunately.
