Oliver Gildart 3 year deal at Hull KR from 2024.

Over thirty years since they last appeared on the big screen together, Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins have been offered starring roles in a film based on events at Wembley Stadium on Saturday 12th August 2023. It is hoped that "Silenced by the Lams" will be a box office success.

Pretty good move for all parties.

Despite being noticeably smaller than most backs in the NRL I don't think he did too badly when he had a chance.  But he isn't going to get a new gig so 3 years with a quality team like HKR suits them both well.

I think he'll suit HKR and vice versa.

No.

I think it was a sensible signing for the Dolphins as they needed to build a top 30 squad from scratch and he is a capable enough backup.  But barring injury, I don't think he will see much NRL action this year.

In the squad this weekend after Origin, but otherwise no. No shame in him trying to challenge himself to step up, if you don’t miss a target you’re not trying hard enough. Gotta respect that in a bloke. Hopefully he can get decent Super League form with Rovers.

Apparently this site says I "won the day" here on 23rd Jan, 19th Jan, 9th Jan also 13th December, whatever any of that means. Anyway, 4 times in a few weeks? The forum must be going to the dogs - you people need to seriously up your game. Where's Dutoni when you need him?

Pity things didn't go his way in the NRL, but think HKR have picked up a pretty decent signing.

Good signing for Rovers and seems like a good move for the player too. Sometimes careers can go off track a little and it doesn't take long for players to be written off but it's worth saying that for most of his time at Wigan he was a really good player. From 2016 to 2019 he played really well, was always in double figures for tries scored and was part of one of the best left edge partnerships around. Defensively he was pretty solid and his attacking play was outstanding.

Unfortunately 2020 was affected by his dislocated shoulder and he came back into the team for the last 9 games and 2021 was his first really bad season and he just seemed to have constant injury issues and poor form when he did play.

It wasn't the ideal time for him to go to the NRL given his poor form. You want to go out there on top of your game rather than at a time when he really seemed to be lacking confidence.

Hopefully at Rovers he can get the regular games he needs and get back to his best. He'll only be 27 at the start of next season so he's still in his prime years.

Completely fell away in his last couple of years at Wigan to the point where an NRL move was borderline bizarre, really. There was a period where he was one of the better centres in the competition here, so if KR can get him to recapture that form he could be a good signing.

If he's fully fit, he's the kind of speedy, agile player HKR can use better than most sides.

The ambition and intent of Hull KR is there for all to see.

Yes we have now got the most successful businessmen in the area on board and they have substantially improved the financial situation at the club and that's very significant. But also they have the declared intention of using their proven business acumen to make Rovers the best run club in Super League.

The marquee signing of Peta Hiku, the big money bid for Dupree and now the capture of Gildart are no more than what you can expect from now on.

The acquisition of the stadium and surrounding land has been a real game changer. Adam Pearson himself is on record as saying 'I can only envy Hull KR'.

The thing is that Rovers are building something to last. Whether these latest signings do or don't come off won't seem important in the years to come. The future is Hull Kingston Rovers.

He hasn’t had a good season for 4 years, with the suspicion that he was phoning it in after he got his NRL gig. But before then he was good. It’s a risk, but one that could come off.

I'm a rovers fan and even I reckon you should reign it in a little, we've done nothing yet so think you need to chill out a bit.

I'm a Rovers fan and I am torn on this.

He hasn't done anything recently that makes me think he is that exciting of a signing. However, we signed Ryan Hall after a 'failed' excursion to the NRL and he has been amazing for us. If we can get similar level of performances from Gildart, then I would be extremely happy.

Ryan Hall was a considerably less risky buy for HKR. He's been one of the top wingers in SL for a long time and preformed well at international level as well. Unfortunately for him his move to the NRL coincided with a bad injury so he never really got going over there. I think if he'd stuck it out for a few more years he would have been a success over there.

Gildart is slightly different. He had a few good years for Wigan but I wouldn't put him in anywhere near the same class as Hall. He got injured and his form really dropped off for Wigan before he went to the NRL and he's suffered from injury and poor form ever since. Even when he's had his chance in the first team he's failed to impress in the NRL. I'm sure he knew when he signed for the Dolphins he wasn't going to be automatic first choice but when a donkey like Brenko Lee is getting picked ahead of you each week you know your time is up at that club. Even when Lee has been missing Gildart still hasn't had a look in.

A move back to SL is probably the best thing for Gildart now, but it remains to be seen whether he will ever recapture some of the good form he had a few years ago.

There are some comparisons - Hall did get injured so was never 1st choice but even a top player like him couldn't score if his teammates didn't pass to him - even the Aussie press picked up on that fact near the end of his 2nd season when they asked a few Roosters players over a few games why they don't pass to Hall.

Gildart couldn't show if he was a top player if he couldn't get on the pitch. There are worse players than him getting games in the NRL but we will never know if he could have made it - think he will go well at KR though.

It was never going to work out for him in the NRL, I dont know a single Wigan fan who thought otherwise. Not big enough or skilful enough for the NRL. He will probably do okay for Hull KR but I suspect he regrets ever leaving Wigan in the first place. Fair play to him for backing himself and giving it a crack, if you don't try you'll never know.
