The Fall - Xmas With Simon

Do not fret, rest your head, jesus had no fear
Do not fret, rest your head, xmas time is here

Castle in the snow, southern white sign
No explanation for the lights
Empires were tumbling, pity the people in the desert
Jesus did
Pity the people who had too much dessert

Jesus
Big old nice old house
It's christmas
In old english village
Jesus
It's that time again
It's christmas
And those films again

Born in a barn
Surrounded by animals
No set amount to the number of diseases
Died at the age of 33
Which is as good a time as any
White outside
Bowl of light glows
Slow march of the humble
Wrong shall fail and the right prevail

Jesus
Big old nice old house
It's Christmas
In old English village
Jesus
It's that time again
It's Christmas
And those films again

Do not fret, rest your head, Jesus had no fear
Do not fret, save your breath, Xmas time is here

Jesus
Big old nice old house
In old English village
With candles in it
It's Christmas
It's that time again
And those films again
Jesus
It's Christmas
House of gold
Castle in the snow
Jesus
It's Christmas
Jesus
It's Christmas

Iceland enters the chat

I know what "it's snowing" is in Icelandic so I'm guessing that song is Snow is Falling.

Is it a Shakey cover?

Indeed it is. "Snowflakes falling" is the title. Bit of googling:

Snjókorn falla á allt og alla
Börnin leika og skemmta sér
Nú ert árstíð kærleika og friðar
Komið er að jólastund.
Vinir hittast og halda veislur
Borða saman jólamat
Gefa gjafir - fagna sigri ljóssins
Syngja saman jólalag.
Á jólaball við höldum í kvöld
ég ætl'a' kyssa þig undir mistilteini í kvöld
Við kertaljóssins log.
Plötur hljóma - söngvar óma
Gömlu lögin syngjum hátt
Bar' ef jólin væru aðeins lengri
En hve gaman væri þá.
En hve gaman væri þá,
En hve gaman væri þá

Translates back (via google) to:

Snowflakes fall on everything and everyone
The children play and have fun
Now is the season of love and peace
It's Christmas time.
Friends meet and have parties
Eat Christmas dinner together
Giving gifts - celebrating the victory of light
Sing a Christmas carol together.
We're having a Christmas party tonight
I'm going to kiss you under the mistletoe tonight
By the candlelight flame.
Albums resonate - songs resonate
The old songs we sing loud
If only Christmas were a little longer
But how fun it would be.
But how fun it would be,
But how fun it would be

Might as well put this up as i do every xmas  .  East 17`s Stay is not a xmas record .O.k. it was no.1 at xmas but the lyrics (irritating and repetitive as they are ) have sod all to do with xmas . Just wearing furry white jackets in front of a snowy back drop is fooling nobody  . Just stop playing it please .

there was a folkish song Terry Wogan used to play on his breakfast show on radio2- never heard anyone else play it - am sure Jesus was mentioned in it but not a clue of the artist or title- is there anyone out there with a big nose who knows?

It's about the suicide of the brother of the songwriter.

Another track that gets a lot of festive airtime, but isn't actually a Christmas song. It was used in a movie that took place around Christmas, though.

And it does make you wonder why Freiheit never had another breakout hit, if this was what they were capable of.

From memory, the 'Christmas' version has some bells and stuff added, and they do the furry hoods in the video ... but it was a re-release? Original run had no bells and just them looking East 17-y?

I am now going to check whether my memory is right and not correct this post in any way based on what I find.

EDIT

I was partially right. There are two videos but not two versions. It was not released to be a Christmas song but became one as it hung around in the charts and then part of an old fashioned Xmas basttle.
