Yeah I take your point but i'd be more worried if we were the last game. I think we're more likely to see an exodus before the end of Panthers v Sharks...although I guess Vegas never sleeps

My personal opinion is that 4 games is a bit too much but if anywhere can pull off the all day party vibe, it's Las Vegas. I've never been in the stadium but driven past it and that was impressive enough!

Now it's nearly here I truly wish I had gone but personal events were against it happening. If it's on next year - I'm there.

Just a quick heads up for anyone after a cheap drink. Try the Stage Door 'casino' (it's not really), which is just off the strip near the Bellagio and Flamingo and has bottles of Bud for $1 (no catch) and the best hot dogs in Vegas for something like $2.50. A few other cheap drinks too. Its slightly rough and ready but shouldn't bother any hardy northerners.

I assume they pay you $1 to drink Bud 😜

Not my favourite drink by any means mate, but when you can pay like $15 round the corner, something cheap and cheerful is sometimes required.

Can you or somebody you know post this on the bigfooty forum. I would, but I got banned from there about 5 years ago.

They do struggle with facts that don't suit their agenda and one poster was told he risked a ban from the site for quoting facts for that reason.

This is what's interesting about other versions of RL, including LDRL, PDRL, Wheelchair, women's etc. There are new stories to be told, new angles to be selling RL on. It's all good.

I agree with this.

A key point I want to make, however, is that the international women's game gets us on the BBC home page in a way that SL hardly ever does. We ought to be pushing at this open door.

Does anybody know how the broadcast/prodcution is working for this btw? Obviously Fox are out there for the NRL - are they doing the SL game too? I can't imagine Sky have will have any part in that - obvs I know it's airing on Sky and will most likely have Sky commentators/pundits.

That's what I'd assumed.

I imagine they'll use the same field markings for all matches as well - This will mean that each "10m" line will be at 9.45m distances rather than how we do it in the UK with everything at 10m distances except the 30m lines on shorter fields.

England Women arrive in Vegas. Original reel on FB was longer, accompanied by the obvious Elvis tune - must have been lost to copyright restrictions.....

So I've been wondering exactly what is meant by 'smaller field' - last weekend the trial games that involved teams going to Vegas apparently matched the pitch dimensions to the Allegiant field. My understanding was that the issue was width, not length? But from what you're saying that's around 2.75m short each half and yeah, if it was in the UK would be played with a short '10' at the 30. Thanks for that - as a pitch markings/dimensions nerd, it had been niggling at me what smaller actually meant 👍

The playing area is 94.5m x 63.1m

Yes, for some reason the Aussies prefer to make every measurement wrong rather than shortern the one area that isn't important. The distance between the 30m and 40m line serves no purpose in the rule book, whereas every other line does.

You'd have to imagine that in practice they replace every reference to 10m with 9.45m :

18.9m restarts

PTB on 9.45m if held up in goal

Ball must travel 9.45m at a restart

Assuming refs use the field markings to judge 10m for off-side, potentially even 9.45m off-sides.

But surely for Rugby League fans "They're ALL offside Referee!" 😄

Yeah I think the only thing that will still actually be 10m is how far back the ref takes the defensive line, although that in it's self is obviously by no means accurate.

I think it feels like we are part of it as an equal partner rather than just riding the coat tails. Credit to the NRL for it being like that, and frankly they'd be undermining their own event anyway treating us any differently.

However I think I said on another thread that the NRL wanted the English clubs for their fans and because they added something. Let's not forget there was fair bit of criticism around Vegas last year and clubs not wanting to go too. This has been mutually beneficial and what the 2 leagues co-operating should be all about.

Everything I have seen so far has been great.

I think the English fans are what will really give us a seat at the table for the foreseeable if we want it. I've seen so many comments today about how good the Wigan fans were at the launch event from players and the Aussie top brass.

It was interesting watching some Australian news report on Youtube yesterday and the Aussie reporter was the typical arrogant and dismissive type and came out with a line of "we have Penrith, Canberra, Cronulla, NZ Warriors and The Jillaroos all in one stadium, oh and a couple of English teams as well". Fast forward 24 hours and the same bloke was raving to Peter V'Landys about Wigan and Warrington being there because of the atmosphere the fans are bringing.

I expect the Aussies will be blown away when they have the Fan Fest event at Freemont street and fans of Wigan and Wire are congregated together in big numbers. That should be something pretty special.

I am not surprised that our fans are wowing the locals. We are the best fans in the world. I sometimes feel our brilliance is under appreciated over here.

My take on this sort of thing is that the real difference maker is in getting Sky/BBC etc to get people over there. Once that is on the cards then the journos themselves have to talk it up in advance and when they over there to justify their own jolly. So it becomes hugely mutually reinforcing.

If say you are one of 3000 BBC employees who goes to the Paris olympics it is in your best interests to show that event in the best possible light (gloss over ridiculous opening ceremonies and a river of s—t and over hype wins by French athletes unknown and irrelevant to those of us on this side of la Manche, because there’s a ticket to LA28 riding on it…).

As soon as it became apparent Sky were going to have boots on the ground, the game justified its existence. Which is great, and much as it pains me to write this, but once again the game is in Wigan’s debt. 😇

Looking forward to 'What a sensational 37.8-18.9!'
