Your last sentence was unnecessary, but for the rest of it, you are spot on.

I don’t think any of the jokes on the markings were intended to mock the NRLs decision because shortening the markings by a minor amount for one game in order to give a better presentation is an obviously good decision.

I was actually dumbfounded to see how many professional clubs in the UK don’t have full size pitches.

Probably because half of them are playing in stadia older than Australia 😉

😂 yeah, I mean of any of the pro venues upgraded from the second half of the 20th century, why wouldn’t that upgrade include a full dimension pitch?

Usually  because they have other structures around them which limits how big it can actually be.

Sky are only showing  the two NRL games here in NZ, but  all the games are available on Free Sports Streams.

So what would be seen as a pass and success in terms of crowd?

45k a pass and steady improvement from last year.

50k a major success and on the right trajectory to eventually selling out the event.

If the numbers quoted as coming from the UK are right then it needs to be above 55k or else you've lost fans from the USA and Australia. That's not great in terms of longer term viability especially as you're really unlikely to be able to do that trick each time.

But 50k will look good in the stadium and the value to the NRL and Super League in their domestic markets, obviously there is no real value to the USA and we are hopefully no longer pretending there ever will be, is significant.

I really do hope someone from the RFL is out there observing marketing and PR efforts.

"This Fremont Street event would work just as well in St Helens town centre; let's get IMG on it."

I can confirm 30+ less sales for Scotland vs Italy at Workington, after this afternoons test purchase for the Tonga match, £7.50 is extremely reasonable, however a £2.50 'delivery' fee for a walk in purchase is beyond taking the mickey, good luck with that, it's cheaper on the telly.

Was reported over here today that V`landys met with the folk from RL Commercial and IMG.

They understand the business value and fundamental importance of having one standard, consistent set of field markings for every match without exception so what the spectators and viewers see in their matches is always the same 100% of the time. You know, like major sports always have.  What part of that don't you understand???????

No they'll use the distance between the lines to judge it like they always do.  It's really the only guide they have available to them.

BP I am not your enemy sir - we've bonded over our fondness for full size standardised pitch markings in the past, i'm sure of it! Keep fighting the good fight ✊

With the mission statement rattling around in their head 'How best to utilise our £50 marketing budget'

Decent segment on BBC Breakfast this morning.

Still, the RFL will need lessons on getting Vegas onto British TV, I'm sure.

Whatever people think of Peter V'landys he does get the game positive column inches and has people talking about the game

I think the markings and pitch size at Odsal is his main bugbear, and not just him.

Big events like this is exactly what RL needs. A season with a WCC, Vegas Event, Magic Weekend, CC Final, GF and a test series/WC all marketed and pushed in the media with big crowds would really put RL on the map

Those lines on the pitch with the number 10 on, what does that number refer to?

Knowing RL there will be someone betting this Challenge Cup Final tickets sales revenue on number 39 on Roulette!

Probably because of RL's low stature in the UK and its' cap-in-hand attitude of just making do with whatever it can get/afford.  Even in stadiums which have the space for a full size field of play they often just don't bother as you can see here:

1/10th of the distance from the near goal line to the opposite goal line, just like in every other RL match played on a properly marked field of play.

Find me one person who refers to that line as the “tenth of the pitch line” and not the 10 metre line

Yes. That definitely isn't shoe-horned logic at all 🤣

Defo not a 10m line.

I think this is a good sign for us moving in the direction of what has been spoken about in terms of having peaks of interest throughout the season.

More of this please! And less "oh but we won't use our corporate facilities for one match a year at the family day" thinking...

Pure, but admirable, gaslighting.

Main sports story on the BBC1 5.30pm news with a reporter live in the ground, pretty impressive.
