Firstly you need to ignore the name, this lad is nothing like his dad who was always an obvious if wayward talent.

Will is a decent player but at this point he’s not a stand out, not even in Wakefields Academy. His chances of getting first team were virtually nil at Trinity who have three better youngsters coming through into what is already a young back line. Pratt and Booth have already broken through, whilst Law won rave reviews on loan at York last year. A fourth under 21 centre/wing simply isn’t needed.

Could he make it at Leigh? Possibly, you never know but a 12 month deal suggests that Leigh are hedging their bets. Best of luck to him all the same.

There was a previous thread entitled Dad’s and their lads. This is just another example of mates rates! I personally don’t care who any players parents are as long as they are good enough and not riding on called in favours. Too many knocking about to list. But half a brain merchants will know where I am coming from.

He’s not 6 3 😂😂😂He’s taller than his dad though

I don't know the lad KP, the info I got was from the Leopards press release :-

"Head of Rugby Chris Chester said: “Will is a young, tall athletic centre, standing 6ft 3. I have been keeping an eye on him during his time at Wakefield including when he played against our Reserves side this season"

If he is 6, 3” he’s grown since I saw him a few month back. He’s probably around six foot which is still pretty tall.

He’s certainly got a big enough frame for RL. He’s also got some talent, but he’s not where his dad was at the age he is now. Danny put his own career back two years by being an idiot but he was always a star in the making.

How old is he?

18 according to the articles, but I’m sure Kp will be along soon with a copy of his birth certificate, drivers licence and blood type if that’s wrong.

I do apologise for knowing the lad and his dad. If you think Will is the next BIG thing then go old boy, I won’t lose any sleep over it.

Signings like this are just the sporting equivalent of lead generation. He won’t be troubling the 21 man squads  and will likely be the 6th choice centre but it’s a cheap and low risk year long trial in effect to get a look at him. Until the academy kicks in and starts producing the next few years Leigh will be unfortunately stuck relying on finding diamonds other clubs have missed or paying money on established players working their way over the hill.

Most of the young fringe signings don’t work out, but when they do like Umyla Hanley did then we’ve got a player with 10 years ahead of him rather than signing someone on the way back down(which is how Leigh have don’t things in the past).

Yes as I said it’s sporting lead generation and essentially a 12 month trial on cheap wages, nothing more. Leigh have just moved on a bunch of the previous young signings like Jacob Gannon, Tom Nisbet, Jacob Jones. More have come in the shape of Ryan Brown, AJ Towse, Brough etc. and if even one of them works out then it’s more than job done. If not then it’s bodies on training and the reserves.

Then yes, can see the sense in what is effectively a year long trial. Would certainly make more sense than signing Luis Roberts who needs to be playing first team rugby somewhere now. If his goalkicking is as good as Chester suggests in the press release, it might be a case of if he can do the basics right, get his positioning right, make his tackles, provide the dummy runs etc, then the kicking might eventually earn him a place in the team.

He’s 18, they got that right. He might be 6’3’’ in stilettos, but Chester must know something I don’t on that one.

Maybe he was stood 3 inches further away when you saw him?

Leigh sign second row Ethan O’Neill(son of Julian O’Neill) on 2 year deal. So Moylans final quota goes on more pack depth. Suggests that there is a big non quota signing to come with Moylans marquee money off the books.

edit- he’s actually quota exempt due to playing junior rugby in the UK as a child like Lam Jnr did, so still have a quota spare.

Leigh's recruitment seems to be based on building up one hell of a future quiz question.

I can confirm 30+ less sales for Scotland vs Italy at Workington, after this afternoons test purchase for the Tonga match, £7.50 is extremely reasonable, however a £2.50 'delivery' fee for a walk in purchase is beyond taking the mickey, good luck with that, it's cheaper on the telly.

Well we let Jacob Gannon go and missed out on Tristan Sailor a year ago so were starting to look light on that dept. Gonna be the best dads v lads game in history

He’s none quota, so still an overseas spot available.

Makes more sense now we know he's not a quota signing. Seems like a bit of a punt, but not sure what other second rowers we have beyond Condon and Halton, now Hughes will be playing most of his games down the middle now.

We’ve got Brad Martin and now O’Neill as probably next cabs off the rank with Hughes likely to be filling a bench utility forward role . There’s a fair bit of flexibility in the pack next year with scope to move Condon or Liu into the middles if needed. Other than the halfback replacement for Moylan, I’d actually like to see us prioritise getting another dedicated hooker in as cover, with the right addition we could see Ipape transition to 13 which I’m starting to think might be a more effective position for him so that he has a bit more space to run.

Nice of them to get his name almost correct.

Definitely need another established out and out prop we have been lacking for 2 years and a starting halfback and a centre ideally.

Yes really, might stun you too know I don’t hang on your every word or read your post looking for every nuanced message. I’m really not interested in you or your sizzling and immensely smug repartee.

I'm telling you that he ain’t that tall and IF, if being the operative word, that you think he’s the next big thing, as his dad was at that age, then if you do you will be disappointed.

Not a lot of nuance in saying he’ll be 6th choice at best…I mean pretty much every sentence I said was some variance of ‘he’s a low risk fringe player that probably won’t work out but he’s cheap and squad filler so it doesn’t matter’. You don’t have to read every word, maybe just one if you are going to quote me though?

Sangare to Salford, clearly Rowley believes that there is a player in there, also the addition of Chris Hill should improve Sangare, I think Salford have made a couple of shrewd moves so far tbf, adding some depth also to the backs with Marsters.

Did he or his dad steal your sweets or something?
