Abicus
Look, it ain't great. There is talk of double and triple headers in there (you would assume it would be a mix of Women/Mens) and NZ won't host any games; but if this is the nadir of World Cups, and a kinda reset like 2008. Sure, why not. Don't play games in Cairns and Darwin. Pick Brisbane, Newcastle, Sydney and Melbourne and go from there. 1

GeordieSaint
Underwhelming. But at least is happening. I do wish they’d stop double headers… 3

gogledd
If anyone is planning to go, don't miss out on a game in Papua New Guinea! I went as an independent travelling supporter to watch PNG vs Wales in 2017 and was so glad I made the effort. 8

Jparrish
Underwhelming, but there was genuine concern we wouldn't see a World Cup at all at one point. As a Sydney expat I'll hope a few more games than last time are staged in NSW. Optimistic but I'm hoping NZ not been involved paves the way for them to host the Men's in 2030. Otherwise what a shame they arnt capitalising on the momentum there at the moment.

Hopefully it means the Aussies have to step up and take proper ownership of the comp. Much of what was good in 2017 was in NZ and PNG let's be honest. And hopefully it does mean that if we can keep Oz and NZ for World Cup hosting, it can give us further options. 5

tiffers
Not a huge surprise to see Aus as the sole host with a bit of PNG. Reserving judgement until we get a few more details on locations, stadiums, pricing strategies etc.
Dave T
21 minutes ago, MatthewWoody said: Been to Cairns 2017 and I'm sure people enjoyed the games The crowds were very small though. Getting only 4.3k for Scotland v Samoa is a complete waste. 2008 was 'ok', but if we're honest, the only real quality event at that tournament was the final, which is still one of the most enjoyable sporting events I've ever been to. A couple of other events were solid, but not spectacular. The Aussie leg of the 2017 tournament was average at best (and that is very generous). Horrible, unfriendly scheduling for fans meant that attractive teams were playing in front of poor crowds in the largest RL nation in the world. The Aussies have never done this tournament well, I struggle to have any belief that they are well up for making this one a success. At the first opportunity they have already reduced the number of teams to reduce effort needed, which doesn't bode well.

I think 2008 was good and revitalised the concept again after the 2000 disaster and it felt like a step in the right direction. I could certainly accept the view though that it was just what we should consider as par for the biggest RL nation. 2013 was an improvement again. 2017 though was very average with little effort and I was really expecting it to be better again to continue that upward trajectory. It was though just a real token effort that was only saved by the crowds and atmosphere in PNG and at Tonga games in NZ. I fear 2026 will be the same. 2

sam4731
With a 6 year run up, could the NRL eyeing up hosting a RLWC in the USA in 2030? They seem to be getting SL and even the international game on side which would be crucial. Especially if they are looking to stick to 10 teams (which I hope they don't), it certainly seems more doable. 1
Henson Park Old Firm
Next question, will it GB or England that will represent?
Gomersall
Do we have any idea how much the 2017 WC made or lost. Whenever the Aussies host there’s always a shroud of mystery regarding any supposed profit.

Hopie
https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/rugby-league/articles/czd92pqdj81o Could have been New Zealand But it is Australia Could have been 2025 But it is 2026 All three events at the same time Double- or triple-headers
