I think a significant indicator for this game is the way Rovers managed Wigan in the recent league game when the sin bin periods allowed Wigan to come back and win.

One major difference for Rovers this year has been their improved completion rate and defensive discipline.

A big factor in this contest is Liam Marshall being given ball and space to score. The Rovers right edge is going to have to be way better than it was against Warrington where the points were conceded.

Though in that game, one sin bin was from a professional foul after a clean break from Wigan, while another was direct from the kick off after a Wigan try.

KR were unfortunate to lose that game, but I’m not sure it’s a clear cut case of they would’ve won without the yellow cards

The first game I ever saw Hull KR play was back in 1947 when I was taken  by my mum and dad to watch them play Wigan at the old Craven Park. My mum was a Rovers fan and dad came because although a Hull FC fan he loved watching Wigan.

The only incident I remember from the match was a decision to give a penalty for a voluntary tackle against Hull KR near their line at a critical stage of the match. Wigan kicked the penalty goal and went on to win 17-8.(kept the match programme for over 50 years).

In memory of my dear old mum I would love to see a Robins win.

To all attending I hope you enjoy the match whatever your team allegiance.

I’d love to see a Rovers win, I’m a Yorkshireman and, more importantly we need to see a different name on the trophy

I haven't bought a ticket yet but think I am going to buy 2 now. Anyone who's been before would you recommend sitting in the North East quadrant top tier, or the north stand top tier? Appreciate either way it may not be the best view, but healthy for the game it's looking on for a sell out.

Wigan selection will be interesting. We expect Farrell to be back, and pity to drop Walters after his performance against Leigh. I would drop Dupree, who in recent weeks has become the weak link in the forwards, too prone to errors and indiscipline.

I would like KR to do it, given how I can't stand the pies.

That said, Wigan are really good and I can't see anything but them getting the business done on the big stage. You have to lose one to win one sometimes!

I think they should still penalise voluntary tackles.

Always nice reading your reminisces on games past.

I'm hoping KR got that out of their system with the Wembley loss, heehee...

Just bought tickets for me and my son to go down from Edinburgh then straight back to watch our boys hopefully triumph over York the next day.

Some amount of travelling but I hope its a great game for all watching be different if Wigan or Hull KR were playing say Leeds or Saints but like both the Pies & Robins so I'm staying neutral. Be nice for someone new to wIn it I guess and KR from Yorkshire of course, however Wigan are just great to watch.

May the best team win and I hope everyone has a great time in Manchester.

Agree with this.

Dupree is simply not good enough to play for Wigan. Absolute liability for which i am sure Wigan now regret paying big bucks for !!

Time for a new name on the trophy so I'd like to see Hull KR win, but that Wigan team are going to take some stopping.

I doubt the club are. He played a huge part in helping the club win the LLS and Grand Final in 2023. He's not been as good this season but his minutes have been limited because of the form of Havard and Thompson but he's doing pretty well. The original point about him being littered with errors and indiscipline doesn't really stack up. He's made 6 errors all season and given 11 penalties away. He kicked a ball away and got a silly yellow last week but at 38-0 it mattered little.

I say all that but I wouldn't be against Walters having his bench spot on Saturday (If Farrell doesn't play) but that's more because of the balance it would give us, with Walters being able to cover more positions.

The available space is what it is, but can somebody explain to me why Old Trafford doesn't deal with its limitations by marking out a shorter pitch between the dead ball lines, as for example Castleford do, rather than materially impact the key scoring zone like this...?

Neither is ideal, but the North East Quadrant top tier is probably better, it's only as high as the middle tier of the North Stand, whereas the 3rd tier of the North is higher still and to be honest like being in the Gods. I've also found at United games in the past that the atmosphere doesn't seem to carry up there either. Other thing is the Quadrants probably have better food & drink options.

Unless you really want a purely side-on view of course.

Worzel,

Personally I'd swerve the North altogether.Top tier you get reduced atmosphere as its so high.Id be either trying south stand or behind the goals in the east(opposite the Stretford end)

My rationale is as follows, at the end of the game you will either exit onto the forecourt or just under the tunnel .

You are perfectly placed for the short walk to the metrolink  that goes into Manchester or Altrincham..

It's very quick to get away from the ground  in the East stsnd as all car parks are blocked 15 minutes prior to end of game..

If it's raining the above stands are more suitable , East & South...

North stand upper at the final whistle will be challenging to get out of and then there is a walk to the tram as you have to circumnavigate round the ground to the forecourt area.

Stretford unfortunately was my first posting as a police officer over  3 decades ago so I had to do footy duties nearly every other week...

Yeah you may be right, but the OP's problem is that there's only North 3rd tier and North East Quadrant tickets available I think. Too late for the South and the Stretford End.

We're in the posh seats in the North 2nd tier ourselves, I prefer the half-way line view and convenient for our short walk to Hotel Football for the celebratory family dinner after Hull KR's generational victory!  🤣

If I was going to pick I think anything North or South 2nd Tier as you get the middle view.

They are more expensive but you get what you pay  for .

MUFC games are polar opposite to a grand final in that United fans are there every other week so build the experience up.

I'd personally  not opt for  north upper...You will not get the experience as It's blooming high up.

Sometimes it's better for a few like minded fans to pitch in and buy an executive box.

Hope it's a good night for rugby but remember Manchester and the word rain goes hand in glove.

At the end exit ASAP and get over to Warwick Rd metro unless you are driving and if so don't park in the MUFC car parks as they close 15 minutes prior to end of game. This is so to aide fans to egress the Old Trafford area safety.

I remember really looking forward to last year's Grand Final, hoping there just might be a new name on the trophy.

Can't quite put my finger on it but it's just not happening for me this year.

Thanks guys, I went NE Quadrant, I did think the North may be a bit lacking in atmosphere. I actually bought through KRs site as they have different tickets available than through the general website.

If Farrell does play, I hope it's because he's fully fit and not out of a sense of loyalty to him and a Grand Final appearance. I think his form this season has not been as good as in previous seasons.

He has to be 100% or they can't play him and I'm confident they'll make the right call. He hasn't had loads of stand out games this season (as he usual does) but he's very rarely anything less than a 7/10 and it gives me confidence that probably his best game this season came in the challenge cup final.

Yeah I think that's fair, Wigan were much stronger in the 2nd half and were always going to be. Peet is a good coach and whilst Rovers had a great 1st half he was always going to find a way to get Wigan to step up in the 2nd.

There's no doubt Wigan have another gear on Rovers if they're on form and can find it. But in sport if you're a good team with the right ethic you can earn a victory against a superior side, and Rovers have the wherewith-all to at least make that a possibility. That'll do me for now. Even a defeat would be another good step in the road, it's coming in the next few years even if not this weekend, you can feel it around the place.
