Players breaching C-19 protocols (Merged Threads)

Recommended Posts

This is a bit of a disaster. The NRL provided the blueprint which was either ignored or wasn't possible. In any case, this throws the season into doubt now. Could this be an isolated incident and not happen again? The scenario seems unfortunate if true but unless all staff involved are kept in a bubble this is likely to happen again.

This was always likely given the attitude to this threat in general in the UK and the desperation to get things back to normal when the problem has nowhere near been eradicated.

Let's say they have to quarantine both sides for 2 weeks because of this , they just won't be able to fit it all in , with a tighter comp they could have isolated squads better

And if one or more of the other teams have players testing positive in the next week or two? Should they have, for example, excluded all with a WA postcode as well as Catalans?

I thought it was the trip to the hospital rather than the baby that was the source.

Preston had a mixed community but the spike in cases is also linked to the age demographic in equal numbers to generational households. The fault could be the lack of thought from the younger members of the family transmitting to older people.

Back to the rugby, Hull will have to investigate their protocols that allowed transmission from player to Physio to other players.

Where does this leave the fixtures as both Salford and Hull could miss 2 weeks of games especially if no training for 14 days

Salford will only miss one game, as the weekend of the 22nd is given over to the Challenge Cup preliminary round thing. Salford's next game after the (now postponed) Catalans game is on the 29th. If the 14 day self-isolation is properly observed, this will mean they only have three days to train for that game. Fortunately, it's against Leeds, a team that looks like it's only trained for three days over the past five months.

They should only include teams which are based in towns which aren’t transport hubs. Ones that don’t have a train station for example

If it's only flu, why is the State of Victoria in lock down.  Why did 6 AFL clubs move to Queensland?

And it's not only over 65s.  Pearson points out he is diabetic.

The spikes we are having are in part because young people are thick and are selfish and care less.

Read it again Rupert - Most Healthy folk, ie those not in the risk catagory

Various Scottish footballers were named.   Not least loudly named by Sturgeon.  So I don't see Pearson worrying.

Were they? In the daily press conferences she absolutely didn't name anyone, I had to go to Twitter to see who they were.

I'm pretty sure Sturgeon didn't put these names in the public domain, she was very wary of what she was saying.

Of course she didn't, she'll be well aware of the rules. No one who's tested positive after the Aberdeen incident  has been named as doing so in the UK media. The players who visited a bar might have been named after issuing an apology but all we know from the media is that 2 players have since tested positive.

A further aspect of Pearson's comments is that an infant is involved, so as well as breaking medical confidentiality could easily open a new can of worms with child protection rules.

For all you know he obtained the player's permission to make public his theory beforehand.  Our coach mentioned Matty Lees after the event also, even though Matty tested negative (he reported a sore throat prior to our first match and so was left at home and sent for a Covid test).  Personally I'm all for naming and shaming a player if he has gone for a night out on the booze because not only are they risking the lives of others they may not even know but they are also putting our sport in jeopardy.  However, if the virus has been picked up despite the person's best efforts then that is another matter entirely, although the player in Hull's case really shouldn't have attended his physio session when he was experiencing symptoms, assuming that is how the outbreak occurred.

What do you need a train for when you can build a guided busway anyhow?

That is a very strong accusation for you to make on a website where the comments can be accessed with a simple google search.

Even i had the common sense not to name any of the Aberdeen players.Thats probably a first for me common sense.

I'm not sure if this is just Leeds or its every team but Leeds are training in 3 groups of 8 to minimize cross contamination. Hopefully in the Hull case its been just one of these groups that has been affected.

Long term I hope this is a bit of a wakeup call to players/clubs and mean they all become even more cautious.

Whats the point if they still let players "socialise" out and about... and if one contaminate the other 7 in group of 8 they wouldn't be able to play the game anyway.

Like I said I don't know if thats a Leeds specific policy or is league wide. Simon Woodford has apparently called for stricter guidance and rules. Relying on common sense isn't realistic.

This is the issue for me.  There’s too much left to trust.

Imho the NRL set the standard and we should’ve been sensible enough to follow it.  They’ve still had their problems but I think we’ve been too niaive.
