It would be great if all the Huddersfield fans took a cowbell to an away game, it’d be like Ski Sunday.

It's all down hill from here.

Was reading season averages in the 'ull paper online.

5 clubs above 10k.

Cats and KR (suspected) 8k plus

Leigh and another 7k plus.

Theses are big numbers compared with the start of SL. Just shows how well the clubs are now supported and what new stadiums and better facilities can bring

It is, and far from me to down play it, but at the top end our averages aren't going on the same trajectory.

Wigan and Leeds used to be the two in the 15k plus bracket, now neither can be certain of that. Instead of pushing on to closer to 20k they have gone backwards towards the 12/13k mark.

Obviously that's still good relatively when compared to the rest of the league and sport, but it is still a noticeable decline.

what do you think  caused that decline.

I would assume for Leeds poor performance/lack of success over recent years, Leeds Utd being in premiership taking media and potential fan interest away from Leeds.  Plus recovering from stadium rebuild limits not recovering.

Wigan, again I assume being so close to top Premier League soccer clubs is slowly impacting.

anyway I have no idea but just pondering...

Its hard to be certain.

For Leeds I think there are several factors at play. Since the start of the 2011 season, regular season form has often been hit and miss. There's also been a few notably bad seasons in the past 8 years - in which ironically we have still won a grand final and a challenge cup, but that is the nature of expectations at the Rhinos.

Equally we have lost the Bradford derby match and I think the club took its eye off the ball in a lot of departments whilst the stadium rebuild was going on. Its seemed a bit rudderless at times I have to admit. I'm not 100% on the impact of LUFC, particularly since 2018-19. Though clearly they are one the rise in terms of interest in the city and wider region.

More broadly I think RL generally has stagnated in that time period. There's been a settling for mediocrity and "sustainability". Bigger clubs have sat back somewhat as they haven't needed to push on too much to stay ahead. Leeds can lose 4k off their average and still get the highest average attendances.

Where is the excitement? Toronto were that I think for a lot of fans, but they were just one fleeting option with no real plan from anyone, particularly the governing body, about how to develop and maximise that opportunity.

Where is the project for fans to get behind? At Leeds currently the project seems to be spend as little as possible, including for example having a cheap unknown kit manufacturer, and the crowds will keep coming...

Pitiful looking crowd here for Tigers v Dolphins.

Such a shame we have gone so long without this match. I fail to understand how a club of such standing only 10 years ago has languished in the Championship with such poor administration.

If they had a standout season in ‘24, do we think they could immediately average more than 10k of fans back in SL?

I don’t, it’s a different generation now and Bullmania was a long time ago.

I think they'd have a core of about 6-7k if they came back up as a lower midtable team. Depending on how many travel for the derbies and other big games, could be around 8-9k average. Would love them back, but they have a lot to do to sort themselves out again! The standing of RL is West Yorkshire has declined without them.

And it was a 10 year or so period in Bradfords history. For much of their history crowds weren't great.

That’s interesting, as I only really followed the SL from about 2001, so thought they were always a big club. I always wish I went to a packed derby at Odsal.

Going from the last winter season to the first summer SL season they more or less doubled their crowds and improved significantly beyond that too for a fair few years until it all went pear shaped. They developed into a real powerhouse.

They sure were, which is such a shame to see them where they are now.

What was it about Bull Mania that had them rolling through the gates @Damien?

Why can’t it be replicated at Huddersfield and Wakefield and Castleford?

Warning, nostalgia post imminent.

I went to Bradford a few times in 90s, I remember the bands and parades at Odsal. Can't remember the games mind.

Was in a 24000 crowd there.

Will it happen again?

I'm going to stick this out there for Leeds at least  .....Leeds have no family ticket option. If you want to sit then it is over £100 for a family of 4 with young kids

This is compared to Leigh where it is about £60 for a family ticket option and Huddy about £50

I raised this with someone at the club ....they weren't interested ....fobbed me off with the fact they do one special family day

I wonder how many people and by that I suspect mostly blokes who therefore don't bring their whole family as a result?

Kids attending are worth their weight in gold.....if games don't sell out then a club like Leeds should be virtually giving away kids tickets and not trying to charge £20 for six year olds

I think Leeds in particular would welcome a strong Bradford ......might even get the second ever sell out in the history of the new Headingly (the Burrow game is the the only one ever so far)

Yes if they use money they don't have again.

Success, spending a lot of money, some real star players, cheap tickets, great marketing, new SL era and entertainment. Even Odsal lent itself to that new summer era of watching RL in the sun. All in a big ciry. It was all a perfect storm.

It's hard to see that being replicated 30 years later at the grounds of the teams you mention. Times change too.

Yes it can!

“All” we need are 2 leagues of 10, home and away games, with cross league derby fixtures.

The solution is staring us in the face!
