The east stand opposite the camera is the concern. It currently looks about 1/3 full… hopefully will sell a lot more by Friday.

Once Leigh have Sold out the North, they will be receiving 3 sections of the East I believe (Nearest the North stand)

So 15k has been hit now. Its definitely going to be at least the 2nd largest play off crowd of the last 10 years:

Great stuff, considering we still have a few days to go. The numbers are clearly including the Leigh numbers too - otherwise they really would be announcing that this was 18-20k

No Leigh numbers in that, so it’s 20k sold

It makes no sense that they are only giving 75% of the sales number as the update.

Definitely not true, the Wigan ends are no more than half-full at this stage

And when you can plainly see on the Wigan site that it’s nowhere near 20,000 (yet)

I’ve got a sneaky feeling that Leigh will only have a handful (if any) fans spilling round to the East/West. I just hope that people recognise a full North as the incredible following that it is rather than think it below par after some of the hyperbole earlier in the week.

Any playoff games being televised on BBC?

I assume when it has been announced that Wolves and Saints was a record tv “playoff audience” or to this effect, they were not including SL GF audiences?

Correct.

It was also a nice bit of spin, but all very technical.

We've had higher figures for regular games this season, highlighting playoffs only is a manipulation really - only a small number of games have been shown live in terrestrial tv.

We've also had playoffs as highlights on terrestrial for years, likely beating these figs in reality.

But, it was a game that was affected by competition. Strictly was on BBC one at the same time, and Liverpool on Sky at the same time.

I do expect if it was Sky only our numbers would be half what they were though.

The Wire v Saints game last week and the Wigan v Leigh game this week.

Another big play off crowd. Feels like a big event and will look great on TV. As a neutral I’m hoping for a good quality game. Would like Leigh to win though

Me too but I think Wigan will be there (sorry Leigh fans)

20k could be on the cards now:

They look to be moving quite rapidly now, particularly in the West Stand.

These games should be crackers and both look great on TV. I wonder whether we've finally stumbled onto the best format crowd-wise after loads of changes.

I think we can overthink the format side of things and could also accept that, actually, a lot of this is down to the momentum of a mostly fun season that had plenty of talking points, and that the quality of the matches - and the atmosphere people have either been in or seen - is making them games that people don't want to miss out on.

I generally agree, but we've had a couple of years now of good crowds with this format, and I think the move to a top 8 really harmed the playoffs tbh. I think having playoffs that meant the winner got a week off was a poor development.

I think the current one has a nice level of risk and simplicity with no second chances. My personal view is that it doesn't quite reward positions as fairly as it could, but the format does lead to great knockout battles.

That's fair. I tend to exclude the top 8 when thinking about formats because it was so, so bad.

I do think we've struck lucky too with the match ups since Covid. We've always had Catalans at home and Salford, Hull KR and Leigh fans have all really bought into it with great home and away support which has boosted crowds.

Yeah, there is always a risk that we end up with Wire v Cas and Wigan v Hudds and it looks poor again. Hopefully some momentum has been built though and people are starting to enjoy these playoffs again!

It may be marginal in effect but I have really loved what seems to have been a step up in the promotion of the play-offs this year. Loving the gold!

Agreed. The branding is rather nice at the moment.

Almost as if we’ve got a strategic partner on board that knows what it’s doing isn’t it!
