I was going to show my wife who teaches research methods at university but I am afraid she would divorce me.

I think that's one of the most amateurish things about it. Anyone with a background in qualitative research would completely rip it to shreds. It's like they got the work experience kid to do it.

Out of interest are there any players likely to be in the mix for GB who would not be eligible for England under the rather all encompassing eligibility arrangements?

If not Why are we even talking about this? Its not going to help us beat the Aussies should we ever play them.

To structure the NH in a meaningful way would be a good answer, instead it seems just to be a marketing g ploy by the RFL as a short-term fix

According to this article the RFL fan consultation and questions around the Ashes tour to Australia (which now looks to have changed) showed that fans wanted to tour as England and not GB:

Next year’s tour would be against England rather than Great Britain, after senior officials opted against reverting back to the Lions brand after consideration from the public

Hope that's the final nail in the coffin.

If people don't want it back now, and this consultation and every straw poll always suggests they don't, they never will. The sands of time will simply see those in favour diminish more and more.

Unless we actually see the results, which we probably never will, we will never know the overall voting and comments. I do imagine though that the results were pretty unanimous as the people pushing this were itching to bring it back and I think even if it was close either way that would have been  enough for them to do so.

Yeah I think if the strength of feeling wasn't enough this time round that's it probably put to bed.

The prize up for grabs now is the red and blue V shirt. England have been edging towards it for the past few years, I think an Ashes tour might be the event they just fully claim it and annoy all the old Welsh players.

I was born to run a club like this. Number 1, I do not spook easily, and those who think I do, are wasting their time, with their surprise attacks.

I only noticed yesterday that the current england kit design isn't a straight line it's a very very low angled chevron

Oh wow, you are not wrong. They are being way more subtle with this than I ever anticipated.

Honestly, if we put England in a red and blue chevron and then bring in the lions head … everyone will be happy.

Yes it is, but they might choose to revise that later. They released a WC shirt with a red cross which was superseded because the the competition was delayed a year. They just changed the description on the website from WC shirt to 2021 shirt. I don't think Oxen will be able to hold back on this one.

For what it’s worth, I love the GB brand and I would find it a shame to close down any opportunity of talented Welsh, Scot’s or Irish to participate in a flagship series like the Ashes, no matter how far away it feels that we will get to see anyone but English in the jersey.

If any such players show up then I’m sure we’ll find a way, in much the same way we quietly became GB & Ireland to incorporate Brian Carney.

But does the Ashes get shown on BBC Wales/Scotland/N Ireland for England v Kangaroos? Serious question, I don’t know.

And if it is, can a young fella from any of those nations identify with the match in the same way as if it were GB? Wouldn’t they be just as likely to go for Aus in a match against England?

I understand it’s a long way from having a Welshman in the team and even longer for players from the other two, but personally, I like the GB brand and like the opportunity it represents for the whole of GB and Ireland.

The GB brand doesn't represent any opportunity where Ireland is concerned.  Ireland is not a British Isle and any Irishman would always go for Australia (and anyone else for that matter) against GB.

I am well aware of that. I meant a GB&I team. Hell even if just GB, still represents Wales and Scot’ and doesn’t alter my point.

But thanks for standing up on a stool to pedantically pick out one minor piece. Maybe you can stand in your own stool next time.

Ireland is in the British Isles. Irish players have long played for GB.

The 26-county Republic of Ireland is independent but GB traditionally encompassed Britain and Ireland, since the team preceded Irish partition.

I always cheered for GB growing up; I don't feel quite the same connection to England (even though my Dad is English), although I'd probably be supporting them against the Roos.

I would prefer it to be GB for an Ashes series, but England vs Australia will still be massive.

And, yeah, it's on the regional BBC channel here in Ireland: BBC NI.

No. WC as individual nations.

And Tri-Nations, Four Nations, series against NZ, Tonga, Samoa, Pacific Championship (if we ever got invited to play in it for a year), etc.....?

Is it just the Ashes we play as GB. If so, why?

Not having a go at you - just trying to understand exactly what you're proposing.

I thought Brian Carney was the first?

Digging into wiki, I can't see any others.

Small in number but there is Tom McKinney and Bob Kelly. Des Foy is very much Irish these days as well, hehe.

I am solidly with you on the love of the GB brand.  Saw all Ashes series in England from 1952 to 1963( 3 series wins to GB) and all in Aus from 1970 until 2003.( 1 series win to GB in 1970)

Was really looking forward to seeing the Ashes series return to Aus. in 2025 but events have overtaken that possibility.
