My understanding was that it was appeal to the RFL with new information then appeal to sports resolution if that didn't go your way or go to sports resolution. So it depended on whether he had new information or not.. and that was debated. So no it wasn't either or.. it was "what is your appeal about" hence the point made . It's the process they followed the process. 2

In most situations, in order to exercise an external right of appeal you must first exhaust your internal process, which would include an internal appeal. That adds up to two. My opinion based on the evidence in this thread alone is that Aston wanted to skip the internal appeal and go straight to external, this would usually require permission from both sides of a dispute which here appears to have been agreed, and presented as a partial victory for Aston for some reason.

Again. it's not my reading of rule D1.60, which is that there is one appeal, either to the RFL or Sports Resolution. At the discretion of the RFL. This decision has had far reaching consequences and should not be dealt with internally. "We'll sell you a seat .... but you'll only need the edge of it!"
JohnM Posted November 23, 2024 Posted November 23, 2024 Maybe Aston and his claque will resume their campaign for truth, honesty and justice (MSGA), soliciting support to their cause, by giving us chapter and verse on the appeal process with they are now engaged That would be far more illuminating than indulging in argument merely for the sake of contrary arguing. Maybe. Though I've not seen much appetite for being "illuminated". You ask for "chapter and verse". They're in the post above your own. The appeal can go to the RFL or to Sports Resolutions. The process allows for either but not both. In both cases, the panel is independent and, in both cases, it is intended to review how the original decision was reached and the fairness of the sanction - it is not usually a fresh look at the evidence. 1 2 Build a man a fire, and he'll be warm for a day. tim2 Posted November 28, 2024 Posted November 28, 2024 (edited) Mark Aston moved to a non-coaching role pending results of appeal, with a move to Director of Rugby whether the appeal succeeds or not. https://www.sheffieldeagles.com/Eagles-News/article/club-statement-mark-aston/ This seems to be a sensible move all round. They (the club and Mark) just need to be very careful to not blur any lines at all, otherwise the RFL will come down like a ton of bricks. Who will be able to fill Mark's shoes as head coach? It has to be a strong character who can get the trust of the supporters quickly. M j M Posted November 28, 2024 Posted November 28, 2024 Very much a poisoned chalice you'd have thought with Aston still there. 1

Tommygilf Posted November 28, 2024 Posted November 28, 2024 Seems like the only sensible option for the club at this stage, and likewise perhaps a refresh in coaching was needed anyway? I'd hope there is ambition at Sheffield to get one of the top level free agents floating about. With a bit more direction and consistency through the year their squad could certainly challenge at the very top of the table. 3
JohnM Posted November 28, 2024 Posted November 28, 2024 Finally, a measured and sensible and dare I say, professional statement from Sheffield. Well done. 1 Bernard Manning lives! Welcome to be New RFL, the sport's answer to the Wheeltappers and Shunters Social Club.
