Everton have just got a "rugby ball" from somewhere, they're helping to promote an event at their stadium, and we moan it's the wrong ball! No-one apart from RL fans will know the difference, yet we have a go at those actually helping! Why?

Is it though? imagine turning up to a football launch with a volleyball, same shape isn't it?

I bet 9 out of 10 Rugby League fans couldn't tell the difference between a rugby league ball and a rugby union ball

Nobody would care.

It's a bit of fun and the exposure from a Premier League football team's social media account is fantastic for our sport.

It's a Rugby Union Lions ball, isn't it?

Everton may have thought it was GB that were going to be taking on the Aussies, haha...

Once upon a time I'd have blamed cyclists, but now I can blame the new regime at the RFL. 😀

I don't see the problem. Only pedants would care about this.

Everton's comms team would probably have been asked this morning to post some 'content' about the RL Test match announcement, and nipped down to the nearest Sports Direct and bought a rugby ball.

A rugby league ball is oval shaped and smooth from continual handling. A rugby union ball is a gathering of public school toffs in tuxedos sipping gin and tonics.

A rugby union ball is easily identifiable by the kicking tee attached to it.

Rugby Union balls are pointier because they are designed to be kicked (out of play) and Rugby league balls are less so because they are designed to be passed and caught. Its a poor effort to have the wrong ball, and if they don;t have any balls then we should have sent them some to use for promotional purposes!

Why cover the cost of something nobody cares about (the ball) when somebody else will cover it.

Surely rounder balls would be easier to kick and pointier balls easier to pass. Rounder balls are trending closer to footballs and pointier balls closer to NFL balls.

What?! It’s the complete opposite! It’s a poor effort to be commenting on this and get it so wrong, so I think we can give a football club a break who are actually trying to promote the game

Yes exactly which is why rugby union balls are rounder and rugby league balls pointier

I've never played either code but I've watched both since the late 1980's and I genuinely had no idea that there was a difference.

Is it a mortal sin if I admit I didn't know that there was a difference?

Not at all hence my earlier comment. Most RL fans don't know the difference never mind casual sports fans.

Most people don't and you can only tell when you look at them up close

Why didn't the RFL take a few properly branded balls over?

It looks like something Everton have done off their own bat, to promote an event at their new home. That's a massive positive that some are using to criticise, and I don't get it. This isn't the same as Nigel Wood wearing an England union scarf, because he would know better!
