Queensland's match-winning try in Game 1 of the 1994 Origin series is as good a try as there can be. Given the calibre of player involved (on both sides) and the match situation, rugby league doesn't get better. "Renouf down the touchline..." as a kid supporting Brisbane and QLD, those were the words you wanted to hear!

Sport, amongst other things, is a dream-world offering escape from harsh reality and the disturbing prospect of change.

Great call. Everyone on these forums need to watch that video clip. Uplifting to say the least. We can do it again in the next World  Cup in 2021......

It appears that RL only began in 1990. No tries before then merit a mention.

I would have thought that Cive Sullivan's try in 1972 was worth a look.

It just reflects the average age of the people on here marra.

The best ever try could have been scored in 1921 but not many people who post on here will have seen it.

Same with any sport - best ever Soccer player isnt Messi - Its Maradona by a mile ..........but someone older may say Pele, or Best or Finney.

Just watched Green Vigo's hatrick for Wigan against Leeds at  Headingley in 1977 again, poor John Atkinson,a great winger himself couldn't get near him,has to be one of best hatricks ever scored.

As a Wigan supporter I could obviously list several which could be classed as the greatest. However, and as respect to one of THE best wingers I ever saw, I would offer a try scored by Tom van Vollenhoven in the 1958-59 Championship Final against Hunslet. Apparently there is no film footage of this try but there used to be a framed series of photos showing the try from start to finish in the Park Hotel in Wigan. He went full length of the field beating several players and scored behind the posts. It was a vital try in the context of the game as there was not much in it at the time. St.Helens went on to win 44-22. Does anybody else remember it?

Both great players but you have to factor in the fact that Atkinson was a serving police officer who had just completed a 12 hour shift......

Yes, amazing. Vigo's treble, and team-mate Jim Nulty's superb solo try in the same game, made it onto the BBC's 100 Top Rugby League Tries video. Four from one team in the one match!

I’ve never seen it but this is the try my dad gives as the best he’s ever seen.

I’m trying to find out what happened to the photographs as the Park Hotel no longer exists. If I can get copies I’ll let you know.

I read about that try in an old Keith Macklin History of Rugby League book. Sounded an amazing try.

not the best but interesting  tim spears v wakey timed at 7 seconds

This link concerns the report of a try scored on 15 May 2010 by Danny Samuels of Rochdale Hornets who scored a try at Swinton in a time verified by the video at 7.3 seconds.

https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/rugby-league/campbell-disputes-dannys-claims-889892

However, as can be read in the report, Oldham winger Chris Campbell (who later became a referee in Super League) scored a try in 7.0 seconds on 18 May 2003 while playing away at Doncaster.

It does seem that on the above match at Featherstone the kick-off is shown on the video timing at 00.07 yet at 00.14 the ball has not been grounded for a try.

The BBC used to have a try-of-the-season award for which the winner won the "Eddie Waring Memorial Trophy".

Could that not be re-introduced ?

Even if they did it on Sky then could they not at least still call it by that same name in honour of Eddie ? Yes some people criticise him but many don't realise what great work he did to promote our game even before he became more well-known.
