Featherstone investigation

Recommended Posts

Unless im reading it wrong, I dont believe Worrincy and Blackmore are made out to be mates. It is another Sheffield player that they are speaking about.

I think he has tried to be funny, realised hes messed up, and then tried to come up with an excuse. I don't think he should be made out to be a huge racist because of whats happened. I think he needs to be more careful about the company he is trying to make jokes with ie. not on social media where the whole world can see.

Social media is mad and I think a lot of players would be simply better either not having accounts or if they have to have them posting under an alias. They are so in the spot light its ridiculous. One of our players made a post using a GIF that was aimed at welcoming fans back in to the games. Stupidly he used one of Jarryd Hayne and probably never even thought about it, our club retweeted it which I must admit I were a little bit taken a back but he then had people having ago pretty much implying he were supporting Hayne. Mad times.

Very good words from Worrincy. I'm staggered with Blackmore's response to this considering he said they were close friends. Dare I say, instead of making up some nonsense story, if he had admitted to an error of judgement and apologised wholeheartedly he wouldn't have got a 10 week ban. Just shows he had no remorse, and didn't even consider the impact on his friend.

I tend to think you're right. Idiocy.

Those comparing it to Clubb really miss the fact that Blackmore thought about what he typed and clicked send. He had the opportunity not to do so. Not defending Clubb by the way, before anyone suggests that.

If you think people think hard and long before posting stuff on social media you’re naive

Whether it’s spoken or written it still goes through peoples heads. The trick is for it not to begin with

Two completely different incident in completely different circumstances. They are rightly judged individually.

I don't think Ben is a racist though his comments were. I do think posting sheeite like that on social media is bloody stupid. Daft as a sodding brush..... and I don't mean 'sodding'!

Then he's as daft as a brush. Get your hands held high and declare your regret.... and learn a bloody lesson.

I genuinely do think he thought it was a joke without any ill intent but its racist nonetheless. Sh it like this might have been passed over without a second thought in 1974. We live in a world of increasing awareness now.  You just can say this sh it and get away with it

Intelligence is obviously not his strong point. He should use his time away from the game and read " To kill a mocking bird"and "Roots" and also "Becoming"

An observation here. Me and my mate will take the pizz out  of each other mercilessly. No holes barred and at times utterly foul - even on Christmas cards. He's one of my closest mates of many years whom I trust implicitly.

However, I keep all the tripe away from social media and from the eyes and ears of others. We both hold professional registrations that could be compromised should that stuff ever get shared with anyone else.

Ben will learn an expensive lesson here.

If you're attacking each others holes, you're doing it wrong. That's not allowed even in ''no holds barred wrestling'' or mixed martial arts. If I were you, I'd sit down and create some ground rules, before it gets out of hand.

Or maybe he's just a bit thick?

Sport, amongst other things, is a dream-world offering escape from harsh reality and the disturbing prospect of change.

If he’s not broken the clubs code of conduct then they need a new one

He may have broken the club's code of conduct but that will surely be between BB and the club and should be dealt with internally.

They haven't said anything and this is a problem in itself in my opinion.

The meeting notes stated that he hadn't completed certain checks around code of conduct - surely it's the clubs responsibility that all players will have done the necessary checks before the season even kicks off.

Specifically the football manager or the CEO of the club.

The club should be confirming that his actions are unacceptable and have there own internal process reviewed, in particular the social media policy.

The interesting thing would be the punishment for a supporter who posted the same on social media of a club.

Seemed okay for Wigan/Clubb why different for Fev. Assuming they think he’s done something wrong

I see a good few posts have been removed from the thread (again) which is almost certainly due to people complaining to moderators about them. (Who actually does that btw???)

Am just throwing this out there, but is it any wonder issues like this keep rearing their head in the game when even hardcore afficionados of the sport (ie: us as a group... TotalRL posters) are unwilling to address the root cause of these problems?

It is quite obvious to me, that certain entities within the game (could be clubs, organisations or individuals) are beyond criticism on here. Why is this?

Failure to address issues like this head-on, are IMO permitting them to continue by being complicit and failing to call them out for what they are.

This is only my opinion, (and I don't want to name any names), but is it really any wonder this festers away in the sport when attempts to call it out are quite obviously suppressed?

I believe This thread is regarding the alleged breech of the ban on socialising in the UK.

May I suggest you Start a thread on topic to address any particular issues you may have.

Or Alternatively, there may be a specific thread in existence on the Featherstone Rovers sub-forum.

Ben Blackmore is not racist and that is the reason he did not apologise  for his post. However it can rightly be classed as a racist remark. The club has been slow to act and make a statement, the player is a contracted player in the clubs employment so they do bear some responsibility. No sport has done more to integrate Black and ethnic minority players than Rugby League,Ces Thompson,Roy Francis, and the first black captain of any British sports team the late great Clive Sullivan. When i started watching in the mid fifties Billy Boston Wigan and Johnny Freeman Halifax stood out.The home fans loved them as their own.Even in them days the away fans may shout out remarks but were quickly admonished by fans alongside.Hope Ben learns from his 10 match ban that you need to think before posting.
