Or is it a case of having to have the extra games to keep all the Sky money? Fewer games and Sky pay less (see last 'season'). Without it we're bust.

That may be the reason, but it was still the SL Clubs decision to make

Silly season has started.

Can you imagine if Cas forfeited their game against Leigh or Salford for instance ? There would be a mutiny. That points for percentage too might get Saints over the line !

Some teams getting a nice break here, covid or not covid and the season will be over for some before we know it who are not affected by the pandemic.

It isnt going away and in all, its just making a mockery of the Season which is a shame.

The RFL need to start cleaning some mess up quickly IMHO.

No one will forfeit a gae V Salford or Leigh, they assume they can win even with kids.

I think we are too harsh on ourselves with a lot of this.

It's largely the same people who for various reasons love to death ride the game who are delighted to latch on to any spurious reason to pursue their agendas.

I tend to find that i read something on the bbc or somewhere else and dont tend to find it too depressing but more "shame but unavoidable" and when talking to mates have the similar feeling.. but then come on here and end up finding out that actually i am wrong and it is the death of the game... (which hasnt died yet)

And then you look on twitter and it is 20 times worse.

I look at twitter less and less at the moment for that very reason.. its an echo chamber or utterly depressing or both.. with the odd bit of light heartedness if you follow the right person but very rarely is there much positivity on it.

You follow the wrong people.

Salford haven't announced their squad for the Wakefield game - should have been released by noon.

An ominous sign?

Wakefield’s announced an hour ago. It looks inevitable, doesn’t it? Especially given the form Cas and them have for this.

I don't do RL at all on there apart from light hearted ones or serious news accounts.

Castleford have been prioritising the cup final ever since they won the semi final. I'm pretty sure that if the final was this weekend they would play and field a strong team.

If players test positive for COVID or have been in close contact then those are figures which cannot be manipulated and the very nature of the COVID rules means that even players who are feeling 100% fine are not allowed to play.

Postponing a game due to injuries is a whole different matter and would normally lead to very severe consequences.

It's right that Cas should have to forfeit the game and they should count themselves lucky that they are not facing a 6 or 12 point deduction.

I'm pretty sure the rule is to announce your squad at noon, 2 days before the fixture.

I can't see any announcement and I'm fearing another 24-0 walkover.

Not sure I follow the criticism of their academy in this. If they're self isolating they can't be brought into the first team. In face Saints' academy had a similar issue a couple of weeks back postponing an academy game after a single positive Covid test and they wouldn't have been able to play first team either had they been needed.

I'd be more inclined to question their investment in conditioning in this case given the types of injuries they're reporting (four hamstrings for example seems a bit more than just bad luck).

True, just a general swipe from me that they dont produce players since daryl powell took over as head coach and not relevant here..

Cas forfeit their game against Saints because they can't raise a team. Injuries in the first team and the entire academy squad are isolating due to two positive covid results.

No one want to play us or what? That's three off in the last month. Getting ridiculous now.

All clubs should be deducted 2 points every fixture they fail to fill when they are the guilty party and then perhaps that will focus thei minds

I haven’t a scooby doo what your point B is all about but on C,how can they promote their youth if they are all self isolating ?

If you read the press release it will make sense, I am not prepared to spell it out for you if you cannot comprehend basic English..

Personally i  think covid is an excuse in some cases now ,it's the easy option , you can bet NONE of them will have covid on the days up to and including the final.

There’s no issue with their Facebook site as the posted something after noon.

also they have just this afternoon signed a Warrington player on loan Ellis Robson.

would suggest to me they can’t field 17 or name a team. If that’s the case much like Cas the consistency would be they forfeit.

Unless they’ve been allowed dispensation to ‘find’ players.

except there are protocols that you have to follow and if you have an outbreak i believe PHE can get themselves involved to check your procedures etc.. its not worth lying about as the intervention can be pretty tough and can end up badly for you if you are not careful (assuming the clubs are subject to the same as companies are, which i am pretty sure they are as workplaces)

Thats taking away the fact that you have to send the RFL proof to be able to call the game off for covid reasons.

Seems that Salford delayed announcing their squad so they could get Robson over the line.

is that not a breach and do they not lose a substitution?

I thought the rule was to announce at noon 2 days prior.

glad it’s going ahead but still you can’t not adhere to rules to avoid a penalty of losing a sub by playing a player not named in initial squad.

also Salford announced Inu?? Thought they banned him internally for some time.

Don’t think Warrington would forfeit any game, last season 7 players had to isolate so they played the kids.
