NRL planning biggest event in Rugby League history

"The biggest event in RL History"

I hope that's hyperbole on the part of Foxsport. A certain meeting at the George Hotel in 1895 comes to mind. Also the 1907-08 tour from down under. This may be an important move by RL or a complete fizzer. Let's see.

It takes wisdom to know when a discussion has run its course.

It takes reasonableness to end that discussion.

Our World Cup in two years time is holding on by its fingertips to take place while a club comp is being talked about as the biggest event ever staged.

We deserve what we get as a global sport.

There was a substantial thread on this a couple of months back, there were several updates issued that it was all progressing, talls were positive, it was going to be a 5 year deal, no way was this just a free jolly to Las Vegas etc.

Then about a month ago, it all went silent and we haven't heard a thing since. In about 6 months, expect a story that the 2025 NRL season is going to be launched in the USA, probably Hawaii, it will be amazing, bring millions into the game, talks are advanced, we have a vital fact finding mission lined up...

The last thing I can remember reading was from some wing of the NRL-fluffer press that said details would be announced by the end of June.

Sounds sensible, getting the Aus Govt involved would reduce the cost burden for the NRL.

IMO Hawaii would be the best US State to take a game to.

The Polynesian population would get behind Tonga, Samoa, Fiji etc

Possibly, although it's Australian domestic teams and not international ones. I'm not aware of any NRL fanbase in Hawaii but realise you could promote the strong PI player numbers to generate a decent crowd.

Beyond gameday attendance though, would Hawaii benefit the game in the US more than using Vegas would? Possibly a mute point, as the primary NRL driver here is just gambling money, hence using Vegas as a platform for this venture. There is zero evidence the NRL are doing it to grow the game, although that may hopefully happen as an unintended consequence.
