Anglian Vipers, Bedford Tigers and Goole Vikings reveal their cases for League One place

Coventry Bears have junior girls and boys up to u16 as well as a women's team. Midlands Hurricanes who now have the league 1 licence have a women's team but no junior development.

I think junior development for Midlands Hurricanes is to support the existing community clubs in the midlands like Coventry, get into schools, run coaching courses and eventually set up an academy or midlands representative team

Do Goole do the same sort of thing as unlike the Viper they have no junior sections?

I doubt it but because of their location they have Hull, Wakefield/Castleford and Leeds on their doorstep so plenty of community clubs within 30 mins

  • 3 weeks later...

Anglian Vipers have defaulted this weekend. They cannot raise a team.

They were due to play Telford Raiders in the semi final of the Harry Jepson Trophy.

That does not seem like a team with ambition to me

Not a good look for a team that wants to join League 1

This is extremely  disappointing. The Hemel Stags team - average age 19, all of whom have come through the London Junior League - although well beaten by the Vipers in the East Grand Final at their home ground 2 weeks ago would have been delighted to have taken Vipers place against Telford if sufficient notice had been given.

Testing times for the sport in the South, again.

That's a shame.

My money is anyway on Bedford they seem to have a food structure.

Good luck to all 🙂

after match scran is important I agree but you cannot build a league one club purely on that surely..

To state the facts, the Vipers could raise a team to travel to Telford but due to injuries to a significant number of regular first team players not enough of them had played the required number of league games to be eligible for the HJ cup.

Goole seem to have the strongest case for me. Decent ground, growing junior set up and, importantly, ready access to players of sufficient quality to be competitive.

You could have just said "they're Northern" 😂

True though. Have to confess a bias here as if accepted they're very likely to have a duel reg relationship with Doncaster as they're under our development system.

That doesn't make sense.

They could either raise a ream or they couldn't.

If you are saying they could raise a team but they wouldn't have been competitive on the field, it would have shown as a club they were fulfilling their commitment.

As at is implying they are only prepared to play if they can win.If that is the case then they will be  in for a shock when they play for semi pro teams.

Like I said, the Vipers have a lot of injuries to their normal first team. Despite that they could and did still get a team together to go to Telford but due to the rules of the HJ Cup too many of those were ineligible as they hadn’t played enough league games. So the club therefore couldn’t field an eligible team despite having enough willing players.

What are the actual rules? I was under the impression that any registered players could play.

Not upto speed on any of this but I’d love to see clubs from Bolton, Preston and maybe a Liverpool team.

that being said goole would be a good bridge between east and West Yorkshire and possibly north Lincolnshire .

They could raise a team, but the players they could raise were ineligible to play.

The way the story has been painted is that they just don't have enough players in their squad to fulfil the fixture, which is clearly not true.

From my own personal biased view, I'd like to see Goole pretty much for that reason. There's no Championship or League 1 clubs near Hull for at least an hour. This could be useful to the local players to gain experience as well as another club for casual supporters in Hull to visit. I know I'd try and get to the odd game.

Yeah, hull is pretty isolated from say York and West Yorkshire.

goole is perfectly situated between hull, Doncaster, West Yorkshire and even north Lincolnshire.
