Sat 24th-Sun 25th Aug: The Betfred Championship Match Thread

Recommended Posts

Widnes 35 Sheffield E 20 FT Att 2486

Three tries for the Eagles in the space of less than 10 minutes in the second half, but Widnes were pretty comfortable after that.

Some terrible kick-offs in the wind - Widnes had two go dead, Sheffield had one go dead and two fail to make ten metres.

Well done to all those involved in that win. Great result considering the circumstances, lets hope Haven can build on that and get over their problems.

Congratulations to all the staff at Wakey on winning the league leaders shield. Not been in much doubt for a while but still a great achievement with so many games to spare.

Great atmosphere behind the sticks today and I enjoyed my visit back to Fax after a number of years.

No, just the home games

Yes looks like Fev are hitting a bit of form at the right time. Championship GF at Belle Vue against Wakey would be a packed house with a fantastic atmosphere.

And it would be classic Featherstone if we went and won it now that promotion is no longer available.

This is rugby league, the rules could have changed by then

I second that, great effort from the Cumbrians and a massive shout out to Kyle Amor for making it happen 👏

Gutted not to be there but was gonna cost £140 with nearly 8 hours travelling. Spoke to my Dad and we both agreed looked a disappointing following, from that stand on twitter unless there were more in other stands which may of been the case. You reckon 7-800 possibly? Good win nevertheless.

Massive news. Game in general is on its arris. Team on 1.2 - 1.5 million pound playing budget win 1895 cup and League leaders shield yippee.

Slightly helped by Dale Ferguson getting himself sent off in the first half.

Aye I seen that, been playing for some time now Dale. Remember speaking to him in a bar in Perpignan about 2009 when playing for Trin. We supposter cool down when we get older as the saying go's but he's a Pontefract man like me, like Zak Hardaker...we're all Knuts lol 😆

A great day out yesterday. My first time going to Halifax, a cracking ground (compared to some Iol). I know it ended up being a bit of a blow out but I thought fax threw some good shape at us. I'm surprised their where they are in league tbh.

I reckon we were unlucky not to get a couple more on the board but you make your own luck.

Olpherts, what **** standing over the ball and refusing to throw it to the ball boy. I know the lad, he’s a cracking little player, should have middled him

Bulls continuing their patchy form with a wretched 60mins, but some resilient defence and 10 min burst enough to get a crucial win. A point off second but still very close to dropping out of the play-offs all together unless our performances improve!

Dewsbury next week should be another two points to put pressure on Toulouse ahead of their game against the Eagles. Some big names to come back from injury in the coming weeks which should hopefully see an improvement on performances.

Made himself look a bit of a tool when he did that.

I watched the game back on the video and the resolution's not good enough to be sure but I reckon Aston can't have actually touched the ball for the first of his ten metre failures.  It just didn't go far enough - it was literally lying a foot from the tee.  It just fell off the tee in the wind.

What's the rule there?  Is it like golf - an air shot still counts as a shot?

Anyway - it wasn't our day.

Aston appeared to have that same discussion with Scott Mikalauskas. Although as he was penalised 10 metres for it, I assume his question was phrased a little less politely.

Just watched the Barrow  v Swinton highlights. Quite a few talking points, but arguably the most amusing was the referee awarding a try when all 26 players appeared to be preparing for the next play-the-ball! It's around 1:10 on the video.

It was a strange one.
