All the best to the lad, really enjoyed watching him play, and he comes across as a proper gent and true professional

Really bad news for the poor fella and the Giants who look to be a whole lot of trouble with a diminishing squad, Real shame for there supporters as they looked on track for a good season.

Always sad when a player has to retire before his time.

With the best, thats a good bit of PR, though I would say the Bedford team, theres, like, you know, 13 blokes who can get together at the weekend to have a game together, which doesnt point to expansion of the game. Point, yeah go on!

I've always liked Luke, and this is sad news, as he still had a few very good years left in him if not for the injury. All the best for him in the future, whatever he ends up doing.

I must admit I feared it was a concussion type injury when this was first announced given the number of knocks he has taken. Glad it is not the case but still sad to see him retire through injury and hope he stays in the game with the Giants in some form

It's sad but I'm glad that Luke isn't struggling on. He looked pretty battered and jiggered last season but still brave. I hope the hip gets sorted. He has taken quite a few blows to the noggin, so I hope he is ok long term.

I have found him to be personable and ready to chat. Good luck to him.

Sad news. A genuine whole hearted professional who has been a credit to the Wigan and Huddersfield clubs. Always a big smile on his face when he has played. I remember- and forgive him- for his 3 tries he destroyed Saints with when he really burst into people's consciousness!

All the best Luke.

I think this is the match you mean. His contemporary, Kevin Brown, also did well that day.

Would like to think so - as long as he's not another Bobby Goulding. Any evidence that he is?

Luke as been a solid pro, never been in "trouble"...just got all the makings of a decent coach imo...its just a feeling i get with certain players....

Said the same about michael monaghan, currently number 2 at catalan...he'll be a top class coach one day

What an absolutely shame. He always comes across as the complete professional. Hopefully there is a role for him still within our game. I agree with those who have expressed that they feel he has the makings of a too coach one day.

I recall Nathan Brown calling him the bravest player he had ever met

At around that time there was a picture of his face stuck up around Halifax showing his face black and blue both eyes black and almost closed

He had to tell his mum it was just some idiot and told the press it was his usual face after a match

Huddersfield through and through now will be supported by the club and they are apparently looking at his next career path, while he has said he would like to stay there and work for them

He has always been loyal to the sides he has played for and I don't recall seeing him give anything other than 100% all the time regardless of where  he has been or who he played for and against and whatever the score was, consistent, brave, talented.

Good luck to him and if he does go for a coaches role he could do worse than learn from Baloo
