  1. The club and foundation do absolutely loads in schools and with local kids. I bet there’s not one kid in the city who hasn’t had a visit to their school.

  3. Just to add to this, I know Heworth in particular are doing loads to get kids involved in the game as well. I think they've got sixteen teams for 18s and under including 3 girls teams.

  6. The best thing is for supporters not to get involved in this kind of stuff. The comment I saw, was ill advised and given the clubs already been fined for similar, it’s stupidity to be making such comments.

  7. https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m001r9zl Back in November 2022, England played host to the Wheelchair Rugby League World Cup. The unflinching action and raw passion on display took many new fans by surprise, and as the tournament progressed, audience numbers - both in the stadiums and those watching on television - began to build in a moment of important visibility for the sport. This film tells the inside story of the world's two best wheelchair rugby league teams, England and France, with privileged access to each side's progress through the tournament towards a potential winner-takes-all meeting in the final. Following players from each squad both on and off the pitch also introduces us to the varied characters who play and coach this demanding sport, discovering the circumstances that brought them to the game and hearing about the often different philosophies they have on the subject of who should take part. Made of Steel is a story of grit, sacrifice and determination... but above all about a fierce sporting rivalry between two teams who were both intent on coming out on top. 9. Good luck to the lad, there might be some potential there but he is very raw and really we won’t miss him. I hope it works out for him.

  10. 1994. That was my first Broncos game. 27 years later I finally walked away. If I'm an "anti Broncos troll", like you say, then there are thousands of us out there. All of whom at one point considered that club to be an important part of their lives, none of whom now have anything to do with it. But sure, crack on and tell us about all the good things London Broncos are doing.

  11. For Old Trafford? Cheapest adult ticket is £30 5-16 year olds £15 If you are a family with very young kids it is £60 for the family £90 if kids are 16 That is an absolute bargain and I suspect no other major sporting final in the western world with a 60,000 attendance is any where near that cheap Not saying I'm unsympathetic to struggling families but compared to other sports RL is a really good sport to follow cheaply (unless like me you have to spend £50 on petrol and £100 on hotels each game!)

  12. I'm not sure that conditions which interfere in the market to the extent that any business (club) is protected from failure (relegation) simply because of their geographic location should be described as sensible. I am in favour of a level playing field (sorry Batley fans), where the rules apply to all clubs in exactly the same way. If that is the case and London can get the investment they need then that is fantastic for them. If under the same rules Featherstone can out compete London then all credit to them as well.

  13. Hopefully get Dan Toal back in the ranks and up to fitness as they play a similar game.

  14. As I see it there are two functions to the role of Fullback, one of them is the offensive side of which Welsby is excellent at, but on the defensive side young Jack is somewhat lacking in technique and he has produced quite a few howlers this season especially when an attacker is running directly at him, coming in from the side he is much better at with his speed he can run a man down. I said this earlier in the season and some Saints fans immediately went on the defensive stating that he is still young and will learn the role, if he does or doesn't at the monent it is definatley a chink in his armour.

  15. He's a bit old to be their new halfback isn't he?

  16. Very ignorant to call him “Garbage”, He has been on the of the best players in the world 5-6 years now and continues to dominate on every stage. Either your a south’s fan or just not very educated about rugby league.

  21. It’s the East Stand (capacity 3500 ish) that’s sold out. South Stand now on sale. I was really hoping the York marketing team would push the game a bit more and try and beat the Knights club record attendance of 4221 but I guess with it being an RFL event it’s on them. However if the East Stand genuinely has sold out then I think they can beat it regardless.

  22. Thanks for the reasonable reply. They've put a team together that are playing some good RL and beating some good teams. The head coach also seems great. That's really what i was getting at. It's not easy to do and they deserve credit for it, lots of established clubs in the heartlands struggle and London are doing a good job of it 200 miles away. The balance of a few top notch players from down under and a lot of local lads is working well. Take a look at this first team squad, where the players are from (particularly the English ones) and then say London aren't doing some good things for the game. Everyone on here's obsessed with London's attendances and stadium moves. Which are obviously bad but they also deserve some credit imo. https://londonbroncosrl.com/mens-first-team/ Players from Hitchin, MK, Suffolk, Berkhamsted, Tottenham, Northampton, Hemel, Surrey etc. etc. etc. Hitchin and Berkhamsted are two of the poshest, most middle class southern towns there are btw! Broncos are great for the game and need more support and less knocking by the "if only Skolars or Hemel had their funding" brigade.

  23. Where was the money men then? He was far from perfect but at least there was a club to takeover 26 years later. If you want to rubbish people, look at Jim Quinn and Co.

  25. Where was this consortium from 1997 onwards? Oldham Rugby League could have gone under then if it wasn't for CH, he is no angel but he did keep Pro rugby alive in Oldham.

  26. Football clubs have a far bigger pool of fans to sell to than any RL club. As such Football games are much more spread out amongst a far larger fanbase where as a RL club is much more dependent on the same fans going to all games At a guess to illustrate the point an RL club like Wigan may have 20k casual fans that may go every season to get a 14k average. Someone like Man Utd may average 70k+ but could probably sell tickets to millions of different people every year.

  27. He certainly knew how to take a penalty! No stuttering run up for him, just a fast 10 yards and hammer it. It worked nearly every time. Thanks for the memories, Franny.

  29. If we're looking at this from commercial growth POV, it's mental that Super League finds itself in a position where it's down to fortune as to whether London (population: 8,776,535) will be in its elite comp or Featherstone (population: 18,086). Just get them in and leave them in, then investors will come along. I mean, WTF are we doing here?

  30. Again, football games arranged at short notice get large crowds and always have. It’s the culture of RL that’s the reason, not money or logistics.

  32. Should we do a text search for those saying IMG have had more than enough time - despite the whole process not really kicking in until 2024 into 2025 and everything before then being foundation laying - and then overlay it with one of people saying that rugby league's problem is constantly expecting quick wins, never giving things enough time, expecting miracles, tinkering after tinkering, believing in "if you play it, people will come" etc etc

  34. Indeed. What on earth are they playing at? They've had over a year to rescue the game from itself.

  35. Too busy saving up for the £11.40 open return. Football teams in the poorer Northern towns don’t struggle for crowds (Burnley being a great example, also Preston, Blackpool, Bradford City etc) so I don’t understand the rationale on this forum that RL is played in poor areas and people can’t afford one ticket on top of their ST. It’s more of a cultural thing that RL fans don’t go to extra games.

  37. Yeah, I mean I get why so many Rovers fans are coming and if we're in the play offs for the next few years I wouldn't expect the same number to travel, but I find non-attendance for a home play off semi-final as really weird. It's not like Wigan have won the Grand Final in the last few years, this season is your best shot in ages! Hopefully it won't be as bad, like you say, it's not like you need to buy far in advance if you're a home fan. Fingers crossed.

  40. Hull KR forecasting sell-out of their Wigan allocation, already at 4,000… https://www.hulldailymail.co.uk/sport/rugby-league/hull-kr-tickets-wigan-playoff-8797472 On the Wigan forum it seems like they’re expecting a poor turn out of home fans though - a case of familiarity breeding contempt? If they’re saving up for the final then I hope we spoil their over-confident plans!

  41. Between Montpellier and Marseille. Montpellier is a nice place though as is Marseille after a lot of work! TBF the area that Paul mentions would be a ‘must see’. From Isle sur Tet you can visit les Orgues and also drive up to Villefranch du Conflent and take the Petit train Jaune up to the Spanish border. Or drive and go to the outdoor baths at Thomas le Bains. After that, on the same route, up to Font Romeu (used to play golf in comps sometimes up there). Andorra ain’t too far away then! North of I-sur-Tet, StPaul de Fenouillet drive to Gorges de Gallimus, visit Peyrepretreuse, Qeribus and Tautavel. Our favourite always wa and always will be down from St. Cyprien, Port Vendres, Paullilles, Banyuls, Cebere and Port Bou. Paul would’ve sneaked across the border during Covid on that route or from Jonquera to Banyuls. Swimming in Paullilles is like being in a fish tank. Also it’s an old dynamite works which has been preserved. If you go to Banyuls and like walking, you can take roughly the same route across to the Spanish border, psst the refuge and towards Jonquera. This is the route Airey Neave took down on his escape journey from Colditz. enough?

  43. NRL averaged over 20k per match this year, with 6 clubs averaging above the season average. Dolphins ranked second. Record season, absolutely smashing the previous best average in 2010 by 3,000 per match, up by approx 18% on that season.

  45. I used to be very blaise about this sort of thing Then the top flight union side that I used to watch in the RL off season suddenly no longer existed It went from 8000 enthusiastic fans week in a great shiney stadium to nothing.....just like that. No phoenix club nothing I can't see any reason it couldn't happen to a SL club....hope I'm wrong

  46. After Derek's announcement at the weekend maybe Pearson could move Hull FC over to Mr Beaumont's new Ultimate-Sooper-Dooper League competition in South Africa? Might give the 'big club' a decent chance of their first league title in 40 years
