Friend who's just started a commercial drone business reckons it's a max 5 year prison sentence plus civil damages - and likely to be at the maximum end of the scale if they catch whoever did it.

The five year sentence was also mentioned by a Gatwick spokesman on Radio 4 this morning.

A friend of mine was due to fly into Gatwick today to spend Christmas with his family.  His flight was cancelled and he's been told he's probably not going to make it back due to all the other flights at this time of year being quite busy already.  He was told airlines are prioritising repatriating people and because he's already "home" then he's not on that priority list.

It's clearly no kid doing it as according to the news it's not being blocked by the frequency blocking of approved drone radio frequencies in the UK. It's someone who has fitted a custom comms kit and although not too technically complex it is still not a complete amateur's job.

I really do hope the humourless folk in non-descript black suits find the drone flyer and accidentally ram that drone somewhere painful when interviewing them and making them choose between lengthy jail time or repaying the costs to the airport, airline and passengers who are impacted.  Set an example hard and early.

Some of the theories I've seen bouncing around range from it being an environmental protest group to anti-noise protesters to someone trying to ensure their mother-in-law doesn't arrive.

I think some high end drones can follow pre-programmed routes, so if that is true,  jamming is not a solution

That stinks.

At my new job, they shut down completely this afternoon 'til 2019, so even militant atheists can't get into the building. And management also went to the local bakery and bought pastries for everyone who worked up to the end of the week.

At a previous job, we had stocktaking between Christmas and New Year, and everybody had to attend - no exceptions!

I work in a hospital, so is never going to close completely. Just a bit of poor communication in the team about who I doing what, given their has to be one of the 3 of us in each day.

I used to work for an NHS Trust, in Hastings, and the day on return after Christmas, the Annual leave book was already full of people requesting Christmas day off the following year, amazingly these lazy @r5ed people were management, who hadn't worked for 10 years, they didn't all get it., but it angered a lot of people who hadn't worked Christmas day for 10 years, ie, lower management.

We have a fairly equitable policy and always have. That said, I wouldn't work Christmas day anyway, being in finance. My sympathies to those that do, unless they want to that is!

where i used to work........granted there was only 20 of us ............we used to have a draw every year , first person out could either book a day they desperately needed or a block of days that covered their summer hols . Then we just worked down the list .You can`t argue with a random draw .

If there is a problem remove it . Get a marksman in from the army and take the drone out , 5 mins and back to normal .

Going through the self service checkout yesterday (not the 8 items or less). Dickhead behind me almost on top of us, huffing and puffing as if we were taking ages (we weren't). So I got out some vouchers I had and deliberately put them in the machine real slow just to annoy him. #####.

If he hadn't have been a bit on the old side, he'd have got a right mouthful.

The season is bringing out the best in people. Some dilbert in Tesco yesterday ranting to the hardworking staff about how it was their fault that none of the self service machines were working. He'd managed to wreck three by being a total asshat and wouldn't have it that maybe, just maybe, as everybody else was fine there might be a problem with him slamming down his items and then just randomly jabbing buttons until the till couldn't cope with his items any more.

Coming down from Ainley Top towards Halifax the A629 is a dual carriageway, at the Halifax end it merges into one.

There are signs, “use both lanes” and then “merge in turn”, how difficult can it be to comply with those two simple instructions?

We have a bit of road down the A12 in Essex that goes two lanes to three and then back to two about a couple of miles later.  Cars in the left lane when it’s two lanes immediately (and usually without indicating) go into the middle lane when it goes to three and then refuse to move back over when the right hand lane merges into it, even if the left hand lane is empty.

A pox of pustulent boils on their backsides for eternity.

People who see a bus lane and move to the outside lane completely ignoring the time's it's in operation, it's nearly as annoying as those who think it's there own private lane to use as they wish?

If anyone is not sure about the excesses of British media, have a look at this disgraceful intrusion into the lives of people who are wholly innocent of any crime.  It's currently headline news on the Mail's website.

Not a single word of apology for their disgraceful front page coverage of them.

Absolute filth.

They've comments from and pictures of their home, family, ex-wife, employer, neighbours, address and almost everything that anyone with an irrational grudge would need to do something very stupid.

I have seen bus drivers sitting in queues while the bus lane is next to them empty, when I have questioned it, they say they are ahead of time, so are slowing down.

I was working on Friday (Man with a Van assistant) and coming back around the M25 there was an incident, where someone's trailer tyre had burst and spread tyre all over the 3rd & 4th lanes, the gantry indicators were telling us "Debris on Road" and closed the two outer lanes, and a 30MPH speed limit on the other three, but there was still numpties roaring past in the closed lanes doing 60-70MPH, the Motorway Service guys must have been Clapping* themselves clearing that on a late Friday afternoon. Then we had an Eddie Stobart Lorry in the ditch, overturned, and shed it's load, blocking the A21 just North of Hastings.

Auto renewals on RAC cover...

I have been a bit lax with just letting it auto renew, this year saw a £50 increase from last to £210, is I thought that was a bit steep to say the least!  Called them up, and said I wanted to cancel.  They straight away offered me 15 months cover for the £210.  Thats still too steep (especially in January!).  So I turned it down, mentioned I could be a new member of the AA for £125, and the instant reply was OK, we don't want you to go, how about £119 and the 15 months cover.

So for the price of a phone call I get £90 off and 3 extra months.  I could have probably got a bit more if I had actually haggled a bit!  Loyalty should be rewarded, not exploited.

With the best, thats a good bit of PR, though I would say the Bedford team, theres, like, you know, 13 blokes who can get together at the weekend to have a game together, which doesnt point to expansion of the game. Point, yeah go on!

Drivers that don't merge as they should is a real bug bear of mine. It is quite funny how otherwise rational people can turn into selfish, possessive maniacs when behind a steering wheel.
