Wayne Bennett 'A disgrace'

Recommended Posts

I am no Bennett hater and was very happy when he got the job. However as the national coach, in my opinion, he does have an obligation to promote the game, particularly when RL gets so few chances to do so in the media. I totally agree with the general tone about the performance etc but the one and two word answers were terrible and does nothing for a game that struggles to get any recognition from the media.

He's always been a miserable sod.

Give me a cheerful, media-savvy, coaching failure every time I say.

Sport, amongst other things, is a dream-world offering escape from harsh reality and the disturbing prospect of change.

Benny has been bluffing.

Close loss to NZ.

Unconvincing win against Scotland.

He is a master tactician that gets the best out of so so players, has done his whole career..

He will unleash his masterclass against Australia on the weekend...

Talent is secondary to whether players are confident.

Ultimately he will be judged on results, but if we lose badly next week then this tournament will have been a complete failure for England and his behaviour will be questioned even more.

Alternatively we beat the Aussies by 12 or more and he is a hero.

Let's evaluate at the end of the 4N as we can look a bit silly writing him off now and then celebrating him next week.

Coaches must always and only be judged on results otherwise Shaun Wayne would have been out of Wigan years ago. ;)

Bennett makes Clint Eastwood's man with no name look chatty. That's just his personality, and I'd hate to see him try to be Mr Congeniality, because that'd be excruciatingly fake.

Punditry... no class in badmouthing a stoic winner, its not like Mr Bennet has changed his demeanour...glass houses and stones comes to mind...At least one of the pundits has Total Fail on his own resume...pity he has forgotten what it felt like when he was under the cosh...

The best thing he can do to grow the game is win. Everything else is secondary

But if I had to go to Coventry in November I'd be fairly gloomy

Whoever was given the coaches job it was and is a difficult situation to have been put in. That is with so few games prior to next World Cup, let alone this tournament.   We are and continue to be the third best team with major areas to be improved to take us consistently closer to top two.  I don't understand how any one could expect us to be so much better than we are.  Gosh I guess we have forgotten Italian game.

The idea of Bennet is to identify and improve key area's. That takes time. In the mean-time I guess you play to your strengths.  For us its our forwards, not our half-backs.   We need so much more possession than NZ and Aussies to occasional breach a good international defence.  Its fortunate we have a competitive forwards group that can give us that extra possession that we so manfully squander.

NZ & Aussies are already at a higher level that they can bring in a new coach without severely impacting team. Never-the-less expected to take them on to a new level.

The new England coach, whomever was chosen, needed to have been given last years tour to begin influencing the team.  We do make things as difficult as possible.

Since the start of the 2013 Rugby league World Cup England have played Australia or New Zealand eight times.  We may have only won two of these games but the average scoreline across the eight games is England 16 points and the opposition 16.5.  These games are very competitive.
