Season of the fake

I wouldn’t disagree with that I just don’t like the punishing of genuine injured players. I think it’s a dangerous road to go down.

I thinks that’s fair enough Bob, but if they are seriously injured, don’t they need to go off anyway?  We’re never going to stop a player not fully disclosing his injury either, if he wants to stay on.

The RFL and the game itself need to find a way to make coaches react, in such a way, so that they stop this feigning at source.

We’ve seen players playing on with  injuries that would wipe most of us out for weeks. Broken eye sockets, cheek bones and even arms. Which is fine if they’ve been assessed and the Doctor/physio have said they aren’t going to do themselves further injury. What we’d be doing is encouraging these players to not stay down with a injury as it will harm the team. Players who have clearly shown they are capable of blocking pain out if needed. I don’t think it’s beyond the realms of possibility that a player could play on with a neck injury that he shouldn’t be.

I’m a little baffled on how we would be encouraging players not to stay down.  Who would realistically do that if they were seriously injured.

Coaches & Players are already encouraging them to stay down now and they are - but they aren’t injured.  It’s this issue that we should be focussing on as well as the backchat to waste time, stepping forward of the mark  etc etc etc.

The bravehearts aren’t really the problem.  Like boxers and others, they signed up for a game which may cause very serious injury.  Coaches, doctors and physios are not fools.  Its very rarely in their interests to allow a player to play on.

I agree this is frustrating but if we bring a rule were players sustaining a neck injury have to leave the field. Are we not in danger of encouraging crusher tackles.

Not if the penalty for being guilty of it is harsh enough, deliberate, then out to end of season, even if its the first game of the season.

Not to mentioned the odd ruptured testicle.

I think, if they haven't done it already, the RFL need to give advice and a mandate to all referees, to cut down on the penalty awarding when players dive about, trap defenders arms trying to make it look like they're holding on, etc.

I think we can stop the neck rubbing overnight if we bring in a rule that any player looking to have sustained a neck injury has to leave the field for assessment.

The other play acting stuff will have to be left to the ref's discretion and I worry about how gullible some of them are.

Sadly, cheating now appears to be an epidemic.

Agree about the player going off. If a neck injury is suspected, like a head injury, this is potentially very serious. If a head/neck injury is suspected, then it needs proper medical diagnosis.

Head injuries need to be checked carefully.  Players generally realise almost instantly if someone is seriously injured. Swallowing the tongue is dangerous and needs quick action.

But really...  This whole thread is a cheat.  It's mostly a load of whinging cobblers and out of date anyway thanks to the shot clock.

The shot clock didn't stop the theatrics on Thursday night.

Moors got specialist attention.  The physio put a neck brace on.  Then took it off again and the player ran about.  But, note, I didn’t bring him into this as he could’ve got a hit on his backside which caused neck pain/sensations.  We aren’t to know.

My gripe is that players faking to get penalties is plain wrong.  IMO we’re stuck with the leg\arm trapping and will have to rely on the Refs judgement.

Im a realist and we can’t stop it all, but fake accusations, flailing about as if you’ve been shot etc are blatant cheating in plain view and have to stop.

It’s a bit naive to think players in a fully professional sport won’t try every trick in the book to gain an advantage. That’s not to say I’m condoning the cheating. If you want to rely on the players and coaches to do the right thing you’ll have a very long wait on your hands.

You don’t know me mate and I’m far from naive.

Aaron Murphy performed a backward somersault that Tom Daley would have been proud of earlier this evening.

This world was never meant for one as beautiful as me.

Shenton joins the list.

Unfortunately, as I thought he was England’s answer at centre before cruel injuries. Fakers have no place on the pitch and it’s got to stop.

Whilst I do not disagree about Shenton's pathetic dive, think Miloudi should get an honourable mention too, like fish in a rubber net that boy.

Fair enough Dave.  I didn't see that but he's prone to waving about.

Literally the only penalty we won all game for interference in the ruck though, despite Catalans flopping on all game (or in one case, dragging a player into touch after the tackle was completed)

Might help if those playing the ball were made to play it on the mark too.

An addition to fake injuries may have to be claims of an injury from biting. I thought after the failed attempt in the World Cup on Mcgillvary that it would die a death but we may have seen a return in  Fridays Sky game. The replay appeared not to support the accusation, it will be interesting to see the result of the hearing.

Another thing that winds me up is whoever is at hooker passing the ball into an opposition player who is on the floor near the PTB. I thought it had been ruled out but I've still been seeing it.

This is my biggest pet peeve. If the defending player is caught behind the line and they make no attempt to play the ball or interfere with the pass then it shouldn't be a penalty if the hooker decides to throw the ball at them while retreating instead of passing to a teammate.

Briscoe at Leeds is probably the worst offender in the league for this. Last year the refs had a short spell of eith penalising players constantly for moving off the mark or stopping play to make them go back & play it again. The enforcement seemed to be quickly forgotten though and certain players are back doing it more then ever.

I don't think its a major issue so long as it doesn't make the defence have to go any further back. Shortening the 10m only benefits the defence.

Wingers being used early in sets to kickstart the attack and gain quick ruck speed is the reason for this, its coached at every level.

Its not so much the moving forward as the refs usually just shout "you shortened the 10, play on". Briscoe more often than not steps to the side and the markers then get called offside, giving the next ball carrier extra time before they reach the defensive line.
