He said ''Rugby Union?'' I said ''some''. He said ''You've never seen an angry man then?''
creditwhereitsdews
Incredibly sad news. Was Dewsbury's coach when I became a fan aged around 13 and have fond memories of passively smoking his cigars while stood behind the dugout at Crown Flatt. He turned around our team of the late 1980s into one that toppled some fairly big teams of the time - Wakefield, St Helens, Halifax - while playing some champagne rugby and putting on extravagant set-piece moves. Enjoyed reading his match reports and books after he retired. A man who did a lot for the sport he loved.

Leeds Wire
I went on one his coaching camps when I was a young lad and he made a big impression on me. He was engaging and funny yet commanded respect with his very presence. R.I.P. to a legend of our sport.
Wolford6
His stints on Radio Leeds as colour commentator alongside Ron Hill were fantastic. Condolences to his family. Under Scrutiny by the Right-On Thought Police
bamfordsbeans
RIP Maurice. It was his achievements at Halifax in the late 70's that really got me interested in the sport. He turned a team that had not won a game all season into the base of the successful side of the 80's. The signings of players such as Blacker,Langton and Loxton made a significant impact and brought the crowds back to Thrum Hall.
bamfordsbeans
Also would like to add that the pre-match meal was baked beans. At a Dave Callon testimonial event,my brother asked a question via Keith Macklin to Dave-what did it smell like in the scrums?

Roy Boy
RIP Maurice Taught me to count to three before throwing a punch as I'd have more chance of landing it on the mark with a few seconds composure! Rugby man through and through. Money can't buy you happiness! It can buy you beer and that's a bit like happiness in a glass! "I like pigs. Dogs look up to us. Cats look down on us. Pigs treat us as equals." Sir Winston Churchill Some folks are wise and some are otherwise! Tobias Smollett "I distrust camels, and anyone else who can go a week without a drink." Joe E Lewis "Look at the ffing state of that"! My mate on the Avenue last Friday whilst pointing to a scantily clad young lady and spitting a mouthful of beer out! Reverend Ram
Very saddened to hear of this but it does recall one of our finest hours in drawing at Knowsley Road 12 all when we were a D2 outfit, and Saints were lucky to draw - a great motivator. Trojan
Peter Fox and Maurice Bamford within a few weeks of one another. An era of the game is ending. Very sad. He lived in my home town. Used to drink in the bar at Morley RUFC. Last time I saw him was in the chippy about 10 years ago. “Few thought him even a starter. There were many who thought themselves smarter. But he ended PM, CH and OM. An Earl and a Knight of the Garter.” Clement Attlee.
