Excuse my ignorance as I've never been to any RL ground in the UK, but there seemed to be no parking around the stadium. Did I see that correctly and if so, not a problem I assume.

Some people walk or get public transport but otherwise people just find places to park nearby, if you know what you're doing it works fine. Most grounds in the UK are like this, Belle Vue might actually have a bit more space around it than other grounds. My own team's ground at Headingley is hopelessly and loveably landlocked on all sides.

But I bet many people on here will have found a place or area they like to park in at stadia they attend frequently. And I find it's often easier to get away when you're parked in surrounding streets rather than one huge stadium car park everyone is trying to squeeze out of.

The late Dave Hadfield commented that when Wigan were at Central Park, where there was only street parking, within a quarter of an hour of the end of the game he could be half way to the motorway, whereas after the first game at the Brick (as it now is) it took him nearly an hour just to get out of the car park!

Most older grounds in the UK, RL, Football or Union, are situated in suburban areas. Where there is a lot of parking (relative to other stadia) it is usually retrospective ie Elland Road with the former pitches and other buildings behind being flattened. US style massive Stadiums with huge parking lots is anathema to the UK model of sport I suppose.

Even when brand new Stadiums have been built in the UK, parking facilities doesn't always seem to be a huge factor.

In this day and age I think it would be frowned on encouraging people to drive like that anyway and huge parking lots are just a waste of money compared to other revenue generators. In the US the car is obviously king and many of those large stadiums are out of town with plenty of land available. I can never see an equivalent happening in the UK.

True. Everyone seems to want to park as near to a stadium as humanly possible when what you really should be doing is finding somewhere 10-15 minutes walk away. Easily done if you do a bit of homework on Google Maps.

A mate of mine from Leeds showed me a great place to park. 10 minutes away up in leafy suburbia. Park up beyond the top of Headingley Mount and hen let the White Rose floodlights be your guide: It was where his mother lived at the time.

Bit of a trudge back up the hill but no harm in a little exercise. Much better than the cramped dead end terrace hell around the stadium itself.

Agreed and there's likely to be a public transport support element to our planning now.

Actually compared to most trad U.K. stadiums BV has a sizeable carpark at the front. 200 spaces I believe.

Not a lot I admit but there are some new build stadiums that aren’t much better, Warrington springs to mind.

However what saves them both is that they are close to the city centre with plenty of buses and carparks etc. Even when we had 11000 against Cas in 2006 it wasn’t gridlock, there was room enough.

Well unless you have extremely difficulty walking, I believe using stadium car parks is a mugs game. In the past I have been stuck for very long periods trying to get out of the ones at Wigan, Hull ,Salford and Huddersfield.

10 to 15 mins walk away from the stadium and a quick get away, is my choice.

I remember the 1998 Second Test at what was then the Reebok Stadium. Hours of carnage trying to get out of that stadium car park, never seen anything like it. Learned a harsh lesson that day both on what to do at that place with a full crowd and about out-of-town stadia generally.

I'll never forget Angela Powers' stadium rankings feature on Sky Sports where she gave Warrington top marks for access/parking, despite saying there was no car parking near the stadium, but because she knew where to get the park & ride from it wasn't an issue. 🤣

Pretty sure the next episode she gave Hull zero marks for baby changing facilities (even though we had plenty of them) because she couldn't find them so assumed we had none.

AH yes, I had almost forgot about the days of Angela and her baby changing facilties. I think IMG have missed a trick with not awarding marks for that.

Yeah, Warrington don’t need their own car park (though they do lease some spaces for corporates) there must be 3,000 car parking spaces within around half a mile of the ground, I’m probably underestimating and I’m not including on street parking.

Bus station and train station 1/4 of a mile away. Initially before the current site was agreed it was looking like a site near the old Burtonwood Airbase just off the M62 around 4 miles outside the town centre - so glad we ended up where we did.

She didn't half boil some p*** with those rankings.

Anyway, great to see the goings on at Wakey. To the extent that someone posted a CGI pic a page or two back of the future work and nobody batted an eyelid. Looking forward to visiting next year.

I can confirm 30+ less sales for Scotland vs Italy at Workington, after this afternoons test purchase for the Tonga match, £7.50 is extremely reasonable, however a £2.50 'delivery' fee for a walk in purchase is beyond taking the mickey, good luck with that, it's cheaper on the telly.

It's because we have new money problems at Trinity now...

We have so much money, we don't know what to build next!

What a problem to have.

Wait 'til you see the plans for the new shop/cafe.

It appears she's a lecturer now in news and sports journalism at UCLan. Hope this isn't part of any modules 😬

Getting out of Huddersfield's car park is a nightmare. It's like wacky races. I actually saw someone ram another car trying to get out.

You're not kidding. You also have to wait at least half an hour after the match ends for the starter to wave his flag.

The simple answer for visitors to the MKM is to use the park and ride facility. No cost for parking and just a bus fare to pay.

I am very much looking forward to seeing the plans for the shop/cafe.

I did half expect it would be used as a gym for player performance.
