Glass Half Full

Recommended Posts

There's plenty to be despondent about in the state of the game, from the declining TV revenues to the state of the international calendar.

However, in spite of this, there are some really positive developments across the whole of the English/French game:

  • Wigan - new ownership, greater collaboration with the football team, development and commercialisation of Robin Park
  • Hull KR - impressive BoD, development of Craven Streat, ownership and future development of surrounding land
  • Leeds - largest sponsorship deal ever signed
  • Oldham - new ownership group, new £1m training facility asset which can be commercialised and return to Boundary Park
  • Wakefield - new ownership and further stadium development plans
  • Castleford - new investor and stadium development plans gaining traction
  • Cornwall - tie up with Truro and move to new stadium
  • Midlands - move to the new Alexander stadium
  • Sheffield - investment and proposed move into new stadium with Sheffield FC
  • Toulouse - new investor and plans for new purpose built stadium
  • Catalan - stadium expansion and development plans
  • Huddersfield - new training complex complete
  • Keighley - stadium development
  • Warrington - perhaps 2024 will be their year

I’m glad someone has posted this. There’s a lot wrong in the sport, but there are definitely reasons to be (a bit) cheerful too.

OP lost credibility with last entry.

Speaking as a Widnes fan, the one bright spot in RL after the steady stream of bad news over the last four or five seasons has been the now approaching 70 years failure of Warrington to be league champions, so that definitely qualifies in the glass half full category for me 🙂

I think there is always something to like. For sanity, I try and focus on the parts I do enjoy. If I'm not enjoying the debate and discussion then I steer clear from here, if I'm not enkoying the events, I watch on tv, if I'm a bit bored of watching at home, I'll maybe turn it into a catch up with pals at the pub, if I'm off internationals I'll focus on club rugby and so on.

I'm pretty down on international RL at the moment, I'll focus on club rugby and it'll probably be on tv and the pub in the main.

There is always good stuff going on, and I think focusing on those things can help when you become disillusioned with parts of the game.

2 new names on the kit at Leigh and a record total sponsorship, great potential with Holland and Barrett. Season ticket sales approaching 5000 with the cheapest adult at £300 and corporate almost sold out - about 2300 last year. Some great signings to build the squad, Moylan looks a great one and settled well. One last one to come will it be Sailor??

Such positivity really should not be allowed on this forum! 🤔

Not according to Mr Lam

Lam also confirmed an enquiry for Tristan Sailor, son of dual code great Wendell Sailor.

But he doesn’t expect to recruit the speedy Brisbane Broncos back anytime soon.

“If there was a possibility of course we would be interested,” said Lam. “He is someone I have coached before and have a good working relationship with.

“I enquired about him in the last six to eight months but unless something changes within our dynamics as a group that’s all it was. We have a full house here at the moment.”

● Bradford. 2 new investors in the last 12 Months. Recently awarded an Elite Academy license. 5 new sponsors on board. Only part time club to have a Team at every level. Making the transition to FT easier. Attendances on the rise.
