12,058 at Saints on Friday night, a huge pat on the back for the contingent who travelled over from Cas i hope you didn’t get home too late.
The gate was down -1,978 on last years loop fixture. A few of the stay aways went the game just to see Mata’utia for the last time. I think there are a number of reasons the gates are down at Saints in 2024, people have less cash, all the matches on live tv. But i still think the tactics the coach has served up in two years is the main reason. Woolf’s tactics were dreadful but we were winning, it’s totally different when you’re losing and you have to watch the dross that has been served up.

Not sure you can blame lack of cash, football crowds are still booming at all levels.

Depends which demographic you are aiming at, RL traditionally has had one that contains more of those who struggle in the current economy.

Last season we only played Cas at home once (twice away) and the crowd was around 11,500

So has football, you can’t tell me that all the non league teams with booming attendances’ crowds are made up of wealthy people.

Genuine question here, are the supporters in Huddersfield falling out with the game?

When were they "in" it?

I don't know the club very well - only seen them play once at Headingley - but feels like they had nearly a decade of mediocre seasons now, and for some reason a brighter 2022 wasn't enough to reignite it. Almost better a relegation battle, a reset and a successful season like Wakey have just gone through to spark some enthusiasm than a series of 5th to 9th place finishes.

No, but likewise they are aiming at it with lower price points, and accounting for demand that can't be met elsewhere in sold out big clubs.

There's a growing consensus amongst some championship RL fans that £20 is just too much for a 2nd tier RL match. Again we come to the problem that our 2nd division is full of clubs who would be across levels 2 to 7 on the English Football pyramid. £20 probably is too much for some, but for others, it's probably the minimum they can charge to match their ambition.

Fridays game i think was one of those popular loopy fixtures, last season in our final loop fixture we played FC in front of 14,036. Cas was our second home loop fixture in 2024 which pulled in 12,058, (there didn’t look that many on for me but that was the official attendance).
I was told there has been a drop of around 1,300 per game from 2023. I don’t know how true that is as i have done zero research 😐

Mainly with the club but i suppose the 2 go hand in hand, the game itself is a shadow of what it was excitment wise even 15-20 years ago, that obviously means the Giants games have gone the same way, the stadium has harmed us as much as the on field performances as much though i'd say, a lot so say they stopped as the whole experience wasn't enjoyable anymore.

Hopefully the new stadium will change that.

Football does have the advantage of being the national sport and have a massive audience.
Our game on t’other hand is totally the opposite, poorly run, promoted, annd asking the same supporters to cough up cash.

the quality served up at Saints has been appalling. The fans i have spoken to (only a few by the way) have said “they need the cash to go towards bills instead of going watching Saints”. Perhaps if we wasn’t so Zzz boring too watch then they wouldn’t be saying that.

I like how a few aspirational comments from Davy about "a new stadium" has, in mere hours, become a "thing".

Already it's "the new stadium".

I do hope it happens though.

It's been talked about for a while now behind the scenes but obviously the club have now decided to make it public knowledge.

Wakey and Cas have talked about theirs for 20 years.

Talk is cheap.

Surely somewhere like Emley soccer is big enough for the Hudds club???

EDIT - sorry, just googled Emley's ground - it's not what I imagined it to be.

It's a vicious circle. If you keep price up to try and increase revenue, you lose some. Others in turn don't want to be there because there's too little atmosphere. Football comparison isn't necessarily helpful but to answer a point, top RL championship side is only comparable with top half of football championship in that it is a promtion away from the top flight. The crowd numbers are nowhere near, and so the atmosphere at the top team's home ground is more like being at a League 2 (4th level) game.

Emley's ground is a beauty, one of the best non league grounds in Yorkshire.

Are there any estimates floating around of what KR's attendance will be this round? Will the extra seating would push it to 11,500? If so, I'm thinking the final week's round will hopefully get somewhere near 60,000 in total. That would make the season average 55,000 per week.

It takes reasonableness to end that discussion.

So did football until the late 1990’s.

If you market an attractive product properly, there are enough people with disposable income prepared to spend it on local sport.

The temporary stand built for the Leeds match takes us to 11,400. It looks like we have about 150 tickets left.

Maybe Hudds could think about a ground  share with Wakefield.
