2024 attendance thread

Just like the Storm get bigger crowds than all the Melbourne AFL teams because they have the place all to themselves?

The bigger concern is just how small the Sharks fanbase seems to be as there were a decent number of Cowboys fans at the game. I'm not sure why the Sharks have always avoided talks of relocation, mergers, etc.

maybe you don’t know the travel times? The ground was too far away on a Friday night KO. Compounded by an expected sellout at the SCG, it would have taken 45 minutes just to get out of the car park and with traffic, probably over an hour drive home.

Alternatively, Sharks fans could have boarded a 20 minute tram followed by 10 minute transfer, then up to a 15 minute wait for a 45 - 60 minutes train ride, depending where you get off. I’m not surprised the crowd was so small on a work night.

Played on Saturday, it would have been closer to the 30k mark, maybe more.

Cowboys fans fly in from Townsville but sharkies are concerned about friday night traffic.

Ive done the reverse trip to shark park from Sydney CBD for evening games many times and its not that bad.

Oh well, you’ve got all the answers then.

In good news for the Sharks despite your calls for them to relocate, grassroots RL participation in the Shire is one of the best in the country, add to that league tag and numbers are as good as anywhere.

Cronulla Sharks Jersey Flegg and Sharks men’s reserve grade team Newtown Jets are in the NSWRL Grand Finals this coming weekend and the 1st grade and the WNRL are both through to Preliminary Finals.

Perfect contenders for relocation 🤪

Where did I say they should relocate?

I simply responded to the lame explanation you provided for Fridays attendance.

Pardon, that was Copa on another thread.

My explanation for Friday night wasn’t lame. It was based off extensive experience of commuting by public transport from city to Cronulla on a Friday night and in addition, enough never to be repeated first hand experiences of the car parking and roads home from the Moore Park precinct for just 40,000, let alone for the 60-65,000 which were expected there on Friday just gone.

Was sub 20k a good crowd? Not at all. Have they proven to do better on other occasions? They sure have. Were there extenuating circumstances? Sure were. Is it fair to say then that considering the Sharks have done better previously but not so well on this occasion, those extenuating circumstances were real? I’m certainly happy to back my judgement.

If your extensive experience of the commute on a Friday night to and from Moore Park and Cronulla says otherwise, then I guess we have a difference of experiences.

2200 tickets sold so far by Leigh for Fridays eliminator at Salford, whilst still only available to Black, Platinum and Gold members. Available to White members tomorrow afternoon and general sale on Wednesday

About 1000 also bought direct from Salford if the ticket site is correct

Good to see that finally the play offs are selling tickets

Thank goodness Catalans didn't take Leigh's place.

I can confirm 30+ less sales for Scotland vs Italy at Workington, after this afternoons test purchase for the Tonga match, £7.50 is extremely reasonable, however a £2.50 'delivery' fee for a walk in purchase is beyond taking the mickey, good luck with that, it's cheaper on the telly.

This could be a sell out.

I believe over 8500 tickets sold.

That’s great news. I think it would be a good game to attend even as a neutral. The play offs feel like an event this season. Big attendances for the play offs and GF look good for SL

Yes, its brilliant and good for the game for 2 of the smaller clubs to generate such interest.

Leigh gone cap in hand for more tickets with over 4000 sold so far. Its a matter of whether this can be accomodated by the Red Devils.

I never had any issues mingling with Salford fans especially at the Willows.

I can’t see this years average SL attendance being higher than 2024, it would be great if it was. Would this season’s average matchup to the averages from 1980-1999 ?.

This season's SL average will comfortably beat the top flight averages from those years.

Let me be clear ( a popular phrase in political circles). Having a packed stadium clearly adds to team motivation, crowd enjoyment and club finances. It also looks good on TV, which is also important.  Let's trust that has a positive influence on viewing figures.
