We're a couple of weeks out from Magic Weekend in what's always a big occasion for rugby league in the north east.

For those who are in and around Tyneside on the Friday night, Newcastle Thunder take on Workington at 19:30 at Blaydon rugby club. Tickets are available on www.thunderrugby.co.uk £15 for adults, £5 for under 18s and £45 for hospitality.

As a Thunder fan it's always great to see other clubs turn up and support us. Anyone who looks at results can see we've been doing it tough since reforming to keep rugby league alive in the north east. We have a very young team who always give 100% every week. With the sad demise of Cornwall we've also lost a home game later in the season. If you're around on the Friday night please come down and support rugby league in the north east, everyone is welcome.

If you can buy in advance on the website it means the volunteers can have an idea on attendance. Also if you want a seat, it's limited so get there early.

Away from the rugby a personal highlight of Magic Weekend for me is seeing the various rugby league shirts on display at Leazes Parkrun which finishes with St James Park in the background.

There's also a marathon and half marathon from Gateshead stadium on Sunday morning for those who are around and want to support that.

I know there's a bit up in the air with Magic going forward, so if it is the last in Newcastle let's make it a big one!

If anyone has any questions then post them here and hopefully we'll see you down at Blaydon on the Friday night!

Well done 👏 As Sam says be good to clarify what the £45 includes for as sounds great value plus maybe advice on how to get there by public transport and road. Fingers crossed extra hundreds turn up on the night.

Bus X45 leaves Stand C at Eldon Square bus station on the hour and half hour, and 6 minutes later from Central Station Stop D. It takes 19 minutes and drops you right outside the entrance to the club. Ask for "Blaydon Rugby Club". After the match the frequency is one per hour. There are other buses from Gateshead Metro Interchange but they take longer.

The Post Code is NE16 3BN. Off the A1 find the B6317.

I don't know what the £45 gets you, but the food is very good.

I can't make Magic but I get a feeling I won't be too productive next weekend:

Saturday looks like a settee day!

Also your bad luck was compounded by the fact Cornwall went bust just days after Thunder made the very expensive journey down there.

To be fair it’s always 60k to 68k at Newcastle, usually with 10kish more on Saturday than Sunday.

I’ve been to almost all of them at St James.  Wigan, Leeds and Hull FC always travel in big numbers.  Hull KR, Wakefield and Castleford always seem to bring a crowd too.

Salford seem to bring lower numbers, Huddersfield bring next to no one and Catalans even less than no one.

Sunday definitely looks to have more teams who will bring numbers.  Saturday always has the bigger gate though.  Maybe the bank holiday Monday will help Sunday too.

I reckon will be more evenly full across both days, but wouldn’t be surprised to see Sunday busier for once.

Not just the Magic Weekends, but Women's State of Origin 1 is on Thursday morning too!

I thought Magic might suffer a bit this year due to it catching a few people by unawares early in the season (only 9 months since the last one) and because I think there are a few games that look like walkovers. I also think a few people will prefer to attend a few Ashes games over Magic.

60k is OK, 70k+ would be impressive.

I can confirm 30+ less sales for Scotland vs Italy at Workington, after this afternoons test purchase for the Tonga match, £7.50 is extremely reasonable, however a £2.50 'delivery' fee for a walk in purchase is beyond taking the mickey, good luck with that, it's cheaper on the telly.

Are we able to leave and re-enter the stadium during the day?

Bank Holiday Monday will definitely help, Saturdays generally have been more alcohol fuelled whereas Sunday seemed more muted affairs due to work the next day for many. Always found more people left earlier on Sunday (from an already lower base) than on Saturday.

Sadly, a sofa weekend for me and Mrs JohnM owing to family commitments and up-coming hip op. 😭.  Maybe next year.

We're ignoring it altogether even TV this time around, I think we're rehearsing for the future.
