  1. It was in 2013, 17500 in Avignon for France - New Zealand. To return to the subject, I think that in England you do not have a fair vision of the situation of rugby league in France. If we do not succeed in organizing this World Cup, it will be a total failure for the federation, since all the development projects were conditioned by this RLWC which was to be the driving force behind the revival of rugby league in France. In France, there is an expression: "we put all our eggs in one basket". Let's not forget that the national rugby league center project that was launched has been discreetly buried, that there is no development project for the national championship, that the base of our pyramid is inexorably shrinking, etc., etc. If you want to help us, you English and international authorities of our sport, you must help us to develop our championship so that it becomes fully professional. the Dragons and Toulouse will not help our discipline to grow on our territory.

  2. The lads are not the only team in action this weekend Our ladies are about to get their first run out at a 9 aside tournament in Warrington Its going to be a tough day 6 am start( now thats commitment on a sunday morn) and placed in a group pitted with the current super league champions york and runners up barrow, they are nervous excited and looking forward to getting out there. Cant fault these lasses commitment busy working mums who spend all the time running kids around to rugby football and many other sports who are managing to find time to pave the pathway for our ladies. The ladies have come a long way since the first training session wishing them all the best for a great experience and cant wait to see them on home soil. And lets not forget the lasses are doing this without any reward other than they believe in the game of rugby leage they belive in women and they belive in Workington Town ...why you might ask well thats simple Women are superhuman #UTTL

  3. Don't know what this thread is doing here, but before it's put on AOB or binned- The football play offs generate huge interest, great attendances and keep the season alive for so many teams until the season ends. Still, IMG will ensure RL slowly but inevitably gets rid of silly p+r.

  4. Most ever wins for us in SL and still only May, first ever 4 in a row and still having a 100% record against Yorkshire teams this season. Dreamland....

  5. You reap what you sow. The lack of groundwork has meant the whole international game has no real foundations. To think we can just stage four huge world cups combined when we don't even stage proper credible internationals in the country most years is just stupid. Our arrogance and burying our head in the sand last year led to some real average off field performance in rlwc21 and it's hard to see how France 25 could do well. I desperate hope something can be resolved, because I'd have loved to have gone over there for plenty of games. But tbh, I'm not far off done with international RL.

  6. Pick any division in the pyramid. Then look two divisions below it. In that latter division will be more than a handful of teams who are as well resourced/supported/historic/whatever-but-equal-or-better than more than a handful of teams in the former division. I saw a video of a crowd of 1,100+ at a 'Division 9' game yesterday. There is no comparison and, as for griping that it's all hype, then the response to that has to be: "Yes ... and?" We could do with a lot more hype in our game. But then we could do with feeling like the audience believes the games matter and that coming across.

  10. I think it starts with the RFL realising themselves as the governors of the sport in Europe similar to the NRL. Sure, there is the NZRL, similar to the FFRXIII, but there is no question, RL in the Pacific is owned by the NRL who are running various strategies in various Pacific nations, including NZ, to further their stranglehold as the number 1 sport in the region. Bankrolling or heavily subsidising the Hunters, Silktails, Warriors reserves, on the road Warriors fixtures, international fixtures. Why are they doing this? Because it is in their long term interest to do so. What certainly did not help the French was allowing Toulouse to drop back down out of SL. A French international against England in France would have been far more beneficial than the tiny profit derived from hosting the same game at a small ground like Warrington without selling it out. Exorbitant measures like forcing French teams at lower grades to pay for English teams to travel, or forcing them to stump up mighty deposits to appear in the Challenge Cup are extremely shortsighted and prohibitive measures.

  11. Just spied this https://www.pitchpublishing.co.uk/shop/hope-and-glory Hope and Glory is the untold story of rugby league in Thatcher's Britain. Against the backdrop of economic and social upheaval, the sport of the working class transformed itself. Broxton's book recreates this era with the dramatic tension of a novel, revealing it as a critical moment where despite losing everything, anything still seemed possible. Perhaps @Tides Of History could tell us more?

  16. In my opinion it's secondary contact with the head. I keep repeating it, but a super slow-mo makes a 0.2s late tackle look like a tackle 2 seconds late. The slow mo shows the head rock back of Smith, then a few jeers from the crowd and the ref has to act. If every tackle was subject to a replay in front of home fans there'd be six red cards per game

  17. Agree with the first half. Every tackle replayed in super slow-mo with a hint of being high is a red card tackle. In real time it's marginally late

  21. Echo Mr Mania’s comments. Well done Barrow. Cracking second half performance and put us to the sword. Exploited the weakness on that left edge and kept hitting it. I was really impressed with your play although I’m guessing Sammut and co played the game of the season. No idea how you are down towards the bottom if you could play like that every week. good luck for the season.

  22. The ignorant oaf is using the stadium as smokescreen again, he just comments on this kind of garbage and blames the Labour council to move eyes away from the absolute show his vile government have made of running the country, and his own bigotted moronic views on things. Its the usual grifter MP`s tactics, look over here at this terrible thing others are doing, no not at the terrible things we are doing....

  24. I agree with Oxy that teams won't need to spend money on players as SL will become a closed shop again. So all the clubs have to play for is being top of the league and Champions. There would be less need for a top of table play off.Perhaps teams will go back playing for win money and less money for losing. However there will be opportunity to bring more young players through in to the team with the race for SL gone.I think Championship gates will drop 30/40%.

  25. Most enjoyable game I ever saw in a WC was in Bristol in 2013, cook islands vs USA. You would never get that sort of experience in we shrink to 8 teams

  27. I'd imagine they won't bother putting us on again this season. Our own fans are bored watching us. The stats don't lie. Worst attack in SL history, I'd say its the worst in RL history. The defence holds out for so long but the utter failure with tye ball in hand builds pressure and cracks appear. If you can't score points the opposition know once they get 2 scores up it's job done.

  29. Another little step in the right direction. We weren't great by any means but once again we fronted up, worked hard, and managed to produce a few little moments of quality when we needed them. That said, Wakefield look like a team that would struggle to make an impact in the Championship. They try hard, and actually there are aspects of their game that are ok. Defensively they aren't awful, and they don't really struggle to make metres either. But they don't have an ounce of flair or creativity about them.

  39. Was it unprofitable? Have you a source for this? The recent World Cup ploughed many millions into RL infrastructure in this country and paid a rights fee to the IRL for the first time. If it was unprofitable outside of these things then the overwhelming cause was the actions of the NRL in sabotaging it taking place in 2021 and causing a year's delay.

  40. fevnut's musings 2023 #12: Last week's referee, Aston's comments and Top of the Table The latest edition of ‘fevnut’s musings’ is now available to read. This week we write about the standard of refereeing in our game against Sheffield last Sunday and we go on to write about the ridiculous comments by Mark Aston after the match. We also reflect on our joy looking at the Championship table. Finally we explain about Dan Smith’s Fev Heritage Number and talk about Jack Bussey’s goal-kicking. 44. "A three test series"? Do any sports still do that?? Sounds really old fashioned to me. I cannot imagine it pulling in many younger fans. I thought cricket have even binned those nowadays! Rugby union doesn't really have them any more either? Is this really the way to drag a dying sport into the 21st century? I can't imagine the Aussies, who know how to market the game... would have any interest in this.

  45. That's factually incorrect. Must be quite some time since that occurred if it ever has? Nearest recent was 2019 when we beat London in last game of season to end up 2 points clear of them but also above Shudds and HKR. Had we lost HKR would probably have been relegated on points difference, but we didn't. Some other ignorant numpty posted the same fantasy tale a few weeks back. Copy and paste saving me some time.

  46. I think that’s the joy of most world cups. That and the semi-final & final games when you get down to best teams. Jamaica’s try. Seeing Greece. Gallant Wales. Lebanon’s vocal fans. That’s what I enjoyed most at RLWC2021

  47. I went to the meeting where jenkinson and 5 others put a last minute halt to the stadium being built. It would have been built, world cup games staged, and we would have one place for all doctors instead of a number of places. We would also have had a good number of sellafield staff working in the town. And he based the veto on mythical figures to frighten people. The council he was part of could have had everything in place with a stadium built now. He and the others in the council he was part of have failed to deliver, yet they were desperate to ensure the council bought the ranch with less facilities than it had 40 years ago. That's progress for you
