Who would want to apply. Anyone in the heartlands would have clubs complaining about muscling in on their fan base. Anyone outside the heartlands would have clubs complaining about the travelling.6 points

Wouldn’t watch football if it were in my back garden. Each to their own though5 points

No I didn’t. Could see the effort going in, the lads were trying all game but it just wasn’t happening. Swinton were good value for their lead as well so it wasn’t one of those games where I felt robbed of my time by staying to watch. Still can’t believe what I witnessed, it was like we’d pressed a boost button or something from the moment Dagger set off to catch that kick. I’ve seen plenty of “game of two halves” but not many “games of 7/8th and a 1/8th”.5 points

The game highlighted some issues for long to sort out. it will help with wardle and O’Keefe back in the side but for me- koppy needs to play bigger minutes we need another quality centre in the squad plt has a lot of errors in his game we lack speed across the park we can’t change things up with a bench full of forwards. Paga, Astley or Aldridge should’ve been in the team.4 points

Football bores me to tears, easily the most corrupt sport on the planet and most games spent with hardly any proper action. My only options when it comes to sport are do I watch Fax or do I watch an amateur Rugby League game and other than SL games on TV I can't remember the last time I watched a full game of any other sport.4 points

IMG are the new bogeyman. If they do something good, they'll get no credit from some, but they'll be quick to blame for anything negative.4 points

Is this down to the RFL or Super League clubs? If clubs can't afford a once a year trip to France to play for competition points they really shouldn't be in Super League4 points

I'm genuinely amazed clubs want to give it a go. There is barely any central funding and massive travel costs. They'll be looking at an outlay of £200k a year to be even remotely competitive3 points

There were quite a few who didn’t walk round at half time as well who I saw in the ground. Others who lapped the pitch Steve Tickle, Chris Archer, Glen Middleton, Graham Petcher, Adam Pate, Gav Chelton, Tommy Dawes,Nathan & Steve Mossop, Phil Atkinson, Pat Trainor apologies to some I know I will have missed, great atmosphere at the ground yesterday and also a great performance3 points

I don't recall anyone saying that. They got a team together at short notice and were signing students, local RU players and having trials. They certainly haven't splashed the cash on players.3 points

oldham where very unlucky with a few things. first i have watched the disallowed try by lawton. over and over and in my opinion he got the ball down. then the break by lawton he then passed the ball to mackensie turner who was in the clear but was easily caught.he is not fast enough for a winger. been mo he would have been under the sticks. the the try by the keighley centre is he called sau was yards offside. but in the right centre and wing if okeefe and mo are out, we have nobody to replace them our week point.3 points

"One day a year like this will see me right"....as Guy Garvey says...I can't remember as good a day with a cracking Ladies game, wonderful turn out from the old Heritage players and as good a performance from the Raiders as you would hope to see.Would love to see a list of former players who turned out...recognised a few of the '83 side..Eddie,Andy Whittle,Alan Hodkinson,Terry Moore,Derek,Cairnesy...was sure Steve Herbert was there too.Could someone produce a list...come on Steve Andrews..it was if the pages of "Keeping the Dream Alive "had come to life..let's hope we get more of the same..not just one day as Mr Garvey has it.3 points

Exactly my point. If Wigan paid for Cats to visit and Cats paid for Wigan to visit, the costs cancel out, and equate to them both paying for their own travel.3 points

Drunken fantasising about Phil!!! Things l never thought I'd read on this forum!!3 points

This is going to have massive implication for the World Club Challenge and I hope none of this will be at the expense of it. Hard to imagine an NRL champion team doing Vegas and also flying to the UK. The obvious solution would be to have the WCC in Vegas but I very much doubt that the NRL would like that event to be viewed as the pinnacle. They want the NRL to be that.3 points

To be fair, there are also those who credit them with things that would have happened without their help. Plenty of completely opposite positions in these kind of discussions.3 points

As daft as it sounds the Yeds could have won if the dropped ball over the line and Koppy dropping the ball with the line in front of him. If buts and maybes! Why wasn't Mo in the side? I'm sure they wouldn't have scored two down that side if he had been playing.3 points

Hmm, I'm not sure 'team' is correct on that one, Peter, I'd argue that there were some important members of the side yesterday that were still giving it the lot before that game-changing sending off. I hear criticisms of Will Dagger but I don't know of many full backs at any level that would have carried that ball into that challenge like he did yesterday. I think some of the body language, an hour in, was down to pure frustration that nothing was coming off, One player in particular tried everything he could and nothing went for him. Eventually you end up being guilty of overplaying or trying the ridiculous and it goes from bad to worse. The input, belief and desire of Tommo, Fitzy, Santi, Big Frank and Josh Daley particularly in that bonkers 13 minutes turned the inevitable into the incredible.3 points

Brilliant result and great performance from all 1-17. Should give the lads the confidence that we can compete with anyone in this league3 points

Very surprised to read this as the Vegas matches are to promote Australia in the USA and to break into the US sports betting market. So I am not sure two northern towns which most americans have not heard of, would achieve this. Now if the article was about FOX TV ratings, then any team coached by Sam Burgess would be a draw in Australasia. But then if I was Warrington I would be thinking more about appearing in the Workd Club Challenge down under, which is a reasonable assumption as it stands, than playing a one-off game in Las Vegas.3 points

I think this will be great for the city of Las Vegas, have you seen a Cas fan at an all you can eat buffet... this will be epic.3 points

If I was Catalan Dragons I would pay for a coach trip and the cheapest ferry tickets. No charter flights or even budget airlines.3 points

Hi guys. I'm the Dolphins rep that partisan mentioned. I had no idea that this forum existed or even that people outside of the Netherlands followed Dutch RL. About me: I've been a player for the Dolphins since 2017 and been on the NRLB board from 2020-2022. Currently on the board of the Dolphins as well. Today we hosted a double header at our club. Unfortunately we lost to Den Haag Knights 32-42. We made a comeback in the 2nd half but the knights managed to pull through in the later stage of the game. The other match was between Amsterdam Cobras and Zwolle Wolves, which the latter team won 34-6. But even so, shout out to the Cobras. They started the game with 12 and ended with 10, and really put up a fight. Afterward we all had a beer and some BBQ. Good day of Dutch rugby league. If you guys have any questions I'll try and answer them, or shed a light on the situation.3 points

I’m sure Bedford would have done their homework and I would go watch the odd game but from my “limited” knowledge a successful venture would cost around 250k a year minimum. IMO a semi successful Outpost side would need - an experienced coach - a playing budget better than other L1 clubs - serious business backing - a solid home / stadium where they’re not at the mercy of landlords - juniors - a 2nd team - around 20 dedicated volunteers - a 5 and 10 year plan If those points aren’t covered then don’t do it, Bedford have been a great success story for 20 years and the risk is that would be destroyed.2 points

Agreed. Sean Long stressed that we were going for a ‘power game’ in his pre-match interview. Ok to be so one dimensional against the lesser quality (no disrespect) teams than Keighley, but against a team with a lot more offensive quality we needed a Plan B, an x-factor beyond the simplistic. Hopefully the lesson will be learned for the next two Keighley matches. It may well prove that Hunslet beating Keighley was our most important result of the season.2 points

I mean, the scenario matters. If you were a Fev fan AND a Leeds fan - and people on here seem to think there's a fair few of those (and Cas and Leeds etc) - then given the choice of traveling to Barrow for a regular league game or watching Leeds in the Championship playoff final I can see why they'd choose the latter. I'd probably do the same in their case.2 points

I don’t think the Roosters have a lot of city wide appeal and I’m not sure many Sydney clubs do, including the Sharks. Souths would be an exception. Maybe the only one. They weren’t very well liked for a while there. Peptides, Gallen, Fifita, Bird to name a few were reasonably unlikeable. They’ve got a new generation now with players which could lead to a few impressionable young fans steering their way like Hynes, Brailey, Hazelton, Talakai and Mulitalo. Back to NZII, I don’t think there are many rusted on NRL fans in the South Island, so I would expect a new club could easily own the region and displace most previous allegiances or be the second favourite team at worst.2 points

I don't think people realise the costs of running a womens team. Fev are not the only ones in this position though and its hard to find that extra money to support another team. Look at the travel costs to get a coach up to Barrow, you are looking at nearly 1k unless the club has a partnership with a coach company. The girls themselevs were left to find their own sponsorship which off the top of my head was over £500. Last time I looked many of the them didnt have sponsors so that is quite a chunk of income that is missing that could go towards costs. It makes it doubly hard because at the moment every team this side of the pennines are feeding off the scraps of who Leeds and York don't take and then even Huddersfield after that are struggling for quality and it makes it so hard for teams to even begin to compete. The good thing going forward is that Fev have no competition from Cas or Wakefield so there is plenty of hope for the future and they are not in a bad position given their resources. It could be a lot worse when you look at the likes of Cas, Wakey, Bradford, and my local team Halifax who are second fiddle in their leagues to community teams and in some cases can't even recruit players because people are choosing community teams over them.2 points

If Easts Tigers get in they will play all NRL-level games at Lang Park. Langlands Park would remain as their training ground and host the QLD Cup team and the lower grades, it's far too close to the CBD/Suncorp to justify any serious upgrades by the government. North Ipswich Reserve seems like the next 'new' stadium on the state government's list. However it'd rely upon the Ipswich Jets getting the next Brisbane license over Easts. Current plans are for a 12K stadium2 points

Although I was born in Manchester, I lived in Swinton from day 1 until I was 20. I went to secondary school and then college on Salford until I was 18. I was a regular fan at Station Rd. But still, I identified, and still do, with Manchester, as I think, would younger people who grew up in the Manchester area. To have a SuperLeague or NRL club there requires in my view a number of things, including but not limited to: 1. An owner, directors or CEO with a passion for the sport. 2. An owner -and directors - with a commitment to finance in the long term to build something of value. 4. An owner and directors with personal power, public profile, business skills, drive, dedication etc to make it happen. Just having Sky, NRL, etc. buy a club would not be enough. Look at London in the Branson days. The club looked as though it was going to finally come good...but imagine where it would be had Branson actually led from the front.2 points

There is a pretty large cohort of Sharks fans who don’t want the semi’s at Shark Park. Mainly from members who can’t get their seats and potentially miss out on tickets. I think the Sharks belong at Allianz for their home finals. Place can be buzzing when it’s full of Sharks fans. 2016 Prelim is still my favourite RL experience I think.2 points

Keighley played very well, tough forwards & expansive attacking backs. Our forwards matched them but our backs looked as though they’d never played together before. Very poor handling throughout the game. Fev fans told us that Long’s style of play was one dimensional & in the tougher games (Swinton & today) we couldn’t change things up. Our handling can’t be as bad next time we play them but the players need to understand that reputations don’t win matches.2 points

To be honest I’m surprised the small-minded, groupthink idiocracy of rugby league leaders and trade press editors from West Yorkshire haven’t considered making the Hull clubs pay other clubs’ petrol money too, as it’s a little too far along the M62 and we said we wanted to be in their comp so it’s only fair we cover the other teams’ extra costs of our existence. Truly the lunatics have taken over the asylum. They’ve picked rugby league execs from the same, small gene pool for so long that it’s a bit like all the inter-breeding in the Mississippi delta in Deliverance… next thing you know your third cousin is playing the banjo and eyeing up Burt Reynolds.2 points

Are IMGs fingerprints on this? And if a french team apply for entry to league 1? Why stop at France. Gateshead and Cornwall are a long way from the M62. Lets charge them as well. Oh for the days of David Oxley2 points
