So-called Yorkshire Ripper Peter Sutcliffe has died. He was 74.

Having grown up near Halifax during his reign of terror, I remember only too well the impact Sutcliffe's murders had, particularly on female family members and girls at my school.

One of the women who survived being attacked by Sutcliffe was a cleaner at the office in which my mum worked. Mum told me the unfortunate woman's mental scars were only too obvious.

I care not for your family; I care not for your kin. I come in search of terror, though terror is my own; I come in search of vengeance for crimes and crimes unknown. I care not for your children, I care not for your wives, I care not for your country, I care not for your lives." - (c) Jim Boyes - "The Avenging Angel"

Yes indeed one of those old school all round entertainers and variety acts . A thorough professional , massively popular and very self deprecating ....which via Morecambe and Wise really helped him ! RIP Des , a huge part of our popular culture for decades

I thought Des was a brilliant performer, was great working with M&W, but was absolutely awful on Countdown. The show restricted his abilities. Anybody can read from an Autocue, look at Alexander Armstrong.

Great Song & Dance man, old school seaside entertaining, a big rival to Bruce Forsyth at their best. He will be missed.

He certainly was, last time I saw him was on room 101, he was quite funny on there.

A better legacy may have been his involvement in music - Bolan, The Damned, Sex Pistols, etc.

Keith Titmuss, a promising prop forward with the NRL's Manly Sea Eagles, has died after a training session at the club's Narrabeen base. He was 20.

Titmuss, who had risen through Manly's junior ranks to secure a call-up to next season's 30-man full-time squad, reported feeling ill and died later at Sydney's Royal North Shore Hospital.

Manly coach Des Hasler said: "We are devastated. Keith was a very popular character amongst the playing group. He will be sorely missed but never forgotten."

Brilliant hand , I mean footballer

Comfortably the greatest footballer I've watched. I've seen incredibly talented players. Strong players. Players with awareness and skill. And players who could carry a team of makeweights on their backs. But he's the only one I've seen who combined all that again and again and again.

As for the handball ... if Shilton wasn't such a potbellied failure he should be able to outleap a shorty like Maradona even if he is cheating but he isn't so he can't. And that's the final difference between greatness and being a bitter loser. Maradona would do whatever it took to win. That way greatness lies.
