So a few sly and negative comments to greet the new team, nice.

Just got off the phone with Dean Buchan for an interview about España Rugby League.  He certainly has his head screwed on and I'm alot more confident this Spanish League is building for the long term.

Barcelona Dragons Valencia Huracanes Alicante Cruzados Malaga Bandoleros Madrid (Bears? Osos?) Mallorca Goblins Interesting set of teams.

That's sarcasm right?

Maybe they just took the name of the city where they were from and stole the second part from an established RL team - very lazy, and teams that do that are lazy as well....😅🤣🤣

Funny enough the club in its original form wanted to call the SL side Perpignan/St Esteve Mediterranean  (I kid you not) however one managed to convince them that Catalan Dragons would be the perfect name:) it took a bit of persuading but in the end the board saw the sense of incorporating the Dragons into the name.

And the rest my friends is history LOL:)

I'm chuffed to see the Spanish seem to be getting organised.

All these fledgling nations need some form of merit table/squash ladder type of international competition to gauge their relative strength and motivate them to grow.

Have to say that's a better geographical spread than we manage in the UK 😁 Interesting to see there's enough interest for a team on Mallorca.

Why do you need a big national spread? There isn’t one in England, Australia or France.

There must be loads of northern expats in Majorca. Imagine the away followings if they got into SL 😎

I agree. I am really not sure we should have stretched ourselves to pretty much the whole M62. If they can’t walk there, it’s too risky.

Who cares if they are in SL or not? Sounds like a good away day regardless.

Anyone got an idea of where the Goblins are based? I tend to go to Mallorca every other year or so and hope to be there again by the end of the year so would love to take a game in.

There seems to be a union club in Palma de Mallorca called Shamrock, that have been sharing on social media the Goblins logo etc. So I suppose it will be their players playing as the Goblins on their off weekends.

Or maybe because Barcelona is part of Catalonia, whose patron Saint is St George, they thought it was totally appropriate

Similar for Malaga and Alicante, there is thousands of ex-pats in those areas, so a competitive Spanish league would hopefully drum-up some good support.

I know Union has a decent presence in Andalusia, and the leagues there has just restarted after a COVID break.
