DOM YOUNG

This seems a biased view. An England International only gets 15k a game.

The pay in RU is also going down and the English club game is up the creek without a paddle. In contrast the NRL salary cap is raising by a minimum of $1.1 million next year with further increases set for the following years of tge TV deal.

The salary cap in the NRL is already higher than the RU Premiership as it is and RL also has the advantage of smaller squads and less need for specialist positions which means that salary cap is also split less ways. The average wage of a RU Premiership winger is £122k. A top 5 NRL winger earns £260k, even wingers 16-20 earn £160k.

It is not biased at all!

If your figures are correct, then fantastic. England Union payments are obviously down since Sam Burgess played, so great to hear. I was nor aware of this.

Would I bet on him staying in League? No chance!

However we will see after the World Cup, as he will almost certainly attract interest from union clubs.

Why is there ‘no chance’ of him staying in league?

An incredibly small amount of players move from top flight league to union. In the last 5 years it’s been what, Tuivasa Sheck, Grace, Charnley, Vunivalu…….anyone else of note?

To earn more money than the NRL he can only really go to French or Japanese rugby and culturally Australia is far closer to Britain than both those countries (generally speaking of course).

I like watching Young play for the Knights. He's good going forward and I don't think his general defence is too bad (especially when you add in some brilliant efforts in cover defence). He is surprisingly weak defensively under the high ball, just seems to drop it a bit much. Not so bad that he gets hammered every week but room for improvement.

I didn't say that.

I said there is no chance I would bet on him staying. His profile: Big athletic outside back makes him exactly what union clubs look for.

Vunivalu, Thornley, Tomane, Radradra, Vuna, Korobiete, Grace all had either size, very good athleticism or both. Add in the fact that he is English, and clubs will be all over him IMO. Hopefully he is under contract with the Knights though which would deter clubs who would have to pay a fee.

If he does decide to go to RU I don't think it will be about money as he'll be able to earn plenty in the NRL. For me I think it's the draw of playing in big international tournaments which sets RU apart from RL. Building big international events is the best way for RL to retain its players

Semi Radradra and Marika Koroibete are still both within that 5 year period now, one thing all of the above have in common apart from Charnley are that they had an RU background in juniors.

Anyone who believes Young wouldn't have had prior interest from RU while coming through the ranks as a 6'7 kid who would be one of the fastest players in World Rugby is more than a little naive. Not only did he stay in league, he also moved to the other side of the World as a 19yo to pursue a career in Rugby League.

He'll become one of the best outside backs in the comp, either as a winger or centre - the very top tier outside backs in the NRL can currently earn between 600-700k in AUD and the salary cap rises every couple of years (it's happening this off-season again I believe) while the inclusion of the 17th and 18th teams will further inflate these prices as well.

As you say French/Japanese RU is the only potential threat if he's still unsatisfied with that level of pay, the English premiership isn't in the conversation - there's even news this week that a former NRL player has abandoned his premiership club after yet another club dives into financial ruin and is headed back to the NRL.

I think Young will stay on the wing now he has made a solid start there in the NRL and internationally.  This is because wing has become such a critical position in the modern game with the quality of carries on plays 1, 2 and 3 being so important to how well a team creates field position and ends sets on attacking plays/kicks.

But as a player, I think his best position could be centre.  He has good hands for a big man and would be clearly very dangerous running the ball.

He was unplayable in the centre for the Giants at academy level and created plenty of space and assists for the likes of Seniors, McGowan, Wardle etc.

That team was a joy to watch.

Really looking forward to seeing Dom young in the world cup as I believe he will being attention from accross the whole country and is a player that will improve over the next few years, only one of many fantastic wingers though from the nrl coming over this autumn, Dom ranked 15th in the stats, but 3 samoans in to'o,suaali and may ahead of him but also looking forward to see the likes of Katoa, Sivo,Tupou,Cobbo,Coates,Mulitalo,Tuilagi,Addo-Carr etc

I can confirm 30+ less sales for Scotland vs Italy at Workington, after this afternoons test purchase for the Tonga match, £7.50 is extremely reasonable, however a £2.50 'delivery' fee for a walk in purchase is beyond taking the mickey, good luck with that, it's cheaper on the telly.

Depends which stat you look at.  For example he ranks above To'o, Suaalii and May in line breaks (that's both the absolute number and line breaks per game).  Which is pretty good going when Newcastle were pretty awful all year.

This lad is going to be a superstar, the best young English league player for a while. Look at what he has achieved so far and announcing yourself with that GF try has put him at a level he looks like he was made to reach.

Oh I don’t know,in 10 yrs when his pace has gone & he’s playing on one leg he’d be a perfect fit at centre for England.

I watched plenty of academy RL and he's never been unplayable. A decent prospect who's fulfilled his potential but don't over egg it.
