I didn't see during the game but did New Zealand lose Jesse Bromwich to injury?

He carried the ball for just 34 metres and so in a game of so much physical attrition and the Kiwi middle forwards flagging towards the end then it would have been a loss to be a player down in the middle rotation.

Although I would love to see England win the World Cup I do believe the Aus v NZ game should have been the final. They are easily the best 2 teams IMO.

How did you come to that conclusion? England haven't played either of them for 4 years.

I've just accidentally watched 5 mins of it.  Apparently you now get red carded for a try saving tackle.

Is it the same rule in both codes? Direct head contact results in a red? Or in league is it just a yellow card?

What a game that was.
I wasn't home as I was at the theatre but manage to avoid spoilers staying away from Instagram, Facebook, etc.

So I watched the game then, what a game.
Very sad for NZ, though I believe the best team won.
It's been a game of two halves for the Kiwis, as they were really exausted in the 2nd half; Australia were a great team in both halves in my opinion: they somehow manage - thanks to moments of individual talent - to stay in the game in the 1st half and at HT I thought NZ couldn't endure.
In the 2nd half, there were more errors from the Kiwis, while tha Kangaroos kept their discipline and reduced the errors. Still, New Zealand had their chances to win it but it just wasn't enough.
It was a win à la All Blacks from the Kangaroos, imo: they stayed in the game, stayed close in the score when struggling the 2nd half and then made the opposition pay at about 60'.

From a personal point of view, it was an incredible test match. More of this, please.
Australia are used to this tension and identity thanks to Origin, NZ would need and deserve to play more tests.
Kiwis were devastated in press conference: they know they came really close. Though I don't think they should regret anything as they were superb and gave their best. More test matches are needed and this is not intended as an attack against Origin, as I love it too.

Whatever happens in the final, it's history.
And now let me get back to the anxiety...

Sorry for my English, I hope I managed to express what rl means to me and how I love this game.

Wow I didn’t realise that. Thanks Dave. I really believe England nz have to play aus more regularly and the standards will lift above origin over time. England aren’t far off and I expect them to do well in the final

Thing is, England "did well" in 2017. If they get to the final, they need to win. This can be a fantastic thrashing or a turgid affair settled by a last minute penalty, all that matters is a win and get that huge monkey off their back.

And yet Australia won by the grand total of....2 points. I agree that NZ looked like they were wobbling with around 20 minutes to go. But with a tad more execution they still could have won.

Which doesn't tally with the dominant Aussie angle because if they could have scored 20 points in the last 10 minutes - they would have done.

The Kiwis hung on unbelievably well, and showed incredible guts, but they were absolutely done physically by early in the second half. The fact tgst they came so close is testament to their character and ability to dig deep mentally.

Just look at Cameron Murray's try - pure tiredness allows him to run straight through the defence.

As the 2nd half went on, the Aussies left a lot of space on their left edge but NZ didn't have the energy to move the ball out there and have a run. They were exhausted by that 1st half effort. It was obvious if you watched the game.

Watching Manu in slow motion there was amazing.

He tackled/went to tackle Wighton, slipped off, tried to tackle with the other hand as he was slipping backwards, and then attempted to lunge to slap down Wighton's popped pass to Holmes. All in the space of a second or so.

He's an incredible player. Didn't deserve to be on the losing side last night.

Man of the match for me.

Re: the ref. I think he did a good job, no sign of national favours.

Re: the effect of refs decisions. Any decision, right ot wrong, affects the future path the game takes. It's impossible generally to predict what the outcome of a game would be if a different decision had been made on anything, though the nearer the end of the game that a "wrong" decision is made, the less chance there is of neutralising it.

It was a good game , although I did think it was a bit 5 drives and a kick for a while with not enough open play , the Addo Carr try was incredible , to take a kick like that from a ball coming over your shoulder at full speed without breaking stride was just incredible , I don't think I've ever witnessed that before

Was disappointed with Klein , yes he let the game flow , but also made a few crucial mistakes , too many offsides not given which made the game too tight IMO , and you can't call " play on " , then not allow both sides to ' play on '

The Aussies are a good team , not a great one , they are all round good and don't make mistakes , Whoever plays them in the final will need to play at a similar level to them mistakes wise , can England or Samoa do that ? 🙁

There's absolutely no argument that the kiwis were tired after their exertions. My point is that if Australia were truly dominant (as we've seen numerous times) they would have scored 4 or 5 more trys. But they didn't, not through an act of charity but because they couldn't.

By sending everybody off 😄

I was meaning more by discouraging tackling on the try line for fear of being sent off and so allowing the attacking team to just stroll through for a try. But actually your way works just as well cos if you send off half the team then the gaps in the defensive line will be enormous meaning even lumbering yawnion players would be able to run through. Though they'd probably still kick for territory in that situation...

One other thing, I don’t know what the consensus was but Ben hunt did not mean to find Addo-Carr with that kick.

That’s the amazing thing, he did.

It was planned and executed to perfection in a World Cup semi-final. Skill upon skill upon skill. Awesome.

I agree.
We're far away from when the gap between the Aussies and the rest was very huge.

Best Post in the past 6 minutes

Whilst your post seems to be gaining a few laughs, ironically, your use of such a 'recent' time frame means that you haven't used recency bias. In this context, recency bias would involve favouring a recent event when comparing a range of events which have occurred over a significant period of time (much greater than 6 minutes). For example, favouring a recent event over one that occurred forty years ago.

I think the move was for a bounce to run over the try line for the winger. However as it turned out with a magnificent run and unbelievable catch we saw a try that will stand against any in the last decade.

I wonder if you long lived RL types can help me out.

So for a long while last night NZ 2 points down were adjust putting up ineffectual kicks in the Oz 20. I was sat thinking. 2 point game. Get down there take the goal get a point restart. I still cannot get my head around why in such a close game you would t keep the board ticking especially when you've been nilled for the half.

I'd agree , something I've suggested in tight games in the past , 2 up and tiring , make it 3 taking away the worry of giving away a penalty and ' usually ' getting possession back

Then repeat if the opportunity arises

Just realised I've looked at it from the Aussie side there , but you're correct take 1 gives the opposition the worry of giving away a penalty

But from speaking to ' coaches ' in the past it's sometimes seen as a weakness or a lack of confidence

BLX if you ask me
