You would expect 10k from Wigan to form the base of the crowd - guaranteeing 20k imo. I am posting from Lanzarote and I know plenty who are away at present with Kids. Wigan is an end of line town and I know connections aren’t great East to West. We are off to Wigan with 10 but tbh the fixture doesnt excite me, Aus and NZ are the be all and end all imo

Righto. So hold the game where folk might be interested.

First test Wimbledon or Brentford would have been correct

Would have been a good test for the repairs to Wimbledon's sink hole.

Good news for Wakey and will give you a chance of the extra attendance point at the end of 2026 rather than 2027 if you can get enough fans in over the next 2 years

I think it's a challenge to watch any series of three repeat fixtures tbh. I think weve moved on from them, largely. There is history around Ashes and Kiwis series, but even they have challenges to be sold, particularly now we don't have the long tours that support them.

England v Samoa has no history at all really to play on, and we've done sod all to build up the England events as must see.

I just don't see going back to two/three match test series' but worse than we used to do them is a way of growing the international game.

We've seen that there is a demand for major tournaments when staged well. I'm not sure we have for test series really. Even in the last series versus the Kiwis the first Test got only 17k in Hull (iirc).

Have you ever had the pleasure to go on tour down under with GB/England to watch a test series, I have and found them to be fantastic expieriences, you are not just stationed in one place, because of the size of Aus and NZ and how they pick the venues you get to see other places, and in recent times if you go with a good company such as Catalan Sports Tours there are organised trips and excursions included to keep you entertained and occupied throughout.

I have done both types of tours, when we had the 'long tours' as you term them and there was the mid week games and also the short 3/4 game tours, both in my opinion are equally as good for different reasons.

In fact to be totally honest Dave, I much prefer to travel down under as to what we put on when whoever tour up here, in the main I have been to our venues multiple times, yes the games are good but I find the occasions not as good in comparison I'd sooner stay indoors and watch on TV. May make the exception for Aus though.

As for the tours down under, the game really doesn't help itself with the lack of scheduling, if you knew when they are you could prepare for it, both financially and for arranging holiday's, the first tour I did was in '92, when the GB squad was announced for '88 my brother and I decided we would commit to saving £50 each a month for the next 4 years so we opened a bank account just for that purpose, it also gave time to arrange with employers to save holidays each year and take extended time off for the tour.

If you haven't done a tour Dave do not miss one if you ever get the opportunity, a holiday to places you may never go to again with Rugby League, what could be better?

Unfortunately on the last Ashes tour Down Under I was only 14 so never went on one of those.

I did the 2008 World Cup and loved it, even though it was different. If there were still tours I would absolutely take a family trip for it. Although that said, I've been to.Oz a few times and it ain't my favourite place (although a trip with RL involved is always better!).

I did the 1992 tour, arrived the night before the 1st test, came home the day after the third test. Did all the tour games in between. Fantastic experience.  Am I right in thinking that was the last tour.

Just because you think everyone hates you doesn't mean they don't.

I thought almost every ticket was sold for this game?

Almost every ticket that was put on sale was sold

They didn't put them all on sale, but kept releasing a few more every time supply was getting low.

3,000 at Albi vs St Esteve last night

Wow that’s superb, any idea why it was so high?

Maybe just two top of the table teams - Albi had a 100% record before this.

Worth watching the deciding try. 39:47 on the clock in the second half and Catalans get a penalty in their own half.

Wish they put the camera on the other side so you can see the crowd/stand.

Maybe, but I don’t think they usually get 1,000 so 3,000 is a massive crowd.

You can see the main stand is pretty full.

Almost every seating ticket I thought they said . still its 1,500 more than the Wigan attendance so not a bad effort.

They were the best supported Elite 1 club last season. New stand opening next year. I assume they won't be waiting all year for some floodlights though.

Do you know what their average was last season, or anyone else in Elite 1 or 2 for that matter? Stats seem impossible to come by online, when I’ve looked anyway.

If they get over 25k to the final at Parra - and I can see no reason why that would even be a stretch, then this year’s Pacific Champs will be a major step forward compared with any previous incarnations: 33k in Brisbane, full house 17k in Christchurch, 23k for NZ Tonga and 25+ for the final, giving an average of around 24/25k. And only one game between the traditional power houses Oz v NZ. Going into the 26 World Cup, even this level of coverage/marketing would make that streets ahead of anything we saw in 08 and 17, and we can reasonably expect the crowds to be substantially better.

Once the international games in the SH start making real money, the momentum will be unstoppable.

They should do easily. If they can't get over 25k for a quadruple header then something is up. They should be getting that for Australia v Tonga by itself.

When it comes to crowds in the Southern hemisphere its Tonga that are the power houses.

I believe it was approx 1,500 as I remember them posting a few 2000+ crowds last year, where that same grandstand looked pretty full.

If you use twitter, a good person to ask is Catalan Media.  I heard him on a podcast about a month ago, Englishman living in southern France, knew a lot.  He also said Albi have been one of the big movers and shakers of French RL in the last couple of years, so 2k and above might become the norm for them this season.
