  1. The sport over here may not have the glitz, the glamour nor finances of the NRL. It may not have the same quality levels of early 00s. But this has been a cracking season. Really enjoyed it. Some really good teams. Can’t wait for the play offs and more of the same.

  2. I have a feeling that, especially after last night, we've been handed some SL play-off games where we may actually see bigger crowds than for the SL regular rounds. HKR-Leigh and Saints-Wire are massive and Catalans will surely fill their ground again for a home semi (trying to see how I can get there). Wigan vs HKR or Leigh would also be huge. And Old Trafford already selling way faster than last year. Good times ahead over the next month!

  3. Safe now. I personally think the stick Sammut has got this season has been ridiculous. Helped us to 4th last year with magic moments, tries the same stuff this year he gets bashed for trying. Anyone with a rugby league brain can see all the oppositions defensive efforts are focused on reducing Sammuts influence on the game. Particularly in the first half of the season our backs weren't taking advantage of the space he created. In terms of value for money this year he probably hasn't stacked up but if any supporter doesn't think he has overall had a great impact to our club they're mental.

  4. The lad definitely has talent but I think he needs another season at this level anyway. There’s plenty of time for him to move up into Super League. If he leaves for a Super League club now, he’ll get farmed out on a 2 week loan or DR and that will do him no good at all. Best off staying and getting good minutes in an environment where he can flourish.

  5. Great following for Rovers at Wakey tonight... what a season! Best thing about this year for us is how much younger the crowd has been, home and away. We're capturing a new generation, exactly what we needed (and the sport needs). All in all, it was well worth the 4 hour drive up tonight

  9. If we win and fax lose we qualify for play offs, can’t see fax losing though. Whatever happens we have had a great season considering everything that has gone on, the guys should be very proud of themselves.

  10. As someone who has lost the professional club they support at the end of this year, I make no bones about feeling pretty miserable about the game. Normally I watch every televised game and would have been buzzing about last night, but I just had absolutely no enthusiasm about it and the boosterism beforehand. It just appears that those running the game have no real interest about anything or anyone whether supporter, player or volunteer outside a very small geographical area and I have to ask myself whether it is worth the unrequited emotional input anymore.

  11. May I be the first to congratulate the Wigan team on finishing top of the league this year. It remains a wonderful achievement, and is particularly well deserved for Matty Peet, a young British coach developing a fine side and a great culture, who is always available to speak to the press. For anyone that missed it, I would recommend you dig out the video for Mago’s re-signing. It is all that is good about our game.

  12. I didn't watch the game due to a prior commitment. But I did just want to say that Leigh has, without a shadow of a doubt, been the Team of the Year. They've played entertaining rugby whenever I've seen them on Sky, with some genius marketing from Derek Beaumont (who I have changed my opinion about) and there's still the opportunity for them to go on a run to the GF I'm rooting for the Leopards in the Play offs. Also delighted for the likes of Harry and the other Leigh people on here who have taken some stick over the past few years from other forum posters.

  13. We can all debate his pros and cons but two things are facts 1,yes he can be unbelievably frustrating and sometimes have a massive howler as Hakim did . 2,he's also proven many many times he's capable of mercurial things that Ryan,Adam,Ellis, latterly Jake are just not capable of in the slightest .so with that be careful what you wish for, loads wanted rid of or slated Hakim ,look what was lost when he went ,last season we got rave reviews for our unpredictability, the flair, the off the cuff plays ,90%of which came from Hakim or Jarrod , if you want robotic players and style then hey slate him all you want but fact is on his day and at his best he's a mile above anyone else in the halves, sorry I know some have the hometown loyalty to certain players but it's just fact.

  14. Look up dedication in the dictionary and you'll find this picture. Travelling 3 hours coast to coast in the pouring rain to watch your team play a more than meaningless match. I applaud every single one of them

  15. Very positive for the sport and Wakefield trinity. A businessman and owner willing to invest in a club and strengthen it will only be good for the sport and competition. It sounds like he’s wanting to do a Leigh centurions and run a successful full time outfit in the championship and improve other areas while building a winning culture. Lets see which players come in and all that’s left is the Wakefield fans to back the new regime and turn up in numbers.

  16. Paul Sykes!!! ... another year or what?? I think he is the best tackler in the game and whilst his pace is not what it was his game management and understanding could still be a great asset ... What do you all think? For me I would like to see him another season, maybe playing loose forward... like they used to do in the good old days!!

  17. Last season how good was he. We should be thankful we had chance to watch him. A one off which the game needs.

  18. Well I enjoyed the game, thought the players put on a fantastic show. Ref, who cares, they have a job to do like most other people do, most people don't have a camera team watching their every move. If they did they would probably realise how really $h!t at their own job they are compared to refs.

  19. Toulouse put out a stronger team this week than they did last week against Fev! They brought 2 of their best players back from injury today, Ralph and Ashall-Bott, Swinton & Keighley should be thrilled that they put out a team strong enough to get the win and give them a chance. Most of the missing Toulouse players today have been missing for weeks bar Shorrocks who got a nasty injury last week.

  20. So glad Haven lost today for our sake but really do hope they stay up. Come on Fax and London! It just goes to show how vital that win at Haven was a few weeks ago, a draw would have had us sweating again tomorrow!

  21. That is exactly why RFL attract the reputation of being a tin pot out fit. What other professional sport would allow such a farcical situation. No club that is unable to provide a playing area which meets the laws of the game should be allowed in the competition END OF !!!

  22. I seem to have forgotten to enter my own competition this week!

  23. To be fair, 'Super League' is the title of the thread. I don't think you can blame someone for focusing on Super League in a conversation about Super League.

  24. And the fact that it has a pitch which does not meet the laws of the game is irrelevant

  25. That's actually quite tough to watch and take in really, 16 years of pure joy and brilliance from the most likeable person involved in Rugby League in this country - A true meaning of the word Legend. Thank You for all the memories Jerry.

  26. How do you know we haven’t signed players? The club have done well keeping quiet this time, moxon might have signed a new team

  27. In '17 at Salford a Leigh player got sent to the sin bin and then got 4 matches, his crime was he touched the ref's forearm to remonstrate a decision, now please describe to me why without there being any rule changes why French should be let off for putting his hand on the refs shoulder to do the same?
    3 points
  28. And my attitude remains the same: somewhere along the way, there has been a failure if you're resorting to giving a premium event away for free.

  29. If French has done as Lam had done it would have been even clearer. The defender should never be punished for trying to evade an obstructing runner. In any case, we would clearly have won from there had it been given. Leigh didn’t have a play the ball in our half after then. Leigh were brave and gave us a terrific match. They should be very proud of themselves. I hope they don’t wallow in self pity, and drown in bitterness, as they still have a lot to play for next week end.

  31. There were 12 players that played Origin this season in that PMXIII side, most of the PNG full-strength side weren't involved either. Some result all things considered.

  33. The reason Lam didn’t do the interview was because Sky asked him to wait around until the very end after Wigan had received the trophy which is not normally the case, Lam had told them he wants to get into the changing rooms to the team and wanted to pre record it like normal.

  34. It’s massively different according to the rules, the Wigan player hit the outside shoulder impeding the defender, the leigh player hit the inside shoulder which caused a bad defensive read.

  35. Speaking of which I saw someone today in a hospital reception area today in Leeds wearing a New York rugby league jersey. It was a really good kit design and I so wish the transatlantic expansion had continued and thrived.

  36. 5,600 at Huddersfield, above average, certainly not shocking unless you're counting the empty seats instead?

  37. I’ve watched it now, no different to the field ‘no try’. they were both trys IMO

  39. Sad to disappoint you but it is true , I managed to get my mobile number to the former player who at their request will remain unnamed . They forwarded me the text which I have read , they also confirmed both they and several others were released this way . I very much doubt all 12 were released this way but would 12 phone calls really have been so hard in this era of rugby league cares and mental health etc . I'm not saying that I think most of the 12 should have been retained , I have issues with the way Fordy has handled it .I offered to have my HR speak with the former player but he said he was OK and had a HR at his main employer anyway. So for the other posters it isn't BS I don't have an agenda apart from wanting Oldham to succeed but for any who believe I have some different agenda I quite frankly don't care . Yes I have the right to an opinion as do you ,maybe as a Sam Burgess fan the glasses I wear aren't as rose tinted when it comes to Fordy , yes I think he has done a lot of good for Oldham and I have praised him for this , but I will not ignore when I think he has got things wrong . The text is not nasty but I am reluctant to post it just in case there are subtle differences in each text which could identify the player , my issue is you DO NOT treat people this way .

  40. I think it's been close with plenty of twists and turns but I do think the quality of the top teams has been way off. When Wigan were having a bad patch earlier this season I'd have never said we'd finish top. Saints and Catalans have had bad spells and games too. That is before the rest and the less said about the bottom couple of teams the better. I do think Leigh have been the bright spot and we have had some great attendances. Some really close and exciting games too with some crackers on TV.

  41. Best season for years. Quality of the rugby has been brilliant and we've seen some amazing games this year. The fact that no one has a clue who can win it heading into the playoffs says it all

  42. Right. Who's Volunteering to watch it back and count how many interchanges Wigan used?

  43. Thinking more about the process, it isn't necessarily the element of the ref giving his decision, it's the part that follows. If the ref says 'no try' there appears to be a far higher bar for the ref to overrule that decision versus the other way round. When a decision is close (which by the nature of the VR, they should be close) then it makes it difficult for the VR to overrule. The VR last night was weird, the way he kept repeating 'on field decision of no try' over and over again was just odd and showed that that element was a huge factor.

  44. Which is why I was a bit surprised they did it - it didn't really shift the crowd into where it wouldn't have gone anywhere but it did create a conversation around freebies, cheapness etc. at the end of what has been an amazingly good season for the NRL.

  45. Its a popular place for high end expedition cruises from Australia. Lots of history, culture, wildlife and cruise ships avoid the need to stay in the cities. Not sure how much of the money made on these ends up in PNG though. Probably not much.

  46. Big day is here for the Warriors. They’ve got a test ahead of them. I would love to see them win it, but I don’t think they have the strength to beat the Panthers, so I would prefer the Broncos to win, because they’re the only team I see potentially knocking Penrith off.

  47. What has a dodgy call got to do with it? They happen all the time, all he had to say if he didn’t want to answer it is say im not going to go into it at this point, not sure why the ceo should be stepping in to stop an interview.

  48. I reckon you’ll win on Saturday and win comfortably, then you’ve got to wait then until Sunday for the other results to come in,if I’m honest I can’t see Halifax losing at home to Swinton. No matter what happens though you’ve had another good season with the squad you had, only bringing in Luke Hooley when needed. You got the chance to see your team run out at Wembley Stadium, not many fans from other clubs can say that. See you all next season, well that’s if you don’t sneak into the playoffs and win it beating Fev in the final
