When It comes to sports films, Bruce Beresford's "The Club" is definitely worth catching. There are some in rugby league who I suspect have used this as their bible when it comes to pointless egotistical infighting.

That's one I've watched a few times.

Just to throw in a few more that I don't think have been mentioned.

The Vanishing (the original French-Belgian one, not the awful remake).

Silent Running

Monty Python and the Holy Grail (always found it funnier than Life of Brian).

One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest

Would second / third a lot that have already been mentioned.

Haha, good call!

I've watched that many times. Or have I...? ;)

We did a lads holiday in Crete and on the way home that was the movie. This was back when you didn't get headphones just everyone on the plane watched the same film. I probably watched the first couple of minutes and then fell asleep absolutely knackered. Then for the next 2hrs every time the alarm went off in the film it woke me up I watched the same two minutes then fell asleep. I still get chills when I see that film on now and I've never been able to watch it properly since.

no... that wasn't me crying at the end... honest!!!

Silent Running is a little offbeat, but very wonderful. I don't think Bruce Dern has ever been better on screen.

The killing fields, along the lines of schindlers list but set in cambodia, uplifting end- maybe it's just me.

The four lions, may not be pc enough for some

Caught by a feckin speed camera. try these I did and it saved me a heap o money and penalty points.

Four Lions is a really, really black comedy. I can see why it is a bit close to the bone for some, but I enjoyed it.

For me in no particular order:

12 Angry Men

Kes - Brian Glover as Bobby Charlton is simply fantastic and the reaction of the lad who gets sent off reminded me of some school mates back in the 70's

Glengarry Glen Ross

The French Connection

Downfall

Brassed Off - worth waiting for Pete Postlethwaites speech at the end especially if you went through the Miners strike

Elf

Toy Story

Back to the Future 1

One of my favourite films is Grosse Point Blank.

Very dated in some ways but still makes me laugh.

Another one I have watched again and again - and find myself quoting all the time.

Local hero

I got a triple-pack of Bill Forsyth DVDs a while ago - Local Hero, Gregory's Girl & (the rather lesser-known) Comfort and Joy. A great purchase!
