I understand the reasons, but I felt that it really watered down the Men's final, and in many of the emails Leeds and St Helens were the first mentioned teams. So whilst supportive of the women's game, I thought it got undue prominence in much of the promotion, and then got staged in a graveyard slot that meant nobody watched it. It's a weird positioning. It's a confused approach I agree. I don't know what they can do about it.

It's because it shouldn't be there - double (and triple) headers like this don't add value, they dilute it. We now have a self inflicted problem because the women's final now has to be at Wembley but as long as it's there it will be played in front a small crowd at a weird time. And because of that, the game will be stuck with the women's side of things being at the 'just happy to be here', can't develop an independent audience stage. Meanwhile, in Oz, women's Origin is being played in front of 20,000+. 8 Build a man a fire, and he'll be warm for a day. Set a man on fire, and he'll be warm for the rest of his life. We've talked ourselves into tagging it onto Wembley, when I think it could have been prestigious and built it's own history rather than being a freebie add-on. But, if there is an easy option, that's what we'll take. It's why we keep getting poor outcomes. It is so frustrating because RL was slightly ahead of union and cricket in terms of women's participation and game visibility and then it just ... listened to the kind of idiots who were always going to devalue it and see no route to its success other than bolting it on. Meanwhile, in Oz, women's Origin is being played in front of 20,000+. But the womens grand final is part of a triple header with the Qrl-NSW final and NRL final. However the NrL final is the pinnacle game with others part of the days build up. There are far less than 20,000 watching the womens final. Also doing it that way probably means you need a later kick off for the challenge cup final. Not sure that would be acceptable to the BBC, or to many of the fans travelling down from the north. There are direct trains running continually from central station and from western suburbs for several hours before and after the game. These are free for all fans. Just more NSW excuses. Direct trains to Central Station is about as useful as one chopstick. That’s only one of the two public transport trips for almost everyone and in most cases, it’s the shorter one. Anita Bath
Sydney doesnt have a stadium in the CBD so by the same criteria any game will involve two chopsticks. 46000 appear to have coped with two chopsticks yesterday…and on a public holiday when public transport is less frequent. I do think sometimes the Catalans stuff comes across poorly, but I'll give benefit of the doubt that there are some translation challenges and the language differences make it clumsy. This should have been presented as Leigh selling out all of their away allocation, and a plea to the Catalans fans to fill their seats to avoid the Leigh fans taking over their ground. Unfortunately it comes across as a bit small time, and if it was Beaumont saying this there would be a lot of criticism of it being amateur. Well done Leigh fans, should be a great atmosphere. phiggins
Will be travelling to Perpignan tomorrow, and very much looking forward to it. Loved it last year, and agree with McNamara's point last year, where it is such a good trip that you're not that fussed by a defeat. On topic of attendances and this week, had Catalans away been ina few months time, I would likely have gone to Wembley as a neutral. I wonder how many others are in a similar boat?
