  1. There won't be a next time for you. You're banned. You were warned in the previous Championship thread that was locked because of your behaviour and you have paid absolutely no attention to that. We will not tolerate it any further.

  3. I've just read the short article on the Home page featuring Victor Radley's comments about Mikey Lewis's contribution during the game and also about his experience of spending time with him. I have to say that his comments brought me to tears, (as did Mikey's own tearful comments about his recent experiences when awarded the man of the match award on television). I am so proud of our game and its players and quite apart from the quality of the performance of our best and fairest on the field, the two instances mentioned above, serve as fine examples of why I'm so proud. Our game, even at this level, seems to provide our young people with the opportunity to grow and to become all that they can be, without the tendency to lose touch with their beginnings, or to fall into shallow self-aggrandisement or the blind pursuit of financial prosperity. Despite all those temptations, both Radley and Mikey Lewis chose (because it's most important to them) to remind us of the value of family and of friendship and of respect for one another. Good people, playing a great game.

  4. My son is just back from the meeting announced last week, quick headlines. They need 100-120k to commit to season, currently have about half Looking to sell memberships, possibly tiered, where member commit to paying 10, 20, 30 quid a month or something like that. Possibly moving to Northumbria university coach lane facilities

  5. It would be our training and playing base but the main emphasis on tonight was getting an idea on what fans thought, was this an idea we can get behind. Keith Christie was very clear, a very small group of people have had ten days to pull something together, it won't be perfect and we can talk about other stuff like facilities but none of that matters if we don't have money to go forward. My view stands that we have a group of people who care and are working hard behind the scenes to try and keep rugby league alive in the region. No big bold claims tonight, just people wanting a sustainable rugby league club. Those present seemed comfortable with that.

  6. Bit of a strange one if he genuinely wasn't offered a contract (rather than just being asked to take a pay cut). He'll rank as one of our best signings in the last 10 years, and as he'll be 33 in January there's little doubt that he has played the best rugby of his career at Fev, and obviously been a real fans' favourite during that time. Good luck to him in the future, he's been a fine player for us and fun to watch.

  7. Yeah, I checked on those two as well. After a phone call it seems they were taken up by someone from Bedfordshire and a ‘Claire’ from Bath.

  9. Back on topic for me, I hope. Tomorrow's meeting is specifically to decide what should happen in 2024, not any hypothetical discussions of future structures. The latter is certainly in the interests of the game but simply cannot be introduced or imposed for 2024. Some may regard this as a quick fix, I see it as pragmatism: if you can't sole the short-term problem there may not be a long-term for some clubs.

  10. Unlike a few European development teams the Dutch have not gone down the whole "lets get an Aussie based heritage team" path as such but if they have guys that are willing to fly half way around the world, at their own expense and stay for a month and put their hands up to help develop the game well good on em. Even back in 2006 Aaron de Jager was a heritage player who came over and raised standards and is still remembered today. Let's not forget England have used heritage players and let's not even talk about the Aussies looking at PI players backgrounds. These young guys are proud to pull on the "Oranje" shirt and if it helps to raise standards well "fair dinkum" But let's be typical of RL and look for negative points instead of celebrating how these small nations are growing the game and "doing the hard yards".

  14. If I had a quid every time I heard the phrase "they'll come back to haunt us" when a player moved on, I'd be rich. If I had a quid every time you could legitimately say an ex player had actually come back to haunt us, I wouldn't.

  15. I agree, we do need to freshen things up after recent failures but this guy could change a game in an instant, with his aggressive/determined running. I'll miss watching him and I hope none of our close rivals pick him up, could come back to haunt us

  17. Tbf that isn’t true you signed one of our players so I was just trying to give info on that player for you, Oldham won’t worry teams like fev or wakey for a while yet or if ever tbh, so on my part it was info on the player as for the wakey fan no idea lol.

  18. Huddersfield has a decent record for international crowds tbh, obviously the scheduling of a game in Leeds the week later should reduce it, but I expect it to beat the Saints number. If it doesn't, I agree, it's a terrible crowd.

  19. It’s a difficult one I think we need to accept as fans there is a big rebuilding job required and we are going to have to accept that players who we love to watch are going to go, we just need to stick with it and trust that things will get better.

  21. It’s a family business, majority owned by his parents with no other investors and no debt. He’s clearly the succession plan there. He’s been running their online operations, which is the growth engine. They made £20m profit last year alone, so can more than afford whatever is required to take Wakey into the Top 6. I know some will hate this, but this is a good sign of rugby league’s new, more medium-term structure attracting a higher quality investor into the sport. Our sport needs owner subsidies right now, so this is something to celebrate.

  22. Now I'm over the initial shock of the JD saga Can anyone remember when Fev had a mass clear out at the beginning of DP's stint. Got rid of the likes of Haughey/Handforth etc and the fans went mad Then we brought in a player called Liam Finn and like usual he was written off before he even kicked a ball. The rest is history, sometimes a mass change can be a positive

  23. They need to decide 2025 now also. Clubs need to start the season knowing what they are playing for. If finishing places in 2024 will have no relevance to what happens in 2025 clubs may as well slash their playing budgets now.

  24. Isn’t this great to see. For years Oldham have been an irrelevance. All of a sudden we’ve now got opposition fans feeling the need to get involved. That tells me they feel we are finally becoming relevant again. Long may it continue.

  25. Super League clubs "earn all the money" but without the foundations of the sport, the Super league clubs would not exist in the form they do. We need as many people playing the sport as possible, at every age level and at a variety of levels. 12 pro clubs and the rest amateur won't work. Spread the money out enough to keep clubs sustainable at this difficult time, and the game as a whole will benefit in the future. Short term thinking will fill your budget this year, long term thinking will pay it for decades to come. I actually think the pro clubs should take a steadily smaller share from central funding to allow more money to be spent on development officers, and perhaps even pro level academies in areas where clubs don't operate them.

  26. Would that view of the best for the game as a whole coincidentally be what is best for League 1 and therefore Oldham? Is that the same as when Championship fans (and chairmen?) say that they want what is best for the game, which coincidentally is what is best for the Championship clubs? No one actually says what is best for the game. Just that we should do what is best for the game. But what is that. And does anyone ever suggest anything that doesn't coincidentally benefit their own club?

  27. In some good news the 2nd and 3rd tests will now be broadcast in NZ, despite the unfortunate time difference I saw plenty of backlash on social media about the failure to show the game on the weekend.

  29. Hang On - Where Does CHARITY come into it Firstly if your on more than 15k CF and you all have no money - there are 8 teams worse off than the lot of you. SL Fans continually state on here "we should have all the money because SL get it from being on Sky " not the other teams, because none of them are on Sky. Therefore if that;s the case ALL THE NONE SL CLUBS SHOULD BE ON NO CF OR THE SAME CF. IF L1 can only have 15k for not being on Sky why do champ get more?? But saying that- none of the L1 teams have asked for any of your money, all we want is to be treat the same as the other None SL teams in a decent league set up - not in the AWFUL unwanted L1 The only one on here that basically asked for money was the Fev supporter who said "we need a sweetener to travel to Cornwall" Money corrupts and it is quite evident on here Pre Sky money the game was better. We had great teams etc Wigan, Widnes etc and we had bad teams and we had a good league set up 2 x 16 and a CC , Regal trophy, Lancs and Yorks cups. But all teams were treat equally - most teams could compete with each other - far less blow out scores than today. To my knowledge the only money you got was Cup prize monies I THINK ITS A DISGRACE FOR A FELLOW SUPPORTER TO CLAIM L1 ARE ASKING FOR CHARITY

  30. Of course it will survive, especially if all clubs are funded equally. But with a preferential funding to certain clubs then the competition will not be competitive

  31. RFL accused of trying to ‘cajole’ smaller clubs over Super League reform vote | RFL | The Guardian If I recall it correctly, Doncaster, Rochdale, Swinton and Oldham were all amongst those clubs that were "cajoled" and voted in favour of changing the funding structure. Which gave Lenagan and SL, the majority they needed to effectively kill the lower divisions. At the time, anyone with half an ounce of common sense knew this was the beginning of the end for the lower divisions. Now, some of the clubs that voted with self interest, are requesting other clubs should not do what they did, and pull together and help to fix the mess they allowed to happen?!?! Sadly, the Championship as it is, won't survive for many more years, regardless of whether they merge with L1. If they decide to merge, it will just speed up the process.

  32. This is where it becomes self-fulfilling. If it is certain to be a good event people are prepared to bring friends - and don't if they are not sure that it will be.

  34. On Lewis, until this season I thought he was a touch more mouth than substance. I was wrong, he is a very good all-round player and is a threat every time with ball in hand. The sort of player we all enjoy watching.

  37. All on TV. It’s a long way from Hastings to anywhere so, for personal reasons, the chances of me getting to a game north of (say) Milton Keynes is essentially zero. (And even if it were there then there’s no guarantee. Such is life.)

  38. What, like Newcastle? If I remember rightly even Salford and Widnes were elevated, at one time, without winning promotion! As I've previously said, there is some advantage to us remaining in a trimmed down 3rd tier and that is we have a greater chance of winning some silverware. Also a chance to 'bond' the squad. Ready for, what will hopefully be promotion in the championship.

  39. That's your opinion, but not mine. Having attended most of the internationals held in the UK in the late 1980s until the mid 1990s, I have to say your attention must have been elsewhere. The pre-match sledging from the Australians, the constant criticism of match officials, the century -old sporting rivalry all helped provide the media with sporting headline material that raised the awareness of the game nationally and helping deliver match attendances that did the games proud.

  41. Id start with a merger between Halifax and Keighley. 2 small town teams who im sure if they worked really really hard together could become a solid mid table championship side, with a view to pushing for the playoffs after a few years.
