  1. Let's collectively crack open a beer, sit back and enjoy it all over again

  2. Thought your no.13 and Full back were excellent. Thought the early kicks were a good tactic to gain field position but weren't quite executed quite right. A very decent showing though and hope you give Keighley as good a game next week.

  3. There's been loads of stuff already, here and on social media, but I think this deserves a separate header. I think it would be nice/interesting to know people's individual experiences /memories/feelings from the night. Sometimes, things are just so big that the only way to deal with them is to keep talking about them. Friday was one such time. Watching on TV from afar, I cried at the start and at the finish (that "My Way" bit at the end - wow!) and can't stop going back and watching again. There's special and there's beyond-words-special. Congratulations to five groups: 1. The RL "family" rises to these moments like no other. Unbelievable. RL gets some things wrong, but when it's like this, there's no other sport like it. 2. Leeds. Club, players/staff, fans, the singing, the crying, the songs, the banners, the grass paint 7, the special shirts, too much to name, etc. At every moment from big to small, it was sublime. Everything seemed to just be right. (I normally get angry about spelling mistakes, but tonight it seemed right to not worry about that one mishap.) 3. Sky. Credit where due, they did this proud. 4. And then there's Leigh. Full disclosure, I support Leigh. However, they were just the right team for the night (not least given RB's first game story). In a funny way, it was probably right that they lost - and in a "good" way with a rally at the end. But the club (DB, etc) deserve huge credit for the way they embraced the occasion - the statement beforehand, the banners, the fans' respect, Lindsey and kids with the ball at the end, the guard of honour, Lammy's perfectly judged post-match comments, etc, etc. (Without saying other clubs might not have done as well) Leigh were a truly class act tonight and I suspect that they will have become a "second favourite team" for some people watching. 5. And the Burrow family, of course, but words can't really express what needs to be expressed about their grace and bravery. Those images of Lindsey on the field at the end..... At times like these, we should be thankful that we are part of the RL tribe and especially thankful that we saw something like that that has just happened. Dare to dream.

  4. It certainly looked that way. After that superb third try of ours we should have kicked on from there. Instead of throwing the ball like you did after that we reverted to one man in while the other twelve sat back and watched. Any way well done. Well coached team.

  6. Thought our new prop had a really good game, well done him we are clueless in attack, it's a real shame because I thought we did very well today. Looks like we've picked more injuries up sadly. Thankfully their kicker was pants.....

  8. You could see he never lined it up. From the rules: It shall be misconduct for a player to pretend to kick at goal at goal from a penalty kick and then deliberately kick it elsewhere. Such misconduct shall incur a penalty. Once having informed the Referee of their intention to kick at goal from a penalty award the kicker shall not do otherwise.

  9. As already posted the current (Post Bosman) system is killing lower league rugby. There is literally no advantage to developing players or finding the odd nugget in the one year contract era. The bigger spending clubs just come and take them, nearly always without a fee, and then frequently don't even play them. We have suffered from this for years, right back to when Ned took half the team with him to Widnes. Thats bad enough, but the fact that the RL allow teams to do it half way through the season is nothing short of laughable....(if only it was funny!!!) Add this to IMG and I can't think that there is any future for clubs like ours and if we go that will be it for me and RL ...

  11. Pryce was "rested" this week from NSW Cup - all but insinuating that he will make his NRL debut in Round 17. Has really struggled for consistency in NSW Cup but his last three are as close as he has gone to stringing 3 decent games together. Jack Cogger had an irredeemably bad game last week to the extent that we're in the situation of 'how much worse could Pryce really be?'. Really struggles defending in the front line at NSW Cup level so the step up to NRL will be tough but hopefully he'll be protected by stronger defenders either side of him. Offensively he's very much brought the rocks and diamonds that we routinely saw in England, sometimes he can have sublime touches all day, other times he just overplays his hand way too much and ends up in the way - often you get both versions in the same game. Suspect O'Brien is at the end of his tether with Cogger so we might see Pryce in the 6 jersey until Tyson Gamble returns from injury sometime around round 22-23, good opportunity for him and I suspect he's the type of person that will really give his all once at the top level as opposed to bringing week-to-week consistency as reserve-grade level.

  13. Hey Been a few years off this forum. A Fev fan from Christchurch, New Zealand. I thought all the Brendon Tuuta fans would like to watch this. This game was in 1993. Provincial final, Canterbury v Auckland. A full 2 years before the Auckland Warriors entered the NRL/ARL. Context: for the final, Auckland brought in all their British stars for this game. Canterbury just had Tuuta as our British star. So...Tuuta opposing Tawera Nikau! Awesome! Tuuta has an absolute storming game. Canterbury thrashes Auckland. This game was thought long lost, so its a real amazing thing to have been found and archived. Also the "Point of Difference" subscription above is a treasure trove of history & interviews with former players. Anyway, enjoy the mighty Tuuta performance. Cheers! Daryn Ps - hope oldrover still around to see this!

  14. Remarkable even beat Salford/Saints attendance in SL today (5,700). I remember the days in the Championship 1996/97 when we were averaging about 1,500 how times have changed. Some positivity at least!!

  16. Fancied Salford as soon as I saw it was a hot day. Hurrell and Bennison are the Chuckle Brothers and Salford's ability to move the ball laterally with purpose is exactly what you need to hurt Saints.

  18. 100% last tackle options are atrocious, no direction from either half, on positive note, defence much improved until last 20 when we tired a bit. thought Galea at Fullback was mom by a mile, his best game for Town for mine

  19. Good effort but the biggest thing for me is now attack, kicking game poor also, town don't no how to build pressure then execute, but the lads did the best they could.

  21. Not bad for a team that brings nothing to Super League, apparently and doesn’t have ‘minerals’. Where is Wilkin, by the way?

  22. Speaking of impressive stats in the second tier, Riley Dean has 12 linebeak assists (joint best in league) and 15 try assists (3rd in league) for the Cutters in Queensland Cup this year.

  26. I don't think it is shameful, I just think it's a unique position native English speakers are in. Let's be real here to speak any language other than English, for most native English speakers, means you have to speak a foreign language better than the person you are communicating with can speak English. Nearly the whole world now learns English as a second language (even Russia who tried to implement Russian as the lingua franca across the USSR and Eastern Bloc). As English speakers what do we learn as a second language? French - most common but frankly rarely used as even anecdotal evidence will demonstrate how in France they'll speak English back to you with a rather tired expression. Unless you're planning on going to Haiti or West Africa it's not very helpful either and even then unless you have an ear for a creole you'll struggle. Spanish - possibly the most helpful 2nd language, but has a very "American" focus with obviously lots of Latin America. In the hubs of international tourism of Spain and Mexico, English is more widely used. German - Great in Germany and Austria, pretty naff all use anywhere else. Likewise Italian in Italy or Greek in Greece or Polish in Poland. They can help with learning other Germanic, Romance, or Slavic languages but again they are other languages not just different flavours. That's before we get onto Hungarian or Latvian! Arabic, Persian/Farsi, the various Indian subcontinent Languages, even Japanese and most insanely Mandarin - all have lots of potentially enormous uses. A knowledge of many help you not get scammed in some countries for sure! However this brings us back to the original point, English, in all sorts of accents and levels of broken speech, is the lingua franca of the world. Between anyone of different nationalities, save some historically multi linguistic regions, it's almost expected to be the common language of communication. Being a native English speaker just means everyone wants to communicate how you already do. (Outside of France) I've always found people do genuinely appreciate it when you try with their language, so we should never stop trying or use our ability in English as an excuse to not learn anything else.

  27. Neil Fox is a big omission from the statue. He was the record points scorer in a Wembley Final (2 try’s & 7 goals) for many years until a one sided mismatch allowed someone to pip his points tally. He's graced the Wembley field a number of times for both Wakefield Trinity and Great Britain and always scored heavily and played well, winning the Lance Todd Trophy in 62 . Of course he’s the brother of the great Don Fox who arguably has the most iconic Rugby League drama at Wembley if not ever. Then there’s the fact that Neil is the World Record point scorer of all time, a total that will never be surpassed and which was achieved during the 3pt try era.

  28. We must be mentally weak 12 points in front of Swinton who are playing uphill and we lose .At one point 16-0 up against York and we get well beat.I was nowhere near this level Probably Nat Con !/2 but i led the pack.Better players than me but i never stopped talking to my team mates .Reading the game and acting accordingly. If a player on the other side was a danger me and my team mates closed him down. You can't win them all but you can play to your maximum whatever the opposition.

  36. Complete and utter shambles, after the first 15 mins. No structure,.drive it down the middle, when it was crying our for expansive rugby. 4 on the trot , cannot see a way back with Ford in charge. On a day like today with 2 half backs we should have used the backs a lot more . Totally disgusted.

  39. Thought I'd revisit this thread. Not a clue on attack, no structure, no plan, one man rugby. Was Applegarth right? Dull as hell game plan and doesn't work. Based on the tries we did score, the players do have the ability to spread it about a bit and challenge defenses so why aren't we?
