I can still buy single tickets on the website

Now then, it's a race between Sandie....and Fairburn....and the little man is in........yeees he's in.

I, just like those Castleford supporters felt that the ball should have gone to David Plange but he put the bit betwen his teeth...and it was a try

Kevin Ward - best player I have ever seen

The real Mick Gledhill is what you see on here, a Bradford fan ........, but deep down knows that Bradford are just not good enough to challenge the likes of Leeds & St Helens.

So a record crowd here, a record crowd at Magic, couple of full grounds in the WCS, great challeng cup final crowd - now all we need are 4 sellouts for the Kiwi tour.

Were any of those games any good though? Not really, were they? 2 of them were blowouts for a start. So isn't it a classic case of preaching to the converted? It's 1 thing still selling these games out in the short term but the poor product as a result of the new system won't attract any new fans. That should be worrying you, shouldn't it?

By contrast, how many new fans of the sport do you think Sunday's NRL GF will generate Down Under?

Yeah if only we did a deal where they played the game then asked people to buy tickets if it was a classic - back in your box son

Just to please the doom mongers; the GF never sells out because there are always 1167 seats left empty for the big screen.

Why do you keep asking questions and then encouraging a negative answer? I'm convinced that you want the game in this country to simply fizzle out and die. Have you ever written anything resembling a positive post?

I'm pretty sure I've seen some kind words (just one or two, mind) regarding those Australian chaps in that other competition......forgive me, the name of it escapes me.......

Only DSK can turn a post about SL getting record crowds and turn it into a doom mongering post.

How can you cmoment on whether any of the magic weekend games were any good when you refuse to watch SL?

I agree Talk Sport, their coverage of Rugby League over the years has been abysmal. They only presenter who regularly mentions Rugby League is Adrian Durham who I believe got to know the game whilst a student in Hull. Talk Sport has basically decided to endorse Rugby Union and ignore Rugby League.

H & J have a regular feature on a monday, and they also have regular reports from "rugbyleague man" and Martin Kelner usually discussed the TV games on a friday,

But yeah Durham is usually quite enthusiastic about it, until he gets a shout in his ear to discuss the top 4 clubs in the bar-cl-ayssss premier league

I wonder how you can link the new system to how Rovers were beaten 84-6 a few years back to stop you watching SL...

Everything you would expect from a wannabe Australian, basically.

I can confirm 30+ less sales for Scotland vs Italy at Workington, after this afternoons test purchase for the Tonga match, £7.50 is extremely reasonable, however a £2.50 'delivery' fee for a walk in purchase is beyond taking the mickey, good luck with that, it's cheaper on the telly.

Did someone mention League Freak? ;)

Ha!

The idea that I want to see RL in this country fail is the biggest misconception on this forum.

There is surely a valid point here though. The SL system we currently have is designed to be a small group of 3 or 4 strong clubs and a bunch of much smaller traditional clubs, which means that (as history has proven) the GF is always between 2 of said strong clubs, who by definition of being strong have good fanbases so the GF sells out. This shouldn't necessarily be seen as any great success as within these crowds there are likely to very few new fans (apart from younger fans of said teams) and certainly no widening of the game's reach.

The larger UK sporting public were not overly impressed by a Leeds vs Wigan vs Saints vs Bradford GF in 1998 so are not likely to be in 2015 and nor in 2032. Whether this kind of "success" can even be maintained is for me very much open to debate as it would not be immune to the shrinking tide of SL in general that I think the new system inflicts upon us.

Someone said that the Cowboys' GF success won't generate any new fans in Oz. Really? A 20 year-old expansion team with its first ever title? That's not only great for them but for fans of the smaller sides (Panthers, Sharks, Tigers and Titans I would say off-the-cuff) who will be more likely to sign up and stay engaged as they see that the big prize isn't limited to the best-supported big boys (as of course the last 15 years of GFs shows anyway). It will also surely act as a "gee up" to RL fans in potential new expansion areas to drum up support for bids for their own teams.

As ever, the 2 leagues are apples and pears and time will tell which system delivers the biggest fan growth. In the meantime, I know which one I want on my telly.

 How does this work?

Back in 1998 40,000+ turned up for Leeds/Wigan, the event was judged a success and has continued to get bigger just about every year since.

In 2015 we've a sold out Grand Final between the the same teams with the demand approximately twice as high as it was for the initial event.

I'd say the larger UK sporting public are pretty impressed.

well that's great, but not really relevant to this thread.

What you fail to understand, or rather, refuse to understand is that the NRL is not in competition with the Super League (other than in the WCS). They are not competing for the same fanbase. Warrington fans are not going to be put off going to the Halliwell Jones Stadium because there may be a higher standard game being played in Brisbane.

We are competing with attractions far closer to home.

This grand final has the potential to be the best ever in front of a massive crowd regardless of the sport. It will be one of the ten most attended sports games in the world this weekend. I grew up watching the game in the 1980s when 30000 was a huge crowd. That's progress in anyone's book.

to be fair in the 80's we'd get 80k at wembley

4 of the 80s crowds were in the 90ks the best being 99,801 the lowest (not counting 89 when capacity was reduced) was 80,116.
