Well that came out of the blue...

Not.

Surely the only way this is not a pre-planned stich-up is if the job is so carp, and the prospects so dire, that no-one else in their right mind would take it on?

Never mind, after a few years of screwing it all up, and if there IS any RFL left by then, he can collect HIS £300k pay-off on the way out to some international junket sincecure.

ps. Lost any remaining hope now.

The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, and wise people so full of doubts.

Bury your memories; bury your friends. Leave it alone for a year or two.  Till the stories grow hazy, and the legends come true.  Then do it again - some things never end.

unfathomable piece of negligence from the RFL board. 7 months to come up with one of the main influencers of the shambles we have had over the last decade.

Well Barwick and his fellow superstars HAVE been very very busy you know.  It is damned hard work staying invisible all the time you are collecting your salary.

Maybe the actions of the Junta become even more clear now?  Make the announcement, start a war with the RFL and the rest of the game that they know they have the funds to win, and ensure that the RFL CEO job is SUCH a poisoned chalice that only Rimmer would ever want it?

Repeat post from the Sally Bolton Thread, but my view:

Feels like a real lack of appreciation of their perception by the RFL board. Rightly or wrongly, there is a 'jobs for the boys' perception of the RFL and they have now promoted both of the last two CEO's through the same methods. I don't think it is an entirely fair perception as Lewis, Foster, Draper plus others have joined from partly outside of the RFL structures at least.

There is also a negative perception of the RFL overall at the moment, that they have lost the battle with the SL clubs over control, and promoting somebody who as part of the Senior Management Team has been part of that loss of control seems perverse.

It will be interesting to see whether he just goes down the route of continuing Wood's strategy or wants to make his own mark.

Either way, it isn't a very exciting or inspiring appointment.

After what the governing body call a “thorough and robust recruitment process” led by an external and independent recruitment consultancy attracting a field of “exceptional” candidates from inside and outside of the sport.

I am struggling to believe this statement.

I'd imagine this rimmer would be better

Rugby League is a sport that desperately needs to expand its geographical supporter base and its player base. This imperative means that all other requirements are secondary until this is done.

All power in the game should be with governing bodies, especially international governing bodies.

Without these actions we will remain a minor sport internationally and nationally.

Apart from the odd gig with the odd rugby league club and a paper round has he worked anywhere else, can he pull on a wealth of knowledge from other industries or is he just the back of the pantomime super league horse.

Carlsberg don't do Soldiers, but if they did, they would probably be Brits.
