Sir Geoff Hurst

@TheGeoffHurst

Today is a very sad day for football & for me personally Martin Peters was one of the all time greats & a close friend and colleague of mine for in excess of 50 years. A fellow World cup final goalscorer & my West Ham partner for years along with Bobby Moore RIP old friend.

Frank Foster, always loved the story about when he coached at Barrow and the board decided to sack him twice but none of them dare tell him!

Sad to hear that Frank Foster has passed away.

He signed for Oldham from Barrow in January 1972 and although he only played for the club for one and a half seasons he totally transformed the fortunes. At the time of his signing Oldham had that season only won six and drawn one of their 21 league games and were 28th in a one division set-up of 30 teams. However after his arrival they lost just one more out of 13 and that was in the last minute at Warrington and finished in 16th place.  The following season Oldham were top of the league in November and although they eventually finished 9th there has never been anyone who has had the same immediate impact on the club as he did.

One stand out memory ? Well, actually in a "friendly" match. The Great Britain team were due to go to the 1972 World Cup and played a warm-up game against Oldham at Watersheddings. Despite all the best forwards in the country being in the opposing pack, only one forward dominated the entire game - Frank Foster. Oldham actually beat Great Britain that night and with the crowd chanting "Foster for Britain" !

Thank you Frank for all you did.... great memories.

Neil Innes is no longer an urban spaceman.

One of my all time favourite entertainers. A truly awful way to cap off a terrible year.

And when they found our shadows

Grouped around the TV sets

They ran down every lead

They repeated every test

They checked out all the data on their lists

And then the alien anthropologists

Admitted they were still perplexed

But on eliminating every other reason

For our sad demise

They logged the only explanation left

This species has amused itself to death

No tears to cry no feelings left

This species has amused itself to death

Before you even start on The Python stuff, The Bonzos and The Rutles alone are a great legacy.

Very sorry to hear he's passed away.

Technically he is because he doesn't exist.

Hopefully they'll have an equestrian statue in his honour.

Thank you for your valuable contribution.
