Perhaps the very word "museum" needs replacing with something like "festival".

Museums do a definitive job in terms of legacy and recognition of tradition festivals quite another.

There are some really questionable and even idiotic things that have their own museum in a historically important place for the idiocy and the fact that this has not come into being for something that has been a social, traditional and cultural      part of the north in its birth place reflects well on all those involved.

Boris will give us the dosh if we can get him to use it as a part of the mythical levelling up!

Quite remarkably, the George Hotel fiasco was raised at Prime Minister's Questions this lunchtime.

Is was raised about 5 minutes before Boris' partygate statement so will have received plenty of views,I imagine.

Jason McCartney,Conservative Colne Valley MP,berated the Labour dominated Kirklees council about the apparently stalled scheme.

He received a vague reply about referring it to the Department of Sports,Art and Culture.

Back to the drawing board,then.

Well, that's never happened before!

Fears Huddersfield's Rugby League Museum could end up outside of Yorkshire

'The Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS) understands that Wigan, which lost out to Huddersfield in a close-fought bidding battle two years ago, could yet be the winner. Leeds has also expressed an interest.'

Good. The sooner that Huddersfield is written off as the town to host this, the better. The town already has more than enough white elephants.

at least with luck a decision will be made even if its only that its not going to Huddersfield.

then its a simple decision to take it to a city than wants it and can afford it .

no more messing about I'm sure a deal can be done before the end of the year  .

What’s happening with the museum?

Last I heard at the Wigan end was Wigan museum were still interested and looking to house it in the Pier complex, that (refurb) has been delayed for various reasons.

What the museums position is now no idea.

They could put it next to the new soccer museum at the Eagles' new stadium. Ideal.

There is one place, one place only, for this and that is the Etihad campus.

People have heard of it

It's easy to reach by car and by public transport.

Even 0.1% of local footfall would make it a major sucess taking our story to more people than ever.

OK, so the campus is new, modern, forward looking,  popular and crowded, so I can imagine the opposition.

And of course, the RFL itself is already there.

I agree. Manchester is a major city, the home of the Grand Final and the RFL are now based there. There is plenty of scope for drawing people in and attracting school trips etc and tying in with the rest of the Etihad Campus.

Huddersfield while the birthplace of Rugby League doesn't work because few have the inclination to go to Huddersfield just for a RL museum. As much as I hate to say it as a Wiganer the same applies with Wigan. It needs to be in a major city.

And not only that, it's not very far from Oldham, the first home , for 35 years,of the northern rugby football union later RFL. So if it can't be Oldham then the etihad will do for me.

Makes perfect sense a kind of halfway house despite the obvious language barrier!

Makes sense to me. I was going to suggest Manchester because of it hosting the Grand Final (and the likelihood of it also hosting big England RL matches), but I didn't know what location would be best. Etihad Campus sounds like a good choice.

Its a bit out of the way for attracting round the year visitors. National Football Museum has a city centre location with oodles of passing trade. That is whats needed, whether it be Manchester or elsewhere (Leeds maybe) to attract tourists as well as dyed in the wool leaguies.
